electrical problems

seem to have hit a rich vein of electrical issues!

first....
speedo died

I investigated and found the fuse to the reversing light had blown
I read that it also runs on the speed sensor being connected to the reverse light switch. made sense.
disconnected the reverse light switch ...fuse still blows.

now when I sit with the key in but ignition off and door open
if I put my foot on the brake the sidelight warning tone comes on...like I have left the lights on

I investigated and found that when the side lights are on the brake lights flicker!

WTF is going on!?>?>!

Sounds like a bad earth somewhere, or maybe a short across the loom. Has the car ever been rear-ended?

hi what you could do using a multi meter measure the current flow on the earth one to a good known earth (body) and the other end to the rear light clusters earth with it connected and lights on you should see max .0.4- 0.5 volts if its any higher u have a earth problem e.g. rusty earth somewhere or resistance in the rear loom for the lights hope this helps
