Audi s3 tune ability ?

Hey guys.

Ive been looking to get a b5 s4 but i am half tempted to get a s3 instead ....

What sort of power can you except from just a remap ? Is it a big task getting 300+bhp ?


Cheers guys. also if you own one let me know what power and what you have done to it.

Hi mate,

I used to have an S3 8L, the most youl be getting from just a remap is around 260. If you want more than that youl be looking at a bigger turbo, front mount intercooler, 3" TIP and high flow cat etc.
Im sure 300 is possible if your willing to send your hard earned.

I think if your looking for big power you should go for the s4

anyone with a 300+ bhp on audi sport .net always had some kind of problem to be honest

at 300+ bhp you'll need rods too

Thanks for the info. I do want big power but i am slightly put of by the 2,7 v6 as the engine looks bait scary to work on to be honest.

and its the old s3 I'm looking at.

i owned one, good car for 280 bhp

most of the 300+ ones seemed to spend more time in the garage than one the road !

S4's are a peace of art and lovely to work on once the engine is out!

you'll spend more money getting a RELIABLE 300+ bhp out of an s3 than you would getting 400 bhp out of an s3.....

300+ bhp from an s3 is a massive job and will hit you in the wallet 300+ bhp and 500 ish NM torque from an S4 is only a map and exhaust away..

I had the BAM 225 lump in my Mk2 golf and to get anywere near 300bhp will cost a lot.

You can stick a bigger turbo on and have well over 300 but at around 350bhp you will the on the verge of melting the exhaust valves and the rod's will be following closely behind them.

Mine was 2ltr stroked bottom end with rod's (rated to 550bhp) so that was strong and reliable, std ko4 head and turbo, emerald k3 ecu, genises 550cc injectors, 4bar fpr, fmic, sfs hoses, i/c pipework, itg filter, VR6 t/b, all that only ran to 272bhp and 345lb/ft but was strong safe and reliable but it wasnt cheap.

The big show stopper is the ex manifold, stick a better one on and you will possibly see 300bhp but again those manifold's arent cheap.

It was very good power/torque in a light weight car but was'nt user friendly hense why i replaced it with a S4, as with and S4 you can buy one, fit full XS power DP's and system, map it and see 320bhp 400lb/ft kind of figures and all that can be done for a few thousand less than it would cost to make a S3 produce a strong and reliable user freindly 300+bhp

FMIC
3" TIP
3"DP
Full 2.75" cat-back exhaust
Relentless manifold
Air filter
Custom map to pretty much max out the ko4

But then you've got to think about brakes, suspension etc...

Not cheap! That's why I want an RS4 so badly. My 270bhp S3 8L is great, but it's the slowest car in the household!

You can safely add a turbo to that list. Even maxed out, a stock K04 won't do 300.

i had an mtm one that was e 330bhp kit then remapped to 345bhp. It made this figure at SRR whilst in my ownership and that was with standard inter coolers and internals.

i had it for 6 months and i never had a problem with it and i drove it properly, it even returned 32mpg.

you can have over 300bhp anr reliable, however i think its a rare thing, but its also worth knowing that its not the engine that struggles but suspension, brakes etc etc. im just lucky i had a good one

Mine was maxed out and made 272bhp and that had only done 25k from new, some claim to have over 300 on stock but as Mihnea said its not going to happen with out it going pop very shortly.

Hybrid k04 yeah ok it may push over 300 but reliability is going to be an issue plus the cost of a hybrid k04 is not worth it for the in my eyes minimal gains.
