Best Handling Setups

Has anyone found a setup they are completely happy with?

Any particular choices that made a noticeable difference?

I'll be getting new tyres and the alignment done soon so was wondering if anyone has any recommendations for geometry? I was going to go for standard.

Setup will be:

-Bilstein B12 coilovers
-Standard front ARB
-H and R rear ARB
-18" x 7.5 wheels with 34mm offset
-Goodyear F1 Asymmetric 3's (225/40)
-4 wheel alignment for standard geometry

Edit; Please could a Mod move this to the B5 S4/RS4 forum?

Don't forget reinforcing brackets for rear ARB.

Sounds like a decent set up.

Thanks, some very interesting posts. I've got all new front and rear arms and bushes and new tie rods so hopefully the garage knows what they're doing with the 4 wheel alignment.

I'll check the ride height but I don't think I'm able to adjust the height on the Bilsteins.

ShivasRegal

You considered 235 40 18s upfront?

No, but that sounds intriguing. I heard the RS3's do that. I assume it's to reduce understeer.

Is that what you run?
ShivasRegal

I will be running that set up with the same rear ARB as you and standard front in the hope of getting the most out of handling. Anything to try and dial out understeer.

Wider fronts than rears on a quattro? Need to be very careful with rolling radius etc etc surely?

Thanks Mike, that's an interesting thread. I'm on the Isle of Man so probably going to make it too expensive to make it over just for that. Sounds like he knows what he's doing though.

It surprised me how they do the corner weighting, I.e altering the ride heights. Had never really thought about it.

Equalising the camber at the front - I remember seeing a thread where people disagreed on whether it was worth undoing the sub frame bolts to equalise the camber. Does anyone have any thoughts on this?

Depends if you can undo them on these cars as now they are so old!

This isn't the case! Had a 16 plate one here today on the same factory tyres all round

Did you mean to quote my post Aidan? If so, I was looking at another Audi forum discussing RS3's and apparently the wider 235 front tyres were an option.

Anyway, I was convinced enough to try them out, but after looking on Blackcircles it appears you pay a premium for 235/40/18 over 225's. So maybe not. Must be a less popular size.

Was more posting both our posts rich, my brother in laws RS was here yday with 235's all round from the factory so clearly a few options from Audi

On those Rs'....isn't the front track wider than rear?
