Help no indicators

Right so I had the build up to indicators becoming INOP with the flash the won't flash but is illuminated on the dash by arrows and outside. So swapped out the hazard switch like stated and worked...All of two days

Now I'm not getting anything on the dash when selecting and hazards are working all bulbs are good apart from a side light

What to check now
Aragorn

do the hazards work?
Madpugger

Yeah hazards work but now no illumination on dash when trying to use turn signals,
Madpugger

So to be clear

A few weeks ago the turn signals started playing up when they would flash outside and on dash for a few times then go solid intermittent then all the time. So with this I switched out the hazard switch with a brand new one and fixed the problem

Two days after fitting new switch my turn signals have packed up all together so both directions don't work, nothing on the dash no arrows lighting up. When pressing the hazard switch it works all bulbs and on the dash

I checked some of the fuses they seem good. Position 2 being turn signals

dont know how much access you have to parts, but sticking the old relay back in should confirm if *something new* has happened or not.

my previous S4 had the hazard switch "die" but as it is just metal contacts I took it apart and cleaned it and it worked perfectly thereafter.

So,
1) you may still have a previous hazard relay to confirm if the relay (new one) is acting up...and
2) you should be able to take either of them apart and repair it with good old fashioned hand tools (bit of sandpaper)

the flasher relay is two relays..one does indicators and one does hazards...yours are both faulty in different ways. take 'em apart and clean the contacts up and forget about it for the next 10 years

So let me get this right, directional indicators don't work but hazzards work as they should?

Have you tried the indicator stalk just to rule that out, a multi meter should be sufficient for testing it so your not just fitting parts willy nilly.
madmax2

the "flasher relay" part has TWO relays inside..one does hazards, one does indicators. Either one or both can go faulty (pitted contacts)
Burnzybubbles

Yea, I'm just giving another option if it doesn't turn out to be the relay that's all.
Madpugger

That's it being a new relay fitted work all of two days doesn't seem right to me, OK OK it not OEM part that has been fitted one from eBay so maybe that could factor. I don't have the old one stupidity I thrown it out least I could of tried that to rule out what was at fault.
Aragorn

bin the ebay part and replace it with a proper one.

You can easily test the stalk if you want to rule it out, theres a 3 pin connector on the top of the stalk with black and green wires.

The stalk simply connects one of the two colored wires to the three colored wire, which you can replicate with a piece of wire or paper clip.

I knew purchasing a eBay one was going to be hassle. I'll get stores to order one tomorrow in and try that, if it's shorted happy days, if not will figure out stalk, I thought possible ground issue, I do get flickering on my speedo with the needles but only oil temp and clock.
Madpugger

So got a genuine hazard switch from work will fit tonight and report back
Madpugger

Morale of the story don't buy Chinese crap from eBay lasted two days, put in new switch and working spot on. Unless something shorted it .... Time will tell
