*** Wanted *** New Forum Charity

Dear all,

We're looking to select a new forum charity for the coming year or so. This time, we'd very much like you folks to make suggestions. The fundraising target is 2,000 and we will do lots of good stuff to reach it.

So please go ahead and nominate, and if you can help us in any way to raise money by helping arrange the charity passenger laps at ADI, run raffles etc. etc. then your help would be most welcome.

In terms of how we choose the actual charity, we're not sure and completely open to a vote or whatever people think.

Precious lives appeal we do a bit for David, great charity that makes a difference to very sick and terminal children. makes those last few days and months that little bit special for the children and the parents.

H4H gets a LOT of attention so my feeling is to consider other less prominent charities.

Therefore, my vote is for the Meningitis Research Foundation - http://www.meningitis.org/

or certainly a charity which directly benefits children in one way or the other.

I've PM'd David recommending my daughters fundraising initiative.

She has Cerebral Palsy, and we are fundraising to send her to the US to get a life-changing opertaion, not available in the UK.

Rather than copy all the info from the site into here, if you'd like to know more, her story and the details can be found here http://sdr4karis.org

Thanks

A past colleague of mine did this for his daughter late last year. The amount raised was in excess of 35K IIRC. A very expensive operation and significant post op recovery and physiotherapy.

I am very much for Help the Heros but I think there would be something special about helping out a young person related to a member on here. Good luck Grant and all the best for your daughter.

Get Mooch back in an RS charity. www.justfilching.com

Tend to agree that while H4H is a fantastic charity and those boys and girls need help and support ( I have a mate who has recently returned from Solihull and has real bad PTSD) I do feel that they get great support and financial donations- never enough mind, but apart from that the governement should do more for them.
I think a smaller charity would benefit more, a smaller more personal charity, a charity that we as SRS's can make the most difference to. 2000 to H4H would be apptreciated, 2k to the precious lives appeal or Grants Daughter would be life changing.
Which one gets my vote? both of em. Lets raise 4k.

Fair play Danny. I raised over 2k last year for MIND. I did the three peaks in 24 hours

It was the tuffest thing I have ever done. Torrential rain all weekend, broke my ribs and one finger coming down Scafel Pike at 2AM
MilkybarKid

When I say "I'm with Mooch on this one" I mean his 2nd option...

I like endurance tests
Been in the gym a fair bit starting to get back into it, problem is that the puddings are outrageously good here.

Is it possible to stick a couple of fights on to raise money?

It's a possibility I could run something along the lines of an abseil to help out, just need to look into the insurance side of things.

What charity fights forum member vs forum member lol? That would be fun ha

I too am with Mooch on this one.

Let's raise as much money as possible. But if we don't reach our desired amount, 2k goes to the smaller charity and anything above the 2k goes to HTH.

life can be so cruel, yet 99.9% of us take good health for granted... then abuse it with booze & drugs!!

lets help Karis and get Her to the U.S for the treatment required.

poor wee soul !
S4Player

Rich would you do a sky dive? Looked into it last night and it's free if we can raise a certain amount
GrantF

If any of the west coasters would like to fund-raise to participate in a sponsored Bungee Jump at Braehead on the 16th Oct, then there are links to register on the Facebook page.

16th Oct is the day after my wedding so very much doubt I would be in a fit state to do much !!  besides by then I'd have to ask the wife first

yes I would go again but not the 16th Oct I'm afraid Danny
DavidT

Please stay on-topic here guys.
S4Player

I would be waiting in the ring, you would on the hard shoulder

I agree it would be nice to see someone connected with the club getting some benefit, but maybe spilt it with cancer research or the royal marsden, who are treating me at the moment.
S4Player

Dogmatic that's a little off topic mate don't want the mods dishing out another warning ! Phil that's a great idea mate
Cornishmoocher

Have huge respect and have raised a lot of money for the Royal Marsden.
Can i make a small suggestion to the admin team?
Perhaps put a poll up, so people can state their preference without perhaps feeling awkward toward all the other very worthy causes on here....

just a thought........
MarkB

Thanks all for your suggestions. We can clearly see a trend here towards helping Karis so this is what we will be doing for the next 12 months.
