MarkB's Widebody S4 Saloon build... target 500PS - 700NM

It's official...  I've started!

The car is in the garage and I'm swapping panels today!!!!

viperbl

I need to sit down, gone light headed here ...
carpy

Good work. I'd love to do this to mine but too much ££££

Any chance you could tally up the exact cost once it's all finished?
Nudenut

Good luck with it Mark, keep us posted...

Hope you have a heater in that garage!!

Thanks chaps.
graemep

Looking forward to seeing the end result
SJS

Good luck with the build!!  Have you got the Eibach suspension on yet?  Whats your thoughts?  Dont need to put them on this thread if it clogs it up!  Been toying with this upgrade for a while but getting married this year and funds may be diverted elsewhere (
StumpyRS4

Cracking good stuff... I love these conversions...
And the ensuing banter that will undoubtedly follow in due course!

MarkB

aposegil wrote:

I'm doing the bolt on bits then Aidan @ Bahnstorm Tuning will be doing the rear 1/4's and painting it all.

Then back to me again for all the remaining mechanical work.
MarkB

DavidT wrote:

Thanks, same colour. Might get it wrapped in the future...

How long??? About a month for all the body work and then a 'while' after for the engine work. I have a target of April, but might slip to May.
StumpyRS4

Which year ?

Unfair of me to post such a remark actually, as I'm only jumping on the bandwagon of teasing you for some apparent procrastination...

Edit: Please delete my post...

Thanks, I've slowed now to a stop. Back to work tomorrow unless snowed in LOL.

Be back on it Thursday whatever though
pegbox7

Looking good, interested in how you get on as i have a full RS4 kit sat at home gathering dust, so i will be watching closely on how easy it is...OR not as the case may be !!
MarkB

The only thing I'm stuck on so far is the rear arch liners.

I think I need to remove some suspension to get them out

and I don't seem to be able the shift the rear bumper...
H8CAK

It does go together quite quickly TBH. Myself and Aidan did both front doors, wings, skirts and bumper in an afternoon. Its just like a big jigsaw
MarkB

The trim on the doorsteps is also being a pain. Though I expect some direct heat will ease the glue.
Graham

Good to see progress. I missed this thread, didn't think it was Mark's when I saw the title!

RS4Jules

Looking good,i hope all go's to plan.

I love wide bodied S4's

Jules
MarkB

Thanks. About to crack on again...
MarkB

It's amazed me how many leaves I've been carrying around in the car...

and anyone know what this is for?

I'm going to clean up underneath whilst I'm doing all this work, should save some weight removing the excess mud

Did a bit more weight saving yesterday and removed the N249 vacuum tank

Just the driver door window frame to refit, swap out the rear door and that's it, I'm done for the day
H8CAK

Thats the carbon filter mark
MarkB

bluebrakes

good project there mark.

Keep the picture documentary coming.
OuTTlaw

Really enjoying following this and the pictures are  great, keep up the good work. Peter
MarkB

Thanks

I'm having a day off today. Some of my parts that were due have been delayed because of the snow
docurley

To see my old parts getting a new lease of life and I now have a tear in my eye.

All I have to look at of my old car is this.

MarkB

I hope I do it justice. It was your car that inspired me many years ago!

As I'm sure it has for others also...
docurley

I'm glad she lives on in a way.

Theose new weight saving measures have been taken tad too far in my opinion...!!

Took mine out the other day to make a bit of space for the wheel arch liner to be moved out a little to clear the 235s better. looking good, handy having the lake silver parts to bolt on!!!
OuTTlaw

docurley how come you had to break your car? from your sig pic it looks a stunner, I recon mark if you go by that pic you'll be running around in a stonking motor.Peter
docurley

Car was stolen then trashed.

http://audisrs.com/ftopic2123-0-asc-30.php
OuTTlaw

Shocking to see. Cant believe there were any parts left! Peter
MarkB

Heater is on. Thermometer is showing nearly 5deg in the garage now so time to crack on...

Updates to follow.
H8CAK

Look foward to some more pics.
MarkB

Here you go then...

I slaked off early the other day and didn't actually do the last door.

The rear doors are easy to swap as the wiring terminates at the door pillar

Drivers door needs some work on the alignment.

Though OK when closed.

bluebrakes

how are doing the quarter panels?
MarkB

bluebrakes wrote:

quattronutter is doing them for me and painting the car
pegbox7

looking good...keep those pics coming !!

Is that an RS4 interior in a saloon ?
H8CAK

No its a Saloon recaro interior he got from me But i have a rs4 int in my saloon
MarkB

pegbox7 wrote:

S4 Recaro interior.
pegbox7

are they the same, just has RS4 instead of recaro embossed on it ?
MarkB

pegbox7 wrote:

Yes, mine just have Recaro on them. RS4 has RS4 also.

And mine are saloon seats in the rear.
H8CAK

The rs rears also have the center headrest and propper center seat belt
MarkB

H8CAK wrote:

As do S4 Avant Recaro's
pegbox7

any problems so far with the panel fitment etc ?

How have you done the doors, swapped all in one or changed over just the frames ?
H8CAK

MarkB wrote:

So they do!
MarkB

Alignment seems good on 3 of the doors. The drivers door needs some work, as shown in the picture.

I've stripped them back to metal door shell and the windows in the frames that came with them had been smashed.

I've also taken the handles out to make the paintwork better.
pegbox7

will you have to paint the whole car or just down both sides and the bumpers ?
MarkB

It's all being painted apart from the roof.
buzzard

are you not going for the black roof look mark?
MarkB

buzzard wrote:

Nope. Agreed it does look good but I prefer to heat reflective ability of the silver roof.
scoobydood

Yep.... need to cater for our scorching summers

Newspaper today says we are entering a mini ice age.... and that the global warming scientists were wrong. Let's not start that debate here though!
JohnnyB

If your painting the rest of the car for the little extra work seems daft not to paint the full car. Silver is a bad colour to match as well.
MarkB

I know but the roof doesn't show against any other panels.

I might still get it done.
