MRC Widebody

The time has come to change my RS4 - I think.

So I am going to build a widebody S4 to replace it with.

I want it to be a bit different so it is going to be a bit wider than the normal ones. I am thinking white, but until i get a few photoshops of our ideas not 100% on that.

I am getting Greg Howell to do all the body work and will get him to do the interior.

Greg half wants to convert it to a 2 door with longer doors and a gt3 style interior with no seats in the back and half cage.

I think I want to have 4 recaro pole postions in it - with the rears blended into the rear seat - not sure how a cage would work with that. All the interior alcantara'd

I thought about putting a 5 cylinder engine in but it sticks out the front too much.

The car I bought has a cambelted engine so it will be getting reworked. I want the car to be an everyday supercar that is driveable. I am not bothered about peak power numbers on this one. I want it to be fast on the road so want lots of torque.I think the spec of my blue S4 with the stage4 bolt on hybrids was nearly there, and is all bolt on parts. Milkybar spec is awesome, and I think that spec with bigger heads is the best all rounder for 600bhp/600ft'lb

I have 4 calipers from an R8 ceramic kit that I will be fitting to the front and rear on 400mm discs.

We are waiting to see if bilstein will do a remote height adjustble kit for the car.

So if anyone wants my b5 rs4 or my S2 make me a silly offer and i might let them go!

THe donor car: Full silver leather interior for sale, Doors, rear bumper and wheels or sale

shobe

boo i wanted the first widebody white s4

But good luck and look forwards to seeing updates
quattronutter

2 door with extra fat arches would be good!
big mac

do the 2 door thing doug norris designs did it with an evo and it looked the b*llocks
MilkybarKid

Have been thinking 2 door for mine also so this will be a very interesting thread.
Have kind of got used to the power in mine and was thinking bigger heads and inlet mani for mine but it is ridiculously driveable.

What affect on where the power band is do you think the heads would make?
Doug

Let me find a plot of your spec car on rs4 heads.
Ben H

Sounds awesome, looking forward to progress updates...
Doug

compare this one to yours Lewis:

MilkybarKid

vs
(Unfinished map at top end )
Doug

a good 500-700pm laggier on the rs4 heads.

S4 heads are good for making a car a lot less laggy. Lets get your map tweaked lewis and see if you are happy with that.

Maybe a fully ported and reworked S4 head job would be a good compromise.
MilkybarKid

Aye that looks good.
Not sure about white, but would be good to see some shopped pictures.
How are you going about getting the extra wide wings?
Flaring RS ones?
What width wheels you thinking?
scoobydood

Sorry - are we comparing std s4 heads to rs4 heads here?

I am curious as I already have RS4 heads and with a turbo swap playing around in my mind (tial 605s?) - I am wondering if the heads are going to be a noticeable plus.
Doug

It is gregs job to add the extra width in the flares, space the sills out and widen the bumpers.

Greg wants 11" wide wheels - i have 20" x10" wheels to try as a mock up and see where we go from there.
Doug

milkys spec is almost identical to the rs4 spec in the above 2 plots - only differnece is the heads.

If you find your plot anthony, try and find someone at the same spec on the same dyno with stock heads and see the lag difference with ko4s.
scoobydood

Oops. While typing my question the answer was already posted!

Thanks Doug.

If RS4 heads are laggier - that's interesting because on my pj k04 it doesn't seem any laggier (470 lb/ft @ 3200) than many of the k04s with S4 heads. I am assuming only comes into play with bigger turbos?

I only really compared zerok66 and mine - which is obviously not the same spec as he has p&p k04 and tubular manifolds. I will see what else I can find.
MilkybarKid

Yes dood, in those 2 plots the differences are heads, + mine will probably take away those bumps in the hp line once mapped, and reach 550 i recon.

im not unhappy with mine dont take the unfinished comment the wrong way!
its unfinished and its producing that ^
will give you a shout re map when i have made it a bit safer ie brakes

11" of rubber should help put the power down!
scoobydood

milkybar - do you reckon 550 is the limit on s4 heads?
buzzard

So looking forward to the Photoshop pics.
Keep thinking outside the box doug.
It really does keep things interesting.
mikey-s

That'll be an awesome car Doug. You've gotta do it pearl white like the UR Quattro!
scoobydood

Agreed pearl white would be amazing.
MilkybarKid

not sure dood, will see what Doug comes up with
itll probably depend on the turbos etc aswell.
Pearl white... hmmm that could work, difficult to photoshop that though id imagine
Ash25

Cool idea doug, looks like it will turn out into a lovely car with the extra width. i toyed around with it too, but wasn't sure how to do it without adding bits to the arches, but will be interesting how greg does it. spacing the sills looks promising.

and 11" wheels....nice.

hope to get some looks at the photoshopped car once people get on it!

