Audi S/RS 5th Annual Scottish Run - May 12-16th 2016

Phew!!! What a few days!

Norman has given me the great honour of creating the official thread this year and I hope I can do this spectacular event justice.

First of all I have to convey again my personal and collective thanks from all that attended to Norman for the amount of work he has put into this. The best bit is I'm absolutely sure you still have no idea how good it is from all of our point of view. Stirling job mate!

When Norman asked me to do this I thought I'd best keep it short, however, the events of the weekend and my innate need to ramble I know will get the better of me, so I apologise now!

We left Killin on Thursday morning after what was for a couple of us already a long 36 hours getting to Scotland, but we'd had a wee taster of what was to come on the drive from Stirling to Killin on Wednesday afternoon so the excitement was palpable.

Pic of the RS3's after a quick bath...

We set the drone aloft with Sandra reluctantly left with the controls on her lap in my car, and got a rather lovely departing shot from Killin...

Noggy Mike was pleased with what we had done...

So off we went North, towards the A9, an WOW!! What a road, I was already in heaven and we'd only been driving for 15 minutes, however, the excitement was VERY short lived. As we rounded the VERY last hairpin before the turning onto the A9 I went through a nasty pothole and immediately (as I had the windows cracked to listen to my exhaust ) heard the psssshshshshshsht of my front right rapidly evacuating it's contents.
So now I'm wondering if the others ahead (I was last) had seen, I look at my phone, no signal, luckily the car has signal so I used it's WiFi to FaceTime the Wife and get her to call the AA after telling her roughly where in the wildness I was!
At this point I see Gregor returning, and a welcome sight he was as he donned his fluorescent jacket and set to work getting the wheel off. We soon realised it was knackered and no amount of gunk would fix it, so we (reluctantly) called the other half of the Noggy AA, and after some time (not sure if he went via Inverness!) Noggy Mike appeared with his 20 inch wheel, which thankfully and amazingly fit.
So I'm rolling again, but I already know the tyre is a stupid size, and so in Inverness I had to go with a slightly larger profile and change both the right and left, but I figured "Hey, it'll work for the weekend!" How wrong was I!!
Apparently those crafty German engineers had made the ESP so smart it could tell the fronts were 5% too big and so assumed the rears were constantly overspeeding, and so killing all power - a Renault Espace out dragged me off a roundabout!
Thankfully we reached a worst case of a correct tyre meeting us in Gairloch by end of Friday, which made me feel better, but as it happened, an early Friday trip back to Inverness to get Kwik Raped solved the issue and I got a pair of the correct size
I at this point must thank Gregor and Mike for their roadside assistance, Norman, Richard, John and anyone else that was involved with "GET ME A TYRE!", and Stefan for purchasing the incorrect ones at a fair price which will fit his A6!

Hear she is in limp mode...

So the 'run proper' started on Friday, and it was for sure punctuated with the Kylesku Bridge, the scene of 'Panda Gate' (more to follow when the video is released)...

From the drone...

Once again I left Sandra in charge of the drone while we all rolled over the bridge for a shot, she was becoming quite the pro at it now

Following lunch a few of us had a quick stop atop a hill for a photo opp, can really see the purple in this one!

So Saturday comes, and another fine day it was. We were so lucky with the weather throughout the trip. This day was without doubt all about Applecross.
What a road! And some testing conditions for the drone...

So that's all I have for now. I will be spending the next couple of weeks putting all the footage I got from my camera/GoPro/drone into a short video to remember the weekend by (it will likely contain a lot of my car for which I do not apologise!).

Please post any of your own pics/vids you got here on this thread for all to see and enjoy.
Because Noggy Mike exists, I have taken the liberty of creating a Scottish Run 2016 Twaddle Thread here as we don't want a repeat of the UNM thread

Was a great weekend again with perfect weather for it! The banter at night was just as good as the driving during the day. It's good to get out out for a proper blast like that.
quattrokid

Excellent start to the thread and the following banter!!👏👍

Great to meet you Jose 👍
Norrs2

Massive thanks to Jose firstly, for putting a lot of time and effort into the whole event with the drone and GoPro!!  Thanks also for starting the thread off with some great commentary and pics!!!

Having seen a sample of the forthcoming video, we are in for a treat for sure!

In terms of out and out sound porn, for me, the RS3 8V was the star of the show. No video will fully express how this thing sounds in the flesh!! Just awesome!!!

Thanks also to everyone that attended!!! Some huge effort from Jose, Noggymike, Carl. David Bell and Stefan who had made a significant effort travelling just to get there!!

North 500 (and some) box now ticked too.

I'll stick a list of attendees up later (when I get my breath back).

Everyone was fantastic and thankfully all home safe and sound without any incidents to anything other than their wallets.

Thank you all very much for being part of the trip!!
FourRingCircus

My annual forray onto SRS brings thanks again, not only to Norman, but also to the rest of the attendees without whom, the 'event' would have just been another familiar run about our back garden, aka Gods country!

I didn't have the rally car out this year, opting instead for my latest (very standard) beast of the Ragussa RS2.  I also seem to be one of the few folks who believe that a camera should be something which has a detatchable lens and is made by a camera manufacturer, rather than a 'Jack of all' phone.  Yes, that makes me the grumpy old barsteward who doesn't embrace modern stuff (hence the RS2 is the newest Audi I own out of five)!

Anyway, my attempt at a considered shot of the line-up at Kylesku:

My wife was the designated photographer for the convoy shots, with the RS2 leading the group.  She was often to be found stretching out of the sunroof at excessive speeds, but the resulting capture didn't do justice to the following snake of Audi's, so here's a couple that (only just) made the editors cut:

Nice to have Norman sat behind us, as he definately has the best coloured B5.

Finally, since this is my reply, I feel justified in getting in an appropriate shot of my own car, as there's just not enough RS2 material going about.

Glad everyone appears to have got home safe and mega impressed with the sterling efforts of Jose, Carl and Mike's round trips.  Rest assured guys, there's no way I'd be doing that to enjoy the scenery and congestion about the M4 corridor.

Superb weekend, enormous respect to Norm for the organisation. Had a great time, all thanks to everyone who attended.

There is no doubt that a bunch of old Audi's lend a certain style to any backdrop.

The RS3 sounded amazing. Even at tickover it sounds dirty, aurally promising the ride of your life.

Graeme proving that his engine is (also) in the wrong place

The Aston looking good.

I also want to thank all the people who spoke to me after the Saturday run and asked something like "So what IS your car?" with a quizzical look on their face. You really made all the effort worthwhile.
paul.w

Looks like a cracking weekend with the weather. The drone photos look really good. Great for the group photos
stuartx

Looks a great time had, I need to get along to this, Norman has invited me the last few years but always had something on, this time a bike race.

Next year my holiday away might clash but lets wait and see.

Working on it right now - done about 2min 30sec so far and it is gooooood!
Hoping to have the first draft done by end of today.

I have a plan for one of the clips which may take some time, but I'm not sure how much yet - need to play and if it's a massive ball ache I'll drop it, but I'm hoping I can get it done tomorrow and release the complete finished article this week some time.
guymcc

May as well add mine... more of the same really but everyone like pics!!!!

davidbell

Just viewed this and thoroughly enjoyed it, at times it was hard to imagine we were in Scotland thanks to the weather.

Big thanks to Norman for organising the trip, and to Jose for taking the time and effort to make the video.

David.
