Woman, 20, charged with dangerous driving

This is the terrifying moment a lorry driver came face-to-face with a motorist driving the wrong way down a dual carriageway.
While the lorry is motoring along ahead of a turn off on the A90 near Aberdeen his view is impaired by another lorry on his inside and then, all of a sudden, a Vauxhall Corsa comes into his lane - and neither vehicle has time or space to dodge the other.
Coming the wrong way out of an exit slip road the female car driver appears to clip the 44-tonne truck as the driver tries to swerve out of the way - she is then slammed into the side of the first lorry and the front of her car is ripped off.

Nowhere to go: The Vauxhall Astro comes hurtling out of the exit - the wrong way - and clips the lorry, which causes it to jackknife across the road
But the collision causes the huge juggernaut to lose balance, topple over and scarily jackknife across the busy road before coming to a halt in shrubbery, on its side. An eerie silence follows.
Amazingly, no one was injured when the incident took place last Tuesday outside Aberdeen, with the whole event captured on the lorry driver's Roadhawk GPS camera system.
The footage - and the pictures which were taken at the scene - show that as the truck rolls, dozens of cement bags are dramatically spewed all over the road.
Smash: The Vauxhall Corsa is shown with its front ripped off, after it kissed the front of the first lorry, which is shown tipped over on its side

Jackknifed: The 44-tonne truck's cement bags are shown scattered across the A90 road, near to Aberdeen

Down but not out: The Roadhawk GPS camera shows the lorry, on its side, coming to a halt at the side of the dual carriageway
Grampian Police had to close the road for six hours while highway workers cleared the carriageway.
And the police confirmed that a 20-year-old woman, who was driving the Corsa, has been charged with dangerous driving.

The Roadhawk GPS - a tracking system fitted to vehicles which includes video and a map, like a car black box recorder - helped police work out what had happened.

The young motorist will have a date in court in the coming weeks, though the YouTube video has become a hit and since it was uploaded, on Saturday, it has received nearly 40,000 hits.

Blind spot: This is where the lorry driver first glimpses the oncoming car, who swerves out of the way of the first truck and into the path of the second

Collision course: As the car comes out of the exit lane, neither driver has anywhere to go
A Crown Office spokesman told MailOnline: 'The Procurator Fiscal at Aberdeen has received a report concerning a 20-year-old woman in relation to an incident on the A90 on 22 March 2011.

'The matter remains under consideration.'

I saw this not long after it happened, was a fair mess. That lass is one lucky bugger, if the lorry driver wasn't on the ball it could have been a damn site worse

I had someone driving towards me on a dual carriageway when I was in a driving a 12 tonne coach, fortunately there was a wide enough median for them to be in.  I also had someone trying to rejoin a motorway at an off-slip, but they didn't get away so lucky as I was doing 100kmh and had nowhere to go.

My mate was driving home one night on some dual carrigeway and said he saw lights coming towards him, as they got closer he realised they were on his side just as the car got to him (it was on a long corner) and thankfully shot past him VERY fast!

Does make you wonder why she never thought about hitting the middle pedal and stopping way before hand??

Amanda's reading the Daily Mail again !

However .. Thank god all where OK and no one hurt

There is a short bit of Dual Carriage way just before I get home 40mph limit on a sweeping left curve .. There is a Supermarket turns out on to the road .. Every few months a car comes out the Supermarket .. turns RIGHT into the overtaking lane of the the LEFT carriage way and meets head on traffic .. Luckily as its 40mph no one gets hurt Forum Index -> Roads & Driving
