gearbox very hot

Hi guys, i have recently bought a Audi rs6 c5, i want to know if it is normal for my gearbox compartment area to be very hot ?
jockthedog

Egg-fryingly hot or just warm? The oil inside gets to 100deg+.
Is this after a few mins or after 500 miles at ermmm 70mph?

But I'd defo advise you to get your Gbox oil levels checked asap.
Would cost next to nothing. Could save you 1000's

Yes it is extremly hot, its not after afew mins rather after maybe 30mins of driving thats even driving sensible

Yes i will have oil checked out tomarow morning. Thanks

What do you rekon this could be ?

Who knows mate, but best get the obvious out of the way first.
Could be the heat shielding that keeps the exhaust heat away from the body, has come off.

Thanks mate, i will have her checked in the morning.

Can you feel the heat when you are sat in the car and you touch the centre console next to the gearstick or is it your legs feeling hot?

If it's only your legs then the it could be the gearbox heatshield and likely to be coming from the right turbo as it sits next to your left calf which could explain the hot feeling if you've been driving over 3k RPM.

If it's the centre console area then thats the diff at the rear of the gearbox and the Main Cats in the exhaust and, again, there's a heatshield above which should be checked.

Compared to the Exhaust and Turbo the gearbox itself is "relatively" cool at 100'c so if the box is getting hot enough for you to feel thats bad!

hi guys,

"If it's the centre console area then thats the diff at the rear of the gearbox and the Main Cats in the exhaust and, again, there's a heatshield above which should be checked."

that had seem to be the fault,

thanks
