New R8 Few Questions

Hi Guys and Hopefully Girls

Basically hoping for some help here.

Trying to find some female input on the R8?

My sister is very keen on an R8 but i am not sure it is the right car for her, i think she is only looking at the visual appearance of the car and nothing else.

She currently drives an SLK55 but IMO does not use the performance but does however like the noise of the engine and exhaust and also the roof down facility.

So are there many female owners? If so how do you find the car?
Or perhaps do any of you chaps let the Mrs take the car out?

How will an R8 cope with very low mileage and short journeys? Her commute to work is less than a mle, will the car have issues?

How good is the soft top?

Looking at the 4.2 Manual either Spyder or Coupe

Thanks for any advice and suggestions

Welcome!
Cant answer any of your questions lol but there is a guy by the name of DK with an R8 that.....hmmmm...might be a bit loud for your mate unless she's deaf!

...come on DK, unleash the ASBO
aka_dk

its a very usable super car for an experienced driver

but not for your town shopper female imo

the 4.2 is not good for short journey's, it needs regular reving to the red line when the oil is hot

a TT is better for her

that what my missus drives

TT-RS soft top?

Hey Shan,

My Mrs has driven mine without issue BUT they aren't the easiest to manoeuvre/park etc and as said before not good for short journeys, the car would never even warm up the oil like that sadly.

Cheers for the replies guys

As suspected the mileage and short journey's is going to be an issue.

Looks like i am going to have to break the news to her somehow lol

Shame is she lovely the look of it.

Might try and get her to look at the TT RS

The short mileage won't be ideal for the SL55, or any car. But we're not talking about a modern deisel where the thing would clog it's DPF and actually break.

I would hazard a guess that any detriment that might come of it would be unoticeable to her and not relevant in the period she owns the car.

Unless that mile or so takes about 15mins the car won't let her rev past about 4k until warm, my V10 can take near 20mins to reach operating temp in this cold weather and restricts to shy of 6k.
