That time of year again. Renewal quote from Chris Knott is awful...over 50 more than last year and on average 100 more than other places are quoting. Its with equity red star as well who, from reading reviews, sound terrible!

So who are people using?

LV have given me a reasonable quote...Chris Knott used to use highways who are part of LV and the dealings I had with them were ok.

CK are good for fairly standard cars.

I use Sky insurance.

Remember though, the absolute cheapest premium isn't always the best move

LV Highway are a safe bet, abd as you say probably a better insurer than Equity Redstar (who now call themselves ERS).

I'm currently stuck with Adrian Flux who have insured me with Equity Red Star. DO NOT EVER USE THIS COMPANY!!!

I had to make a claim due to a delivery moped rider overtaking me while I was turning into a side road and he went into the side of my car (minor damage caused) in January 2016. I am now being taken to court for the sum of 6k because the courtesy car I was given, now it seems, is not what I should of had.

I phoned Equity Red Star, who it turned out the moped rider was also insured with, to make them aware of the incident the day it happened, waited 7 days with absolutely no correspondence. I phone Adrian Flux on the 7th day to tell them and they set the ball rolling, did everything. What I was not aware of is I was given a car under a hire credit agreement (I did not request this car, it was just supplied to me via Adrian Flux) that apparently I was not entitled to. So now Equity Red Star are refusing to pay the credit hire company and I am due in court in 4 weeks. It has taken a year and a half of stress and hassle. Thank God I pay for legal cover otherwise I'd have a lot more coming out of my pocket.

Equity red star seem to be getting alot of business from specialist brokers. I used Reiss for a few years on my lotus untill they started to used equity red star last year. I then used Chris Knott for both lotus and Audi because they used highways...now they are using equity red star!!!

Adam, I had a very similar thing happen to me a few years ago except Mrs was driving my car. She was turning left into a drive when a motorbike undertook her and smashed into the side of the car. After trying to say it wasn't her fault the biker finally admitted blame. Whilst car was being fixed I got what I was told was a like for like...an M3. Car was fixed etc and thought that was the end of it until I got a letter from the claims management company I used (never again...they are sharks) saying bikers insurance wouldn't pay for the m3 and I was liable for the costs...which were quite significant! Anyway, after months of worry they finally backed down and paid. You just don't need this shit.

Hope you get it sorted.

Sky are ok so are A plan if you want a broker.

I found my local independent broker was better, price and service.
I would only take a courtesy car if it was direct from a third parties insurance company other wise I'd pass as it's well known these vultures will try and skim what they can out of a claim.
All insurers will try and save money, I hope you win your day in court.