Good luck with the build mate

Ash
Doug

I think it is cut the arch off add metal and put back on but that is for the expert to decide on how to do it exactly.

The S4 widebody club is growing. Frank from france should be bringing his custom gt28 turbod widebody over to the srs meet

mikey-s

Did the silver car belong to Stark? He posted recently about a cambelt failure..
Doug

yes
mikey-s

I guess he sh*t himself when he heard the dealers repair costs!
Doug

Does anyone have pictures of white widebody S4s so I can get some photoshops done.
mikey-s

Some on here: http://enformulation.com/vag/wb/

How about shortening the whole shell quattro-sport style? Norris Designs did a similar thing with their green EVO.

I like the sound of that! Good call    Go on Doug, you know it makes sense.
Juice

theres a white s4 body ive seen a pic of looks stunning and hes sitting on lambo wheels (unsure if they are orignal but they look wide) and the wheels are white too.

will go and try and find it.

I like the white but the black roof makes it look like a cabrio me no likey
DavidT

I'll move this to the 'Projects & Builds' Forum
Juice

Thanks virdee, thats the one

Matt_D

Holy shit that white S4 is seriously sexy

How about half a pack of haribo, one left leg and £24.71 cash ?
aposegil

doug going to love this before it's built

I would shorten it about 5" and three door

We should have our own club

Looking forward to how the gt28 one performs

I'd never have thought I'd hear you say the above Doug.

My ideal was to getting my S4 heads ported, but money and time won't be letting me do this Can't wait to see how yours works out

Will it be ready for the RR day??
A20 LEE

quick chop.  Not sure about white tho'.

StumpyRS4

That is freaking phater than a phat thing in a room full of phat things...

Question though - having mahoosive wheels like that, although it looks stupidly awesome, will it not tramline like an absolute mutha ??
Doug

A20 LEE wrote:

It is not a definate on white. When i see widebody in black like this i wonder about black:

I have a customer with a black widebody and LMs so it is already been done like this.
quattronutter

black is the new white changing mine to black soon
frazered

white would be rubbish!  don't do it!

Sprint Blue!!
scoobydood

Have to say.... that black b5 is possibly the most 'modern' looking b5 I have ever seen!
StumpyRS4

White's lovely, but really in your face.
Black is just class - end of.

I am not a shorty fan.
StumpyRS4

Looks better 'normal' length IMO...
Virdee

That white photchop of the 2 door one Lee did looks awesome!

2 door short will have to be done right, as it might not look proportionate (sp)

Doug - is that Andrew Neaves' car? Looks really sweet if it is.
sal_s2

Suzuka grey
Tom_S4

Doug, finish it in gloss black and then wrap it in a matt white. It covers the trends, maximises the exposure but at the end of the day you can tear it all off and have that deep mirror finish. Good luck with this project, I'm interested to see what it will look like
stark

Def looking forward to what becomes of the beast Doug, sad to see her go, shall keep track of the progress on here...
Automan

im sure if you have a word with burny's mate nepoo (chop shop (ch:discovery turbo))  im sure he wouldnt mind widening, chopping and changing it for you.. may even do an engine conversion for you if you ask him nicely!!!
s4marsh

i watched them put 6" spacers on a jag earlier...how long do you think the wheel bearings will last?
Alps

Doug, I've got to admit, white RS4's do look DAMN nice but they are a tad in your face. Where as black... ... ... ... well, black will always be the "in" colour... and be classy. I'm not biased, honestly

I say black on black Doug. You know it makes sense.

PS You categorically said you'd NEVER sell your S2.

