BMW to withdraw from F1

Apparently there is a press conference tomorrow where BMW will withdraw from F1 with effect from the end of this season.
derdle

Crikey Kubica and Heidfeld looking for seats next year then?
James

Tis a shame

Looks like it has been confirmed by the BBC.

Hmmm. I lost all sympathy for BMW when they dumped Williams and said some very nasty things about them. Did you know that Williams suffered 200 BMW engine failures in one year ?

Shame for F1 though.

Edited to add: I guess we will get 3 manufacturers in DTM now, nobody watches ALMS anyway

perhaps  BMW are first to break away to start this alternative F1 and other teams will soon follow suite?

Nope, I don't think so. BMW would not want to race in any type of 'F1' their car is terrible

BMW was one of the only teams to stand behind the proposed new rules of budget caps etc. They aren't part of the FOTA group are they?

Well I'll be jiggered, thought they weren't part of FOTA. There you go, you can learn something new every day.

Didn't know that

Kubica will find his way into a top 3 team, dunno about Heidfeld.

They had a good chance to win it in 2008: http://www.forumula1.net/2008/f1/f1-news/bmw-2008-season-review/ (don't you just love google )

An idiots guide to greatness.

Do we think the BMW team will end up being purchased then? Seems likely. Mad to setup a new team when the whole thing can be had for very little. Just the dedundancies would cost BMW a fortune otherwise too, so it suits them.
Adam

Any rumours on who might purchase them David?
