New RS3 - AutoGlym LifeShine & Audis GAP insurance?

Hi all,

I'll be collecting my new baby fairly soon.. the Audi salesman is trying to flog me Gap insurance at 1700 for 3 years and AutoGlym's Lifeshine protection at 199.

I guess I'll give the GAP insurance a miss.. probably find something cheaper online.  But with the Auto Glym Lifeshine protection.. would anyone out there say it's worth getting?

Or can anyone recommend a good mobile car valet service with the same products but a cheaper price ?

Thanks
BennyBoo

I'm not too sure on the deatails of Audi's GAP insurance.. but at 533.33p per year isn't tooo bad..?

And welcome to the site!

Haha.. found some other companies do it at a fraction of a price.. and covers the GAP insurance up to 15K...

Howabout the Lifeshine? that worth it?

Lifeshine is not really a "bad" product but most (if not all) dealers don't take the time to apply it correctly and hence most of it ends up on eBay and the like, plus they'll tell customers they're getting it free but do 4 cars with the same kit!

Get a reputable detailer to complete a new car prep, at the dealership on the day you collect. Now a lot of dealers don't like this but tuff!

My mate instructed MB to not even unwrap his C63 after delivery, they still did and were mighty upset (so was he) when my detailer put a light gun over the car and found a few nasty scratches and imperfections!!

I had gap insurance thrown in for free after declining the offer once we had agreed a deal on my S6.

The cost listed on my invoice is 299 for 3 years cover on a purchase price of 17k.

The salesman said that including it and effectively discounting the car by a further 299 was worth more to him in bonuses at the end of the month.

Agree with nudenut on life shine - nothing wrong with product but most garage employed cleaning folk don't have the time/inclination to do the job properly

A full paint correction on an Audi that's been around a good while will cost about 500-600 so on a brand new car would be money well spent to protect it properly and get a layer or 3 of wax on it for the winter roads

My GAP insurance too was 299 for 3 years and purchase price of 26k

Sounds like the purchase price is irrelevant on the policy then; if thats the case tee-bee's quote of 1700 is a complete rip-off.

I'm guessing i'm wrong in thinking this is actual insurance then!?

Yikes.. Just read up on what it is and that seems a little excessive haha!

Gap at 1700??? LOL!!!! Thats crazy mate! at most it would be 600-700?

Paint protection I would not bother with! Save the money and buy some wax etc and protect it properly yourself.

protect the car yourself with autoglym HD wax is my adivce. As the for the GAP, it's a good product but 1700 is a rip off. I sell GAP for 349/299. As you've already mentioned you can find it cheaper online, just check the exclusions and max payout info as the dealer ones generally cover more and have more going for them. Also on a lot of dealer GAPs there is the option to split it over 12 months at 0%. A 299 Gap policy works out at 12 payments of 24.92 and will obviously last the full 3 years.

Hey all,

Thanks so much for the feedback.. 1700 is an absolute con job.. found this GAP insurer:

https://www.ala.co.uk/

Seems to fit the bill pretty well cost wise.. under 200 for 3 years and covers upto 20,000!

With regards to car protection

http://www.permagard.co.uk/

Anyone tried the above..?
Graham

Find out at what age your insurers wouldn't replace the car with a brand new one (if you can).

Approach the GAP cover like all non-mandatory insurance. Only take the cover if you can't afford not to, or the premium is insignificant compared to a likely payout. At 1700 the latter does not seem to apply.

Looks handy if you want to dry-line a basement - not convinced their products would be any use on your paintwork though

Oops..

I meant this site:

had a quick look at the ALA cover and it seems to cover most things, just check if your car insurance will offer new for old and if so see if you find a deferred GAP policy which will start after the first year of ownership. as for the permagard, never heard of it, if you want something like that, Safegard is what you want. Although these products are half decent, you can't beat professional valeting/detailing products, like autoglym HD wax etc.

Hey there,

When for ALA for GAP.

Got the RS3 for a day and loving every moment of it.. waiting for Magic Valet to book me in for this Saturday for some stunning car detailing...

Superb, be sure to share some pics once it's clean!
