Downshifting Tiptronic

This is my first automatic

Just to confirm.. in sport/drive mode, the Tip will automatically downshift when the brake is applied, depending on the intensity of deceleration, I'm fine with that.

Say I'm doing 70mph and I just take foot of gas and decelerate without brake down to 40mph, when I press accelerator next it will be gutless pull away as it still thinks its in 6th - so no downshift will occur until brake next applied?

Presumably downshifting in manual using engine braking is putting additional wear on the transmission, so better off braking all times.

The gearbox will down shift when the revs are below 1200rpm. In your 70mph-40mph example it should down-shift to 5th at 40mph but that is right on the 5th/6th gear change limit so it may stay in 6th.

Manual down-shift using the paddles puts no extra wear on the gearbox, only accelerating adds wear.

Thanks, think I've been a bit of a pleb and not kicking down hard enough say at 50Mmph, it's no good touching the accelerator lightly to give it the beans, I can see now
