Looked at an A4 a few days ago with a faulty steering sensor (G85?).

Does a new sensor have to be re-calibrated when its fitted?

If it's anything like my VW just turn fully left then right a few time whilst driving slowly I think it was

That might even clear the error without having to fit a new one.

Mine was due to wheel alignment. Once aligned the error went away. Didn't have to reset / recalibrate

Might need to "login" and then calibrate

I've seen this when the rack has been removed and re-fitted.

The Steering wheel was 180 degrees out and no calibration would clear it.
The only solution was to disconnect the steering wheel from the rack & turn 180 before re-fitting

Best to lock the wheel when doing rack or disconnecting.

But usually if it's out by 360, you can check by measured block values. Or remove the steering wheel, and it should be appx. 2.5 turns each way.

Also if you put the angle sensor out by 360, i.e. when doing a rack, then you'll break the sensor next time you use the car, or do lock to lock! Not good!