PPS I'm buying some lotto tickets on Wednesday ;D
Alps

Oh, and it has to be 4 door. The 2 door version looks wrong. It reminds me of those old 2 door hatch back honda's.

http://images01.olx.com/ui/1/21/87/f_1401487_1.jpg
scoobydood

Nah - I like the 2 door (in black). Not so sure in white....
PaulyRS4

In 2 door form it could look a bit like a AMG CLK Black edt. Well done doug about time youe had a widebody in the portfolio!!! It's bound too be very good. Black would be very nice with bbs LM's.
Graham

I'd keep the RS4 over the wide body, coupe or not.

Don't let the S2 go either.
pascal77uk

Chop it looks mint.

Greg is a top man and will do a Proper Job, awesome sprayer. He has done some of my friends cars.
Ash25

i don't think the 'coupe' version looks right.

i did think about maybe if the widebody was a track car then you could weld the the rear doors shut and smooth off the rear handles and this might make it look a bit more coupe like but with out the odd shape problem? obviously won't have access to back seats as our fronts dont go forward but could be ok if got rollcage in it etc.

anyone good at photoshop who could do this?

Also say no to white! black would look awesome

Ash
buzzard

I think he should go on to an A5 and RS it.
StumpyRS4

buzzard wrote:

Now that's more like it!!
chunky79

What they said ^^^. Do what audi should do, before them, and better!
guyvert1

+1 on the A5 shape, but surely its too big/heavy/expensive to work on it ? Nothing wrong with the S4 shape, but careful you don't get sucked into that 'euro' look!
loomx

RS4 coupe will look awesome, do it
StumpyRS4

Re: MRC Widebody

Doug wrote:
I think I want to have 4 recaro pole postions in it

Quick question as it seems topical anyway with everyone wanting Pole Positions, and Doug just being god damned greedy!

With rears, not being adjustable - presumably you could fabricate you're own static sub frames with the carpet up/out?

Presumably therefore you could do that for the fronts?  So long as you're not 5ft or 8ft tall?  For the regular 5ft 9in to say 6ft guys the fronts could be fixed into a relatively sensible position?

Maybe not...???
Paz

Here ya go Stumpy, an online guide to fitting seats . . .

They'll be "a no whupping ass goin on", unless money is to change hands of course...

Paz

Yup lol!
Doug

Engine is out and car goes off to bodyshop this week.

I have been wondering about which way to go with this widebody and my noggy.

I think I am going to merge them into one! So pull the 700bhp engine, upgrade turbos and a few other bits and put it in the widebody. I don't think the car needs to be stripped out to feel quick at these power levels.

The only thing with that is the noggy will be left without a purpose, so I might sell that as a base for a trackcar - if anyone is interested?
StumpyRS4

Excellent news Doug - I've been waiting for an update...

The new WB's gonna be monstrous.

So you're thinking of selling the Noggy complete, minus the engine?
m14rrv

wow sounds like this is going to be a project
JohnnyB

Sounds good Doug look forward to seeing it. How long do you think it will take to do?

Doug

4-6 weeks and bodyshop, 2-3 weeks for trimmers, then I hopefully have new subframes/suspension brakes and engine to throw on when it comes back. then to fab shop for custom exhaust
Virdee

Who's doing the trimming?

Looking really forward to the outcome for the whole project!
Doug

Greg knows someone - i am leaving it in his hands.
Virdee

Cool......and what you planning to do with the trimming?
Doug

I am letting greg and the trimmers decide but 4 buckets and suede/alcantara.
aposegil

and huge bottle of NOS between the two rear seats?
Doug

no nos yet - need to change piston to wall gaps to run dcent anmounts of that!
chunky79

I take it the gap needs to be bigger due to the heat?
Doug

When you use a lot youur egts might go lower but you get more heat transfer into the actual pistons, so they expand more - depending on silicon content of them.

That is why it is common to get scored bores or seized pistons when you run too much for the spec of your car.
chunky79

i take it, when you are going to use it you will use alot!!
Doug

It does not matter how much power you have, it is not enough , if you experience more. So nos to me would mean I would want that 100-150bhp all the time.
chunky79

and the problem?
Doug

nos bottles are too small. I don't want to look like a red bull car with a bottle on the roof..
StumpyRS4

Doug wrote:
