Depending on if you believe the figures in the Audi tech books the V6 is lighter than the Alumisil alloy V8...

Yes, the US S4 was 250bhp, whereas the european was 261bhp, not sure about the engine code though.

B5 powertrain

The powertrain detail of the B5 S4 features a 2.7 litre twin-turbo ('biturbo') 90 third-generation V6 engine (parts code prefix: 078, identification codes: AGB, AZB). Detail of the powerplant includes a cast iron cylinder block with two lightweight aluminium alloy cylinder heads.

The valvetrain includes 30 valves (five valves per cylinder) twin hybrid-driven (timing belt and chain) double overhead camshafts and variable valve timing for the inlet valves. The charged intake air is cooled with the aid of two side-mounted intercoolers (SMICs).

It displaces 2,671 cubic centimetres (163.0 cu in), and is DIN rated to produce a motive power output of 195 kilowatts (265 PS; 261 bhp), and generates 400 newton metres (295 ftlbf) of torque. Engine management was by way of a Bosch Motronic ME 7.1 (7.0 in North America) engine control unit (ECU), and helped it meet the EU-3D emissions standard. For a short time scale (08/98-12/9 in the North American market, the engine was slightly detuned to meet US emissions regulations, output was reduced to 187 kW (254 PS; 251 bhp) and 258 ftlb (350 Nm) (identification code: APB).

Anyone know the original compression ratio of the RS4 engine or is it the same as standard?

It is 9.0:1. S4 has 9.3:1.

Hi

Can anyone reliably tell me the block deck height, failing that, con-rod length and piston pin to crown dimension?

Regards.

I think because of emissions. USA is much harder on that then europe, however with these VW diesel scandals it wont take much time before new rules are applied.

The VR6 12V in Europe had more output then the USA VR6 12v if i'm not mistaken as well.
