Not a great write-up from PH on the R8 GT

It's got 35hp more, weighs 100kg less and has a more track-oriented set-up. Sounds promising, but does the hardcore R8 GT deliver?

Maybe we're getting complacent, but in this age of near-flawless supercars it's a bit of a shock to find one that, quite possibly, is a bit crap. A big shock, too, that it has an Audi badge on the front.
Before going too far down that road let's be clear: most of the Audi R8 GT isn't crap. Far from it...

Opinions? Anyone even seen one yet?

Love it.

I found the e-gear (r-tronic) gearbox on the Gallardo really good. But I was road driving, not track.

I was very excited to see the mention of maybe a dual clutch setup coming to the R8 but I don't think it will happen before the next model.

facelift will get the S-tronic

i dont think it really matters what the review says ... there's only 33 of them in the UK and the customers were specifically chosen by Audi UK

Ha, so that makes it a fairly insignificant review then? Still, interesting read. I'd still have one.

its because its an Audi.... not scene as suitable for such badge company.

when ever a BMW is up against an Audi on ANY roadtest, the Beemer already has 5/10 just for turning up.

I just admire the pictures ( of the Audi)    Being Audi's first high performance car in this league, give them chance to iron out any niggles and 99.9% of drivers isnt gifted with the talent or facilities to explore that edge of the performance envelope.....

30 years later how many of these other sports cars will still be running?????

I think my R8-GT is great, you cant keep everyone happy. You have to drive it and get used to its ways. I have a 997 Gen2 Turbo which is fast, but the GT is in a league of its own.

9.5/10

Matt, when am I going to get my grubby mitts on it then!!!!

Pop your thoughts up on it on the PH site, would love to see what they have to say. Although I think there is a whole lot of Porker and BMW loving going on over there...

Bit of a strange review, I thought. Seems to want to say something different from what's expected but lacks any real substance to go with it.

The criticism stems from "I went into a corner too fast so I don't like it".

Not just that - "I went into a corner too fast AND HAD THE GEARBOX IN AUTOMATIC so I don't like it".

Interesting to see in the comments that a dual-clutch system would add 50kg in weight, seems huge to me and a plus for the R-Tronic.

I'd still have one.
Like the rear of this machine, they look awesome as is, but something about this does enhance it rather well.

Lambo claim the new Aventador box is significantly lighter than S-Tronic/PDK but every day usability is neccesary with the R8 and I can't help but thinking it would be worth the weight penalty for the massively improved gear change. Porsche (and to a slightly lesser extent Audi themselves) seem to have made these boxes work well in high power output applications too.
