Car / Cover swap

Dear sirs / madams
I insure 2 classic and 2 moderns with yourselves.
This morning i called your internet number and spoke to a lovely lady who guided me through an s4 to rs4 cover swap. All done in minutes and only had to pay a £25 change fee.
Many thanks
Simon

Ok

So had my car stolen whilst on holiday ... see thread on s4 and rs4 b5

I have been passed from pillar to post with Adrian Flux and guess what ... my car was insured (by ageas) to be garaged between 10pm and 6am. It normally is but on this instance it was on the drive and taken between 9-9.30pm (I have a neighbour eye witness to account for this) yet they say NOT COVERED.

Totally unacceptable.

I asked my brother who works as an insurance broker, if this is correct
His reply below.

No. The question is something like "where is the vehicle usually parked?" So you are still covered if its parked somewhere else.

It would be very harsh to void your insurance just for that. The worst that will happen is they with charge you any extra due if for example you'd parked it in your neighbours garden all along and then pay out the claim.

I work in insurance and I've seen this type of scenario time and time again.

I'm hearing more and more shit like this about Adrian Flux in recent years which is a shame.  I was with them for my S4, and it makes me question whether I want to ever go back with them.

9-9:30pm is before the 10pm.  So I'm not sure what they are playing at.

Garaged 10pm to 6am does not mean you cannot drive the car between 10pm and 6am.  I remember having this conversation with the current insurer of my 205 - if I drive to a shop/ pub / friends house and the car is stolen from there (say) between 10-11pm, I am insured etc

No. I had that stipulation in the policy I had in my kit car - garaged by 10pm unless in use, which included being parked elsewhere before being used as transport to return home. Parked outside the garage goes against the conditions of the policy.

Pity you didn't leave it in the garage if you were going on holiday - a lesson to us all I guess. Hopefully they find it in good health or pay you out on it if it doesn't turn up.

Where would you stand having the keys 3000 miles from the car though and with no way of getting into the garage for 10pm, or would that not make a difference? Hopefully they see sense anyway.

This thread reminds me of a similar one a few years back.  Lancia Delta Integrale stolen.  Insurer declined to pay out because the owner had been made redundant / lost his job, so was unemployed rather than doing the job role declared on his policy at the renewal time.  Let me think back which insurance company that was.

My car is/was always parked in the garage. The key to the lock snapped the day before so i could/cannot gain entry.
I could have lied and said it was in the garage but it wasn't (nobody would have been the wiser) My policy states where is it "nornally" kept at night....i said garage....and that is true ie normally.
The fact is i could not gain entry to my garage the night before i went on holiday so i left it secure on my drive. What would you have done in that situation?

The wording in 99% of policies say "normally" so there's a good chance they will have to change there stance.

I would get some proper legal advise if they still can't insist on non cover.

Good luck mate.

Hi Simon,

Sorry to hear this, if you wanted to PM me I'd be happy to look into it for you.

Kind Regards

What was the out come of this please?  I have a renewal coming up soon, I have been insured with Flux previously, one of my cars is currently insured elsewhere on a limited mileage policy which stipulates being garaged overnight
Ian_C

Simon, thank you for your message, very much appreciated.

Hi, I was interested to know as well. Last time I changed insurer was because I was with Markerstudy as an underwriter, and they've had some bad press from members on here as they paid out less than half value of car....My renewal is due in a month and is with Adrianflux(unsure of underwriter).

Thanks
