Annual service time rolled around again so I made the 500 mile round trip up to Unit20 for a full service and health check. Car has only covered 1000 miles in the last year so wasn't expecting any problems

First surprise for Lee to deal with was a mouse nest under the engine cover! It seems they like sound deadening as they'd had a good go at mine! There was no sign of he little b*stards so they either got out when I started the car or they are somewhere on the side of he M6.....

Thankfully no other damage had been done, and apart from a small boost leak which was easily fixed by tightening a clamp all else was well.

When the Turbo Fairy visited last year i took the opportunity to upgrade to 3" Loba DP's but had not had the original Viper map tweaked to account for them. I had arranged to meet Rich at Unit20 and he remapped the car to match the updated spec. Car now feels great- very, very strong with a quick smooth spool up. Cheers Rich!

All in all a good day, and another thumbs up for Unit20 and Viper Tuning. Great sevice as usual from Grizz, Lee and Rhian, plenty of tea and a top lunch, and i also bought the alcantara wheel Grizz was selling. Will be going back up in a few week for ARB's, B7 brake setup and RS2 droplinks.

Only downer was watching my Fulham put in a dismal performance at Goodison before a 3 hour drive home

Yep, Rich certainly knows his stuff, and the Unit20 guys are top notch.

Never had the car dyno'd so have no idea what sort of power its putting out- butt dyno says its more than fast enough to put my license in danger! I'm going to go for the Wagner SMICS and that'll be the engine done- a nice spec that should still be reasonably reliable and not stretch the engineering too much.

Personally I'm surprised you hadn't lifted the bonnet yourself to check stuff like oil/water/brake fluid levels. I know these are covered by dash lights but what if a sensor was bad? Especially before a journey that (overall) represents 50% of your annual mileage.

I had, but thanks for judging me. I'm no mechanic, but i'm not naive to what can happen when a car is used infrequently.

Car is in the garage on a trickle charge most of the time with the bonnet up. It gets regular level checks and is driven at least every couple of weeks to keep it ticking over. Recently, due to the xmas break and an extended visit of my wifes car at Mercedes, the car has seen much more frequent use and has not needed the trickle so has been left with the bonnet down. The damage will have happened then or else I would have noticed.

Sorry - wasn't "judging you", - the OP made it sound as though you never opened the bonnet. My mistake.

No worries, I've only just woken up so was probably a bit snappy myself.

Go on...rub it in... "just woken up". I'm slaving away in the office (apart from the odd peek at AudiSRS of course to help keep me sane).

30 had years of owning cars/bikes, stripping, tuning and rebuilding.

I have never in that entire time let a garage touch any of my cars/bikes.

I've been to Unit 20 twice now.

I think the fact that I went back the second time speaks a thousand words for me. (No it's not that I'm getting old, before anyone says anything, I still get my hands dirty.)

Rich is a clever guy with a great personality.

Unit 20/Viper's casual unity provides a relaxed, yet confidence inspiring team.

You can't ask much more than that.
