You must be referring to the Audi 100 S4 on the C4 platform. The V8 version was only available in LHD. Was never sold in the UK. 4.2 V8 280bhp, so pretty bulletproof. Nothing specific to warn you about other than all the usual basics on any car of this age.

Is there anything specific you need to know?

Cheers for that buddy, was sure it was RHD so maybe the 2.2 turbo.  Like I said im viewing it some time next week. Basically prices what would I be looking at paying?  And are the 2.2 engines any good either? Mpg? Tuneable?  Sorry to be vague on the car itself but would be my first audi lol. Cheers

4.2 was know as the S4 'Plus'. Definitely only LHD. They are worth more despite this as they were a limited edition run. Came with a 6 speed manual. The only Audi V8 with a manual afaik from the factory. Normally aspirated, so, not much you can do to tune it without major surgery.

The 2.2 20v 5 cylinder is arguably one of Audi's best ever engines. Almost infinitely tuneable depending on how much you want to spend. 230bhp standard but simple exhaust and stage 1 remap and it'll have more power than the V8. Can get 2.2 in auto or 6 speed manual.  2.2 engine very bulletproof if looked after. 5 cylinder has extremely strong 7 main bearing crank and is good for 600bhp plus in standard trim.

Average mpg for 2.2 is in the mid 20's but you can squeeze out more if your gentle. 4.2 is more like late teens average.

After 1994, S4 100 on the facelift changed name to A6/S6 with same engine. Phased out in 1996 for C5 platform of A6's

Good S4's vary from about 3k - 4k for the best. Sub 3k will be high milage and needing some TLC.  Watch specifically for suspension bushes, as fronts in particular are expensive and awkward to change.

Ok that sounds a little more like it. All I have really been told at the minute is its 300bhp (making me think v and around 25 mpg and 30 on long distance 6 speed manual,  Mint condition very well looked after full service history with around 140k miles. So if its as good as it sounds maybe

300bhp is pushing the limit with a standard turbo on that engine. Must have other minor mods apart from a remap to get that. 285 -290 is easily obtained, any more is a struggle without upgrading turbo.

140k miles is nothing for a well maintained one.

s4 also has slightly flared front wings that the standard 100 hasn't. Although galvanised, stones can chip off this over time on the front arches so check for rust in this area. The rest of the car should be fine or its had a bad repair at some pint possibly.

Sounds like you might have a good wee find there!

Good luck, let us know how you get on.

The A8/S8 was also available with a manual, though not in the UK.
