Newish car to the family

We got a 2nd car a couple of months ago, the stars aligned and an RS2 came up for sale and it has a very interesting history as well.

Its meant to be a prototype car

(from other people who know the car)

"The thing about this car is that it doesn't show on Audis system. The car came in direct from Porsche and as such they never used Laser Red but instead a Guards Red. It is quite different if you see it near a Laser red car. And the repaint was done in Guards Red also."

"Arrived from Porsche directly and was registered as a German import, but RHD. The stamped chassis number on bulkhead is not like any other Audi stamping, I believe it is either a special build or a RHD development car from Porsche factory. The chassis number is only 10 digits long and looks hand stamped. It doesn't show up on ELSA or ETKA as a valid chassis number. "


"... it was imported into NZ by EMD as a used vehicle imported done aroun 22,000kms, not from Audi but from Porsche (in Germany) who offered it after internal use and mileage. What that use was, and why they would have wanted a RHD car is beyond me. But the car is a 1994, and it was first registered in October 2005 in NZ, and if you look at the carjam report it had an early plate change (maybe someone didnt like the "666" number). Another interesting point is that between its first WOF in NZ and its second it hadnt done a km for 307 days. Some other interesting points about this car are, it has the early 4 spoke steering wheel (all NZ new had the sportier 3 spoke), its has indicators on the guards (again NZ new ones didnt), it has Audi badges on the front guards (I dont know of any RS2;s to have this) ...."

thanks man , been on the forum for a while reading (I don't say much!)

noticed your sweet rides though! (it was one of the options , to go bigger C5 RS6) now you've moved up to the V10 = epic!  that colour on the c5 was amazing - if it was in NZ I would have tried it on

Couldn't resist the old school 2 though!  and I'd have to say if I was looking for a 3rd (which is divorce material) , I'd probably go down the UR path.

the 4th would def be a B7 RS4!  

yeah, the wife is learning to drive.  she's spent most her time getting the basics in a mates Toyota Corolla but now it's time to get stuck into the cars she'll actually be driving.  seems to be going really well (although its relatively hard to stall the RS4!)

I've known pre-production BMWs appear in right hand drive - after all when they do test builds/development work they need to do both to test all systems that are different.

I had a 740 come direct from BMW for testing in the UK - it was FULL UK spec but didn't leave Germany till it was 3 years old.  Even had mph speedo.

The 740 had to be crushed rather than sold on when we'd finished with it as it allegedly didn't meet BMW production standards and could've been a liability - shame really as it never let us down in testing.

I would've thought an e-mail to Audi and/or Porsche in Germany would yield some info on its history, based on VIN?

there's a guy in NZ who loves RS2s who's doing some hunting.  asking contacts on other forums who are in turn asking people in Germany \ Porsche.  I've not heard anything back though.
