Hi all,

As some of you might have seen in the welcome thread, I'm now the proud owner of a Faceift Audi B5 S4 Avant

It's got some history on here, being previously owned by AndyEvo and later by MrBallBag (and turns out for a little while by Stevieyid just before I got it).

It's modifications / specs (to the best of my knowledge) include:

Engine / Cooling / Fuelling
K04 Turbo's (Genuine KKK)
RS4 Lower Intake Pipes
RS4 Intercoolers
Bosch 044 Fuel Pump
MRC ITG Air Filter
Milltek single 3" exhaust and DP's (Decat)
WOT Box
710N Diverter Valves (Audi TT)
RS2 Spark Plugs
Remap to 380bhp (although I've also been told 400bhp).

Drivetrain
RS4 Clutch
MRC Lightweight Flywheel
Shortshifter

Suspension / Handling
BC BR Coilovers
Apikol Rear Diff Mount (Blue Bushing)
3SDM Alloys (18x9.5)
Bridgestone Potenza S001 tyres (225/40R18)
S4 B7 Front Calipers
S4 B7 Front Discs (Grooved 345mm)
EBC Yellowstuff pads
HEL Brake lines

Exterior
RS4 style front grille
Carbon Fibre wing mirrors
Factory Xenons
De-badged
Rear wiper removed
Rear Tints

Interior / Electronics
Electric Black Leather Recaro Seats
Carbon Fibre door inserts
Volt clock replaced with boost gauge
Upgraded sound system with amp / subwoofer

Here is the only picture I've managed to take of it so far, as it's dark when I leave for work, and dark when I come home..

Now for a bit of my background with cars (if anyone is interested).

The reason that I chose an S4 is because a few years ago I went for a ride in a friend of a friends Misano Red RS4 B5 (which was owned by a guy called Sam who I believe was on here). It was a 550ps MRC build and it was the fastest thing I had ever been in - so fast in fact that everything I've been in since has been compared to that as a benchmark.

Since then I've always wanted a smaller-engine turbo charged car. I'd love to own an R32 GTR one day when I have a garage to keep it in.

Prior to the S4 I had a Mazda RX8 PZ, which, despite all their negative press, never let me down once. It did make me considerably poor though, as I struggled to get more than 12mpg out of it around town and was £550 a year in road tax. It also made lots and lots of flames and noise which more than made up for the running costs, it had the best gearbox in it that I've ever used and it's handling was superb

The Mazda is actually up for sale at the moment. I also just sold this, which was my run-around. It's a 1993 Nissan Micra Super S. A guy is coming from Canada to take it off my hands in March.

With regards to the S4, the only issues I've come across so far is that it grinds going into second at high RPM and that the wheels are ridiculous for driving in London.

I knew about the gearbox issue when I bought it and got a decent discount off the asking price to cover it. Steve on here has already sorted me out with a replacement gearbox and I've arranged with CJ to get it fitted at some point in the next month.    (I'm already impressed with the help available on this forum compared to some others I've been on). I'll probably rebuild the one that comes off for future use.

Wheel wise, I would like to fit some BBS CH 18x8 / 8.5 wheels. I Just need to work out what offset will fit (suggestions are welcome).

Once I've changed the oil and sorted the above I'll get it booked into MRC for a health check and RR session to see what power it's actually putting down. The guy I bought it from claims to have spoken to MRC who said it was 'safe mapped' to 400bhp, and that it can be mapped to more - although I am sceptical until I see this for myself (as I have no printouts).

I spoke to MRC briefly before buying the car, who couldn't find anything in their system for the mapping.

I know that this car has been round the forum a bit, so if anyone knows anything to the contrary please do let me know.

Looking forward to getting involved

Cheers,
Calum

Just put them up for sale as I'm not really a fan unfortunately - either looking for some BBS CH's or B5 RS4 style wheels to replace them.

The 3SDM wheels seem to be really popular amongst VW owners.

Thanks

I really like the wing mirrors so I'm afraid not, but thanks for the offer

It's been really well kept - a credit to its previous owner(s).

I looked at this car, but the fella selling said it was spot on and didnít let me know about the 2nd gear problem till the morning of when i set off to see it. Plus i didnít like the rear diff mount. Vibrated right through the body.

Still is a nice car though!

Cheers guys!

Yeah the diff mount is shocking at 70mph. I almost pulled over before I worked out what was causing it. Luckily I do most of my driving around London, so will rarely get to the speeds where it's the worst. Should pay dividends on track though - got a castle combe track day token to use up if anyone here is planning a visit over the coming months?

I knocked the guy down a fair bit to allow for replacing the gearbox, Steve has kindly already sorted me out with one and CJ managed to fit me in fairly soon to swap them over.

Will rebuild the one that comes off with Uprated collars etc for when the replacement eventually gives up as well.

A bit of an update:

Me and my mate made the drive from London up to see CJ on Saturday morning to get the gearbox fitted that Stevieyid supplied. It was all done by lunch time and I drove away a very happy man - no crunching in second! †

CJ kindly gave the car a once over and pointed out a few things that will need attention at some point (namely front driveshafts) - nothing scary though which is a relief.

The good news is that the Turbo's are in very good condition and it does have an RS4 clutch and lightweight flywheel fitted (I only had the invoice for the parts from MRC, but no fitting information to prove it had been done).

I then took a drive up to see Mike (at Ben's turbo unit) to pick up some 18x8.5 BBS CH's - had a bit of a chat then had a nice gentle drive back home.

List of things to get done over the next few weeks:

- Fit BBS wheels (had a trial fit on Sunday and they clear the B7 S4 brakes on the front without spacers) - will be fitting the Bridgestone S001 225/40 tyres that are currently on the car. Just waiting for some centre caps to turn up in the post.

- Height adjust the BC coilovers to fit the new wheels).

- Oil change (just ordered 10L of Fuchs Titan Race Pro S from OpieOils) and a Mann Filter

- Coolant Flush and fit new Febi Coolant tank (old one is mucky, but not the oil contaminated type luckily).

And during the summer:

- Replace the single 3" Milltek with a custom dual 2.5" SS system (with one silencer only)

- Fit a larger diameter brake kit on the rear (it has the backplates for a 300mm kit already, so guessing it's had them at some point in the past).

- Fit an AquaMist water/meth injection kit (already have bosses in the intake pipes for these).

- Go into MRC for a remap and RR session.

- (Probably) get rid of the Apikol diff mount and bushes. I'm hoping the buzzing/massage feeling at 70mph will reduce to a manageable level once the new wheel / tyre setup is fitted, although I suspect this won't be the case.

Pics to follow of wheels and some shots of the car - not had a chance to take many unfortunately.
