Knock knock

Who's there.

Recently this week noticed more and more, like odd feeling within the car how it's driving.

So first off if crusing and giving it the beans from 60 upwards and let off the throttle I get this winding down vibration judder very slight to make this clear not violent in the pedal, feels up front, spoken with techs and the like, I'm pinning it on discs either warped or very poor inner face. Any other ideas.

Another bugging feeling is when changing gear clutch in and out I get this knocking from the rear to me the diff slapping around, and feels like the gearbox is moving more in the shifter. Guessing replace out diff carrier bushes and transmission mounts. But I fear the worst like the prop shaft slapping around causing back lash.

Sounds like centre prop mount.

Would it give the feeling when changing gears like your sometimes slipping. I can get the car up on a ramp and check the mounts before I just go wild and replace everything.
Aragorn

the whole driveline mountings wear out, if they've not been done you'll need the whole lot replacing.
Madpugger

So all drivetrain being the gearbox mounts, diff, guess engine mounts what else snub mount. Just done all my front arms knew I need to do my rear arms.

So what do folk recommend doing, the car is a daily driver so just needing advice which mounts to go for
rs4 gearbox mounts or 034 street density
Guessing any form of uprated snub mount
Motor mount guess rs4 or a street density
And the diff would folk suggest the uprated one with carrier also.
Subframe when it comes to it rs4 not solid mount
And rear arms guess street bushes

I'm doing my exhaust soon down pipes also so guess then I can do diff and gearbox, wait till I collect rear end refresh parts. And the motor mounts when the engine comes out for turbos in the future.

Guess prop shaft go for centre bearing first before joints

It depends how you like your car to ride tbh, lots of differing opinion on this subject but I've decided to go OEM everything bar 034 snub mount, purely because it is a far superior design than OEM IMHO.

Think I've made my mind up now, if daily driven and prob never going to be tracked, what's the point for me to upgrade to stiffer mounts if they will increase vibration.

Am I right in thinking I can fit rs4 mounts to the s4. I read someone doing this for subframe mounts, will I see any benefit going to rs4 on the gearbox diff etc over s4 ones
Aragorn

I bought 2.5tdi gearbox mounts, they seemed heavier duty than the S4 ones but super cheap. IIRc the RS4 uses the same ones as the S4. You might need to swap the little dish things though as the S4 ones are shallower.

Engine mounts probably RS4 is your best bet, dear though.

Rear diff mounts will want renewed as well.
Shamx1166

What rear diff mounts .. rs4 or 2.5tdi Q will fit??

Blew my downpipes and thinking of a drive train refresh too
While gettin zorst fitted.

Can't stand a drag strip set up on a road car especially with our lovely roads

Oem feel ftw well at least on Rd;)

Hope you get it all fixed Madpugger.

Who sells on here again the rear end refresh kit. Assuming that's all bushes for the arse I need.

The roads up here are shocking hence harsh ride don't fancy lol trying to elinate it not make it harsher

Jason at Allgermanparts is your man! 👍
Aragorn

the refresh kit jason does doesnt touch the drivetrain mounts, only the wishbones/suspension.

All the rear diff mounts are the same, the RS4 didnt get upgraded ones. I suspect those will be dealer only.
aidank1981

Jason can still supply dealer only parts at very competitive rates so my comment still stands, he does offer a rear kit which is handy but worth speaking too for everything!
