i would be really interested to hear other people's thoughts of they have driven/owned both cars.  I have a B5 with RS6 hybrid turbos, Milltek full system and LOBA cams, viper map.  I drove the C7 today and expected to be blown away by its power but felt that my car pulls harder, at least to the point I backed off.  I know the 6 would go on though.

All the reviews I have read of the 6 say it is blisteringly fast, I guess I have just had my baseline recalibrated.  I have ordered the RS6 because there are so many things I love about it, it's a fantastic package.  I guess that I'll live with it for a while then may have to take a trip to MRC...

After owning a ko4'd B5 S4 I was lucky enough to be part of the srs millbrook Audi day and felt that the most complete package of all the cars was the C7 RS6
Wonderful in every way. (apart from the price.... )

How long was your test drive?


I think the more you drive it the more you will explore it's power and learn to exploit it. I know this was true of my C5


I did the same a buzzard at Millbrook but for me this type of car excels in mid range overtaking type moves as this is where the G'box/torque comes into it's own and then maybe you will see things differently.

I would say that my drive was very short, about 30mins, half in traffic.  I think my post came across a bit too negatively.  Having had more time to think about it I believe that Audi has mapped it so smoothly that it is probably just deceptive, I know I was looking at a big number when I eased off.  The sound is so different, my first V8, it's so comfortable, such a nice place to be.   I do also realise that I am in a very enviable position, though I have worked my ass off and risked a lot.  The B5 was always my weekend car, an xc90 my daily driver.  I have 3 kids and found it so practical for the last 4 years that I ordered another. Was due to get  the new model in 2 weeks but amazingly the RS was no more a month so I had a rethink.  Roll on mid August.

With the B5 I started with a standard car and kept wanting 'a little bit more' I got the bug.  You get used to anything.  I can remember saying the words 'I will never need any more power than this' when I got the B5, how wrong I was..

I just think you can't compare a older classic with something new like that. They are chalk and cheese. Completely depends what you are looking for.

You are right, I guess I had just kept gradually improving mine over the years and never really appreciated what I ended up with in terms of numbers.  When you read 0-60 in 3.9 it sounds like a really low number but I guess mine does it at as fast, I have just never measured it properly.  I won't keep the B5 once the new car comes but for every reason I find to love the C7 I know I will miss the RS4, it just has soul.

Of course the latest RS6 and S8 are pretty similar in performance, that wasn't the case when they first appeared together (C5 vs D2).
But a D2 S8 was, and is, a lovely place to be.

Thats it. All these new modern boxes although massively capable in terms of performance and far more comfortable etc are just all the same.

If i had the money id have one as a daily hack without a doubt but they would never excite me like some of the older stuff.

Just checked out price for 2nd hand S8 4. TFSI

45,000 ++++ for something nice with 20/30k miles....
Still way out of my league.
