K04 & Widebody ... Now V8TT

Having had the S4 for a couple of years now, nearly 180K miles on it, I thought itís was time for a serious service..

I dreamed of having a B5 RS4 but in a saloon and having been in a 700hp+ 3.0L in Florida earlier this year my mind was set...oh boy was it set † .

I set upon collecting bits here and there with the intention to do the build. My journey buying parts has taken me to Germany, Austria, Holland, Poland all over the UK, meeting cool people †(Hence the high miles † )

after a few setbacks including some W**k stain who stole a set of rear 3/4 panels from my lock up I now have all the bits required for the conversion.

At this point I would like to thank the following members for their help and assistance in selling / providing advise so far (in no particular order)

Musty, PaulyRS4, Quattronutter, Mike159, S4woody, Jimbo, Parptoot, H8CAK, ALPS, Ingo in Germany, andrea88, Jacek in Poland, Marlon in Holland

What I plan to do is have the following;

Standard S4 bottom end with facelift oil pan and sensor
RS injectors
APR bi-pipe
K04's
Bailey Diverter Valves,
RS4 fuel pump,
Setrab oil cooler
RS4 Exhaust †
K&N panel filter
Power flex bushes
Progressive 150HP nitrous system
Solid billet sub frame bush replacement (not sure about this)
Tubular Manifolds
ESP DTS
Hotchkis ARBís

Body Work

OEM B5 RS4 Panels
OEM RS4 wheel liners
Complete respray (Black)

Interior

RS4 Recaro interior
RS4 instrument Cluster
RS4 steering wheel

Wheels

19Ē Gallardo with 255/35 Michelin sport tyres
RS4 Brake rotors

I am defiantly going to do the 3.0L in a couple of years but for now hopefully the K04ís will do to satisfy me

Parts:

will post more as I progress

Great news Bim

Just a bit of advice.... Dont use the Rs injeators as they have the wrong spray pattern for the S4 engine. 440 Green top injectors are what u want (MRC), Id als go for the MRC Pannel filter and defo not the baily recirc valves. I ditched mine as they were causing boost leaks!! I went back to the 710N's and Doug will say the same. Alos be carful with the Ebay/XS Power manifolds as they have a tendancy to crack on the welds. Also the Bosh Motorsport fuel pump is what u want
H8CAK

Oh and if your using second hand turbos make sure they are refurbed before fitting as it will only be another engine pull if anything goes wrong!
icelightblue1

Thanks for the advise Carl,

Bailey's and Injectors are to be ditched . Turbo's were looked professionally and given the all clear † .

The manifolds were custom made for me using ebay ones as a guide after speaking to Musty and Aiden about the ebay ones and quality .

I started writing the post a couple of weeks ago but only found the file on my misplaced usb stick today and will bring the post up to speed soon †
docurley

And another project begins

Can't wait to see the widebody conversion they look ace. Good luck with the build.

Rear 1/4's mate
icelightblue1

This was the car on Tuesday

frazered

whos doing the work for you?
H8CAK

Edit to my previous post 660cc injectors would be best
carpy

Blimey I didn't realise an RS4 instrument cluster would fit into an S4? Anyone know where I can source one!!
loomx

I know! I want one too, dont do what I was doing... I saw a few on ebay.de and was really close to bidding on one... till I realise that it would be in kmph lol.
carpy

Lol I forsee a bidding war then if one comes up in MPH!

That would be so mint though. If there's'one thing that bugs me about the car. it's that the dash has an analogue clock and the DIS is f*cked    ....RS4 upgrade would  be lovely
H8CAK

I quite fancy some Rs clocks too. Will match the rest of the car nicely
carpy

Yup - I've got rs4 engine, rsr4 steering wheel and most recent addition rs4 handbrake cover & boot! rs4 clocks would be mint. i've even heard the centre console can be swapped for rs4 too??
H8CAK

Center console the same as a S4 double din console! I just want the clocks to go with my RS4 Body, Interior ect. No engine

Talk to Mike159 as he has a S4 instrument cluster from a pre facelift model but in rs4 cluster housing, so it does not have a digital clock but its a straight swap for pre face lift (and immobiliser recoding of course).

got my rear 1/4 of him today and saw the cluster its in good condition with no dead pixels from what I saw

Body work will be done by a familly friend, the servicing etc is being done by the guy's whom had the white rs4 at ADI, there called quattro coachworks based near junction 12 M1
Mike159

Nice to meet you today Bim, top guy hope the build goes well for you
PaulyRS4

Those dials will look the nut bim, hope the build goes well mate. The car will look the nuts when finished.
ian52

Anybody heard from him recently? Im meant to be buying some of the bits he is removing but not heard from him for a good few days. Dont think he has been on here as he hasnt read a couple of pm's from me.
Alps

Saw him last night. He's had a lot on these last few days. Should be seeing him tonight so will ask himm to get in touch.
ian52

Thanks.
Alps

Ian, I spoke to him. He's not been online for a few days as he's been incredibly busy. But as soon as he's free he'll get in touch.
ian52

No problem. Just tring to ge the bits before christmas so i can get them painted when im off. How is his car getting on now?
icelightblue1

After getting the car back from ISH at Quattro Coachworks all K04'd up. Just need to put in the larger injectors and do a remap. The car does run much better than before but seriously think my MAF is shot as I have noticed a big hike in petrol consumption.

It is now time to get the body parts on
Soon after my last post I was made redundant from work and to put the project on hold.
Unforunately the redundancy involved the use of solicitors to reach a fair conclusion, anyway that all behind me now and time to finish the car.

I have my dads old friend that is to weld and prep the rear 1/4 panels this coming sunday. but in the mean time I have just spent a day putting on the doors front wings and bumper at Pit Start garage in Park Royal

Did you get those spacers? If not have a look on the for sale section. there are some up for grabs.

Hey Alps,

for the  lambo wheels to fit perfect I need at least 20MM spacers. which i will have by the weekend.

You really did not want to be there while I was doining the work.... too much foul language

Plus if I was an apprentice I probably would have put the front panels on the rear, the bumper grilles on the boot lid and.................. generally caused more work for you!!

Just walked past your road. Was gonna pop round to have a butchers but was in a rush.

Give me a yell this weekend. Eager to try out those alloys

PS Just read the bit about locking in the car keys Guess you managed to mess up all by yourself without my help

How long did it take you to swap the doors and wings please?

looking good mate...cant wait to see it all finished. black would look good.

you doing anything to the interior at all?

MarkB wrote:

The doors and wings took me about 8 hours. Everything went on well with no major issues except the drivers door, there had been side damage previously and i had to replace the hinge. All i have to do is get this door aligned for this sunday.

Hey Ash25,

i have put the B5 RS4 Recaro's in and am hoping to have the RS4 instrument cluster in by the weekend.

For the center console i have a complete double din facelift version that i am thinking about changing all the plastic colour to piano black followed by the door trims.

hi mate, rs4 seats are much better than the standard s4 ones aren't they!

the facelift conversion for the dash is definetly worth doing as it makes it much more modern and in keeping with todays cars ....good choice.

looking forward to the end results...should be good!

i am seriously thinking of putting in an rs4 cluster in mine too....should look the business once done.

good luck with it all. can't wait for another widebody on here to be finished.

Let me know if you need any pictures of what to cut for the rear quarter.

Better still have a look yourself.

What wheels have you got planned or are you leaving them nicely tucked up inside the arches ?!

ian52

Getting there now. What wheels you going for on it? Its going to look good anyway.

Hi Ian

got some 19" Gallardo wheels going on tomorrow.. but with my luck tomorrow may turn outto be monday
ian52

Its definatly going to look the part and with the K04's it wont be shy either. Ill just need to get your old bits on mine before i go up the road to get them painted. That will be fun in tghe cold.
icelightblue1

After four nights and no sleep the rear 1/4's went on.

H8CAK

Mate you have put a lot less of the rs4 rear quart in that usual?
H8CAK

icelightblue1

Hi Carl,

The guy whom did this for me insisted that the welding be kept to the most mninmal to avoid any sort of distortion. With 40 years of panel beating experience beehind him.. I was not going to argue with him and he did a really good job IMO, you can not see any of the welds or cut lines at all.
icelightblue1

I am having some rear bumper issues. Does anybody know what the procedure to fit a rear bumper onto a widebody?

Hi Aiden,

I am after the procedure to mod the current standard s4  bumper to fit the wide arch

kind regards

Bim
quattronutter

a hot air gun is your friend...you can space the bumper brackets away from the body slightly to hold the bumper out, warm the bumper and shape it,will need shaping and filler to get it right then
icelightblue1

The panels have been painted now and have put on the wheels.

the wheels are on 255 rubbers so had to buy a set of H&R hub centric spacers for the wheels to clear the suspension arms.

I'll get some better quality pictures later on but for now here are some taken from my phone.

Next week I plan to get the rear bumper sorted out.
AdamS4

And lower it !!!!

Very nice job tho   . How much did it cost you all in for the widebody conversion if you don't mind me asking ?
icelightblue1

AdamS4 wrote:

how much do you think it should go down by?

I would budget around £4K for a conversion inc parts with the Rear 1/4 panels being the greatest expense. I was really lucky and was able to source every part second hand so was able to save some money.
icelightblue1

Question for you all?

coil overs or lowering springs on original suspension?
StumpyRS4

Would suggest lowering springs, unless your suspension needs replacement, for now at least.

Save some money and if you need the coilies, get 'em next year...

Would drop -30mm ??
icelightblue1

I have lowering springs and RS4 dampers on mine but I do have coilovers to go on when the widebody is done...

I just wasn't happy not being able to adjust the height.

That's the dilemma I am facing, what set up are you putting on Mark?

Hows your project coming on?
MarkB

I'm fitting Eibach's.

I'm waiting on a few parts before I start on the car itself but I've been preparing the panels ready to go on. Should be starting proper next week or week after

But that will have it's own thread rather than cluttering up yours... I must say yours is coming on well
pegbox7

Looks fantastic, any chance of a before and after photo !!!

I am also going to do a wide body conversion in 2010......This thread has been an inspiration...........
H8CAK

Coilovrs all day long. U can adjust it to where u want it then. Ive got H&R on mine.

Mark, Carl

Thanks for the advice ..looking for some Coilovers now

The costs just keep going up ... thinking i should of just started a coke habit instead
ian52

I think the s4 would be more fun and you will have something to show for your money at least.
icelightblue1

Went to the dealer today to order the door trim for the car..... They quoted me £450 for four bits of what is essentially plastic. WTF...
StumpyRS4

Welcome to the RS tax...
icelightblue1

I am in the wrong business me thinks...
H8CAK

Why didnt u just use your original door trim?
ian52

What door trim is it?
icelightblue1

H8CAK wrote:

I sold them on to a fellow srs member along with most of the s4 parts i took off

it's ok now, i found a pair at a breakers.... £40
ian52

How some of your old bits look now.

Still got the door trims to do yet.
MarkB

Looks good. I'm tempted to get an early A4 to stick all my bits on... nice update
ian52

That wing looks far worse with the camera light than it actualy is. Its a 1.8t quattro sport so not a million miles away from an s4,just a bit slower ha ha.

no    got the back end to do  still. to make things worse I found out today that a pot hole incident a couple of months ago caused the car subframe to shift off center ontop of a oil leak that nodoby seems to have a clue where its coming from. they deduced that it's not the turbo (drivers side) but I have a small leek which is annoying me sensless now

for the rear I am in two minds between a B7 or B5 rear bumper?

still got headlights and other things to get on as and when they become available

It will be ready by summer
