Car modification TV shows

For years i've been watching and mostly enjoying Pimp My Ride.  When it came out, it was a new idea and was a good 30 minutes of background TV.
Some of the transformations were excellent, but after episode 5 million it started to get a bit tiresome.  You could pretty much guarantee that they were going to put on some form of chrome Giovanna rims, fit 100 tv monitors, not paint door shuts and usually do daft things such as removing the back seats or filling up the boot space so the car was no longer practical for the owners.

Typical Pimp My Ride Shed!

Now realising how tired the 'PMR' format is, I've started watching a couple of other shows.

One which I stumbled across is 'Monster Garage' currently showing on DMAX.  A US show where they are given a normal car in reasonable nick (ie: new shape Beetle, PT Cruiser, etc.) and have to make something ridiculous out of it such as a wood chipper, nut shaker (for collecting nuts off trees!), car crusher, etc. but the car needs to remain looking stock.
It's quite entertaining, the people working on the show change each show and they seem to really know they're stuff.  The 'boss' is a custom chopper designer called Jesse James who specialises in fancy metalwork.  It's worth a watch.

Here's a  pic of a pick-up which they converted into a 'Terminator Styled Motorbike launcher':

I was recently recommended 'Overhaulin'.  I've watched a couple of these shows and the cars they do are amazing.  They basically take someone's old car, then turn it into a show-stealing hot rod.  Chip Foose (legendary hot rod creator) heads up a team of specialists from various aspects of the custom vehicle industry.
The attention to detail in the builds is phenomenal.  In each of the 3 episodes i've watched so far, he's had custom wheels created from scratch for the cars.  In one show, he didn't like his design once they were on the car, so he got a new set of wheels.  Car mod madness!
They also tend to replace the engine or at the very least strip it down and rebuild it to give it a custom look.  You never saw that in Pimp my Ride!
The only downside to this show is the really really annoying presenters and super cheesy way they host the show, including utterly pointless and totally obvious phone pranks to the car owners, etc.

Still, the tacky show format can't ruin this awesome show when they produce beautied like this:

I'm off work ill today and bored to tears.
Can anyone recommend another vehicle modification based show worth watching before swine flu gets the better of me?

overhaulin is brilliant, I like it because it seems to be the only one where they actualy do any engine work.

Chip Foose, yes the motors are top.

The really annoying presenter, what that guy.............. or the nice girl who is well tight......... come on you like her........

Nope, they both need a slap!!

I see from the website that they are about to do a new series.  I just hope they get rid of those zany presenters.  Their piss-take facts must be insulting to enthusiasts of the cars that are being worked on.

It just seems weird because the content of the show is clearly petrol heads, but the presenters seem to be aimed at pre-school children.

Sure they ould do a good job on Overhaulin  but I've been wondering how they would do on a European car such as an Audi or anything more modern though. They seem to concentrate on a limited range of Mustangs or anything that could take a Hemi or Mopar engine.

Slightly different, but Wheeler Dealers on one of the Discovery channels can be interesting - more restore/ refurb and sell but often worth watching. Although last nights did show I would be too tall to ever drive a Triumpgh Spitfire

I haven't.  Tell us a bit about it.

Oh, forgot about Chop Shop.

That's mildly amusing.  An East-end head mechanic and a wacky Bangladeshi designer fight like husband and wife and turn wrecks into... better presented wrecks.

They usually design stupid things, but there was one episode I saw where they converted a clapped out old Jag into something quite special.

Yeh, there pretty stupid there, wasnt there a guy who though his 318 was an M3, and another when his old beemer was dying, and he though it was a cracked camshaft.

I loved The Garage. Had it on series link on the sky+ box and watched all of 'em but think they're all repeats of old stuff now. I thought Ed was a seriously funny bloke!

Custom my Ride is ace, customers are hollywood stars and ask for Merc S500 limo's to be turned into 2 door coupes or a 2008 Dodge Charger having the body cut off and replaced with one from a 60's Dodge Charger.  New car, old car looks!  They even shortened and roof chopped a brand new Range Rover.  Its what West Coast Customs really do.

Anyone remember a show where they had a rolling road between 2 cars and the winner won a sponge or something, had a manc fella being a priest?

That's one that was shown last week. I like the format of the new series cause they don't mess about half the show with the saftness of stealing the car
