Audi S4 B5 Saloon

After being on here for some time I thought i'd post a thread on my S4. Purchased the car back in january from steveyid and grimreaper owning it before who done most of the work to this car.

It has the RS4 interior in it which need a good clean soon. Pioneer headunit, bose, cruise control.

During me ownership these past few months, the car came on bilstein shocks and eibach springs, good for a fast road set up but was too harsh for me. So changed them for BC coilovers fully adjustable dampening all round. I also fitted Rota Grids 18" x 9.5 allround and refreshed the calipers in yellow.

Currently it's in a million pieces due to the exhaust manifold breaking up and jamming the driver side turbo. So turbos have been sent for refurbishment and in the meantime I gave the engine a good clean and replaced and gaskets/seals too.

Cam cover gaskets were shot so replaced them to start with. Removed the intake manifold to clean up underneath and check the state of the intakes. All was good there and purchased new gaskets from audi. Exhaust manifolds are no good so replacing them for rs4 manifolds.
Gave the engine a good degrease from years of grime and oil, also cleaned the engine bay, chassis legs, subframe, replaced the windscreen wash bottle.

So over the next week or so, will be refitting and I'll get more pics up. Just waiting for turbos to arrive from the turbo unit, exhaust manifolds and gaskets from audi. Also a new clutch i'll be going for a Loba 650.

Thanks for reading.

Tought i'd share the other love in my life, my daily A4 B7 black edition

SinghB7

More updates on the engine pull.

2 rebuilt turbos courtesy from The Turbo Unit, very highly reccomended.

Also new timing belt fitted, new thermostat, tensioners etc big thank you to Ben from TTU for doing this for me, never knew how complicated it is.

Old RS clutch

New Loba 650 replacing the old clutch with single mass flywheel

What a mess

As mentioned Grim reapers old car. Which was local to me! The grids really suit it. Nice to see it getting some refreshed love. Must be coming on in the miles by now?

Thanks, 163k miles and still going strong, car is an animal. Will be off to MRC again once all the new bits are fitted and have a once over.
Iamneallyons

Nice motor!
guymcc

The rs4 grill make a huge difference to the s4 front end.  Nice looking car.
SinghB7

Thanks! Needs blacking out will do that soon, full dechrome.
Engine will be going back in this week, and hopefully running by next weekend. Can't wait!
SinghB7

Fresh turbos!

All new washers, replaced every one with copper ones instead of the aluminium ones.

Nice work love the grids was much work needed to get them to fit?
SinghB7

They are 18x9.5 allroud et 35 iirc. Using 225/40/18 tyres.

Had to use 10mm spacer upfront to clear my 18z caliper and using 15mm rear to match the front. Plenty of clearance unless the cars real low the front will catch the wing but I have since raised it half inch.
RS4Jules

Ey up mate

Really liking the b5

Whats going on with the b7 front wheel fitment though lol
SinghB7

Thanks Jules, long story, mivw 2014 didn't want to run 10" wide front so opted for 8.5's, didn't realise how far in they sit and couldn't get spacers in time. Looked good picture makes it look so far in lol
SinghB7

Engines ready to go back in, just the weather holding back now as its been rain for 3 days. Hopefully tomorow should clear up and get it back in.

I noticed how the intake pipes sit so close to the exhaust manifolds, and wondered they must get so hot from the exhaust. That would be no good, i'm allready running water meth but thought i'd wrap the intake pipes to stop the heat transferring to the intake pipes.

Ignore the cable ties, they are there untill I get some metal ones later today.

Engine allready to drop back in.

Only have to get a aux fan belt and tensioner this weekend and sparkplugs. Then it's just a case of putting everything back together and get it running.
SinghB7

Dropped the engine back in on the weekend, went in easier then I thought.

New parts again

Replaced auxillary tensioner as the old one was rusty and bearings seemed notchy. Also fitted a new belt too, 1855mm for reference

New bosch oil filter

Removed sump plug, oil still clean, no bits on the plug either very happy with that.

Will post more when I've fitted everything back up and its running, within the next couple days.

Thanks for reading.
SinghB7

Well the motors back in and running! Happy days.

frazz82

Good news! Car is now done and running! Took it for a drive after everything was ready. On the first drive, the driver side a boost hose poped off, back on the driveway refitted the hose, I must have tightened the clip on the lip of the metal pipe so it slipped off. Refitted that hose and took it for another run, just a gentle drive since the refitting of the turbos etc, everything was fine. Took it for abit of a harder drive and another hose slipped off from the intercooler, must have done the same thing tightened it on the lip to prevent from coming off. Refitted that and just done a few miles of dual carriageeay driving to make sure I heared no noises and everything is good.

Took it for a drive last night, my god the thing is bloody quick! Driving my a4 diesel for the past 3 months even that mapped to 220bhp, felt so slow to this. Started losing interest halfway thru the build but was it worth it? HELL YH.

So its booked into mrc end of this month for a few things. In the mean time I'll drive it here and there to wear eveything in and the loba clutch.

Before I fitted the bumper back on

Also treated myself to a new personalised plate
S4 Muzza

Looks awesome! Can I ask where you got the plate? I've been looking for a decent one for a while but nothing on the dvla site takes my fancy...
SinghB7

Thanks mate, I bought this from dvla website a month ago after seeing it advertised on ebay by a third party seller.

Did you find 5x112's? LOVE the wheels! i need to go lower!
TurboTy

Where did you get the intercooler from? Looks like a nice bit of kit!
Bradderz_1988

Nice build, loving those rota grids 👍🏻

The spec of mine were 18x9.5 et30, but on a 114.3pcd using wobble bolts and a 225/40 tyre. They do make them in 112pcd now though i believe. I had to use 5mm spacers to clear the front 18z calipers, but a mate of mine who fitted the same wheels, same calipers, but on a facelift S4 went straight on with no spacers?! Go figure!

Sorry to hijack your thread   but gotta love a set of Grid Drifts!
kylebrady

Grid drifts look sooooo good
SinghB7

Cheers for the replies. The intercooler was fitted by the previous owner not by me. Has no brand on it either so not sure who made it.

The grids I had to use 10mm spacer and mine are et38. And it 'just' clears. Rears i have spaced 15mm but is not required as they will clear b6 300mm rears.

ideal! i have 10mm fronts and 12mm rears anyway!

So after fitting the new ttu turbos, new clutch and flywheel, and all the other bits I booked the car in for a mrc map tweek. Back in 2010 with the previous owner forum member grimreaper, it was on the stock ko4 turbos. After having them refurbished to stage 1 by the turbo unit it needed a tweek for them.

Current mods:
Stage 1 KO4 hybrids built by the turbo unit
Siemens 630cc injectors
Devilsown water meth injection
Rs4 exhaust manifolds
Bosch 044 fuel pump
Dual straight thru 2.5" turbo back custom exhause with miltek back box
Loba 650 clutch and smf
Pipercross panel filter in drilled airbox
Front mount intercooler

Made 497bhp which im happy with, was a hot day otherwise it would have made more then 500bhp easy.

Also had flatshift and antilag mapped in

Noggymike

Great result Harman

Getting through plenty of 99 RON atm I should imagine
SinghB7

Thanks Mike! Only had it mapped thursday gone thru 2 tanks of momentum allready lol
rs6fan

Really like the look of the car and as for the power, well that speaks for it's self!
SinghB7

Thank you! Just needs a paint job soon and i'll be happily with it!
