My opinion on the S6 (C6)

Nowadays, the web is infested by pseudo car experts and improvised testers. These individuals have a limited knowledge of cars and flood the cyberspace with useless reviews filled with stereotypes, hollow phrases and buzzwords. One victim of this pathetic circus is the Audi S6 equipped with the FSI 5.2 V10 engine. This pluri-fractionated, naturally aspirated engine is considered a masterpiece by anyone who knows anything about mechanics. It runs as smooth as silk, has a deep, masculine baritone voice, and pushes like hell above 3500 rpm. Drive it in manual, stay in the right gear, and it will not disappoint you. If driven properly, it is not less exciting than the highly acclaimed B7 Audi RS4. In many of the car reviews one finds online, the S6 is grotesquely compared with the BMW M5 or one of the Mercedes AMGs. Anyone having at least one working neuron in the brain knows that the cars above should be compared with the RS6 and not the S6. A S6s real opponent is the BMW 550i, not the M5. And when you do compare the S6 with the 550, well, there is no story; the S6 pulverizes it. Another myth about the V10 is its reliability. If well maintained, the V10 is rock solid, practically indestructible. Comments of this type usually come from people that buy jalopies, cars that have been raped in any possible way, that perhaps have never seen a gallon of decent gasoline, and have never been subjected to a proper service. This said, and in spite of the false prophets, I have recently purchased a 2009 S6 directly from an Audi dealer. I am in love with it. I had driven the Panamera Turbo and the Maserati Granturismo while looking for a car and, as soon as I tested the S6, I knew immediately where to put my money. This version of the S6 is destined to become a future classic. Such engines will hardly be put again in a sedan.

Glad you appreciate it - I'm biased too but I genuinely think its a stunning machine. Rare as rocking-horse s**t, exceptionally understated and, mine being the avant, holds everything I need. Except for the amount of sarcasm that rattles around here...

Well said Travs and your avant is only a few miles away from mine in Twickers!
gizmo

I do like the look of these. Do they suffer from the same problem as B7 RS4's?
Trackside Tripod

Yes I'm afraid they do, they put a smile on the owners face when you turn the key!!

They still carbon up but not as badly as the RS4. You'd probably only need a clean every 50-60k miles in a S6 at the earliest.

Coincidentally, I saw a C6 S6 Avant in Dunstable today... Very elegant and understated, for a big car.

Brilliant cars.. I'd have one tomorrow..  And that's an s4 stage 1+ owner.....

I thought it was a brilliant purchase - had not seen one on the roads ever that I could remember. 2 days after bringing mine home I keeping seeing some bu66er driving past in a black '57 plate one; that'#s not you is it?

Wow, great writeup! I'm new to the forum and this was the first post about the C6 S6 that I've see here. I bought one earlier this week with 121k miles from a guy who took meticulous care of it, but I've been nervous seeing a lot of the negative material online about it. Seeing this post was a great reassurance for me. Thank you so much!

Sounds very much like mine.  Black 57 plate Avant.  I just have 2 small Audisport stickers on the haunches of mine.  Oh and has a Milltek Exhaust, so sounds the part too.

Hmmm....hadn't noticed an exhaust note on this one. Don't say there's a third one in the area?!?
I'll keep a lookout and give you a wave if I see it!

Glad you're happy with it. I don't think there's much bad about them; negative press is just haters being haters. I think it's one of the best compromises between comfort, understated looks and stunning performance you can get.

I don't get many strangers waving at me!

There's only one problem with mine.  I love it to bits but I don't want to put too many miles on it as I think it's going to be a classic and start rising soon.  The good news is that I'm cycling more so getting fitter too.

Overall, I'd say it's a good alternative to yoga or going to the gym and is contributing to this human's general well being!  Well done Audi!!
morginator

Had mine checked for carbon build up at my local Audi specialist and he confirmed no signs at all. Had to have 10 new spark plugs though and full service and it sings beautifully to me every morning
philipwalker

Had two
Started with a 2007 S6, sold for RS5, sold for a 2010 S6.
Tells a story.....
