Pearl white WR

I've been looking for a nice Quattro for a while, I was wondering what you lads make of this one currently on Ebay at the moment. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/1987-AU...ash=item3cd66b37a5#ht_1471wt_1399
Cheers.

Looks very nice mate, if I had the money I may have beat you too it

Don't like the steering wheel though, other than that

guymcc

Wow that's some interior, would put me off tbh!  By the way have you won the lottery or something Lewis? Lol
Norrs2

Indeed, a rare Tressor model. Very nice!!

Minor observations:- (not sure how picky you want to be)

Door ring decals are not entirely correct in their positioning

Audi badge for left hand side of boot missing.

I know it should have had Tressor wheels, but standard Pearl White cars left the factory with Pearl White wheels also (maybe not to your taste anyway).

Pin striping is missing (you can still buy the kits from Switzerland)

Pearl White is a complete bitch and totally impossible to match. Slight dent on a panel and you can't just repaint that panel, it's at least the whole side and could still be off the colour of the rest of the car. It's really difficult to replicate the pearl effect from the factory, this one looks like it doesn't have enough pearl coat and this makes it look a bit more white than 'normal' if there is such a thing.

Hence the above, for that value, you'd have to be absolutely sure all rust has been cut out / repaired completely with no chance of it coming back, or it'll be likely you'll have to do it all again. A proper Pearl paint job on one of these is at least £5k, so not sure what standard they've do e here, claiming £3.5k for all work.

Been lying, has timing belt/water pump been done?

Good points:-

Interior looks really mint and personally, I love it!!

Headlamps look like new (difficult and expense to replace because NLA)

It's a Tressor, so 250bhp instead of 200. Rare as fook!!

Good investment if it really is 'that good'

In general, it looks a really good example, but the big worry is "what's under that new paint"?????

Mechanicals and appropriate road test / underneath all need checked! Must take someone that knows these cars to go with you (could be arranged for you)

It's worth that all day if you could be given evidence that metal repairs were cut out and not just rubbed down and treated with rust eater, or it will come back!!! Major headache to put right.

Lovely looking potential opportunity Lewis!!!  Any other questions pleasefire away.

Mine with pearl wheels and stripes so you can compare:-

I would say it now appears compulsory to own a ur if you have a rs4 and live in Scotland .  Lol.

Let me think about that would love to but I just don't think Jane would feel so happy about that.
quattrokid

I thought siblings are supposed to share their toys ?

SO... those who hasn t got a Ur yet but has a B5 RS4 your task is to find and buy one by the summer so when Uncle Stormin Norman has his annual RS weekend we have to choose which chariot to bring

I'm not a fan of that interior but each to their own.
If I had the space, time and money to store one away for dry days I'd have another at the drop of a hat, I loved mine....

I want one

Get it, you'll love it.

Going back to the original question. Go take a look with somebody who knows what to look for in a ur. Then just buy it so we all up here can see that interior in the flesh.
pjbRs

Wow! Car porn.

Norrs that is a beautiful looking example you got there.

looks stuning mate
mikey-s

A mate has recently been to see that white Quattro,  said some panels were rippled,  with filler in places,  and not running right as it was totally gutless.  Didn't seem to want to budge on the price yet offered peanuts for the S4 that was being offered as part ex.
Lewis

Cheers for the input Norrs, I absolutely love your car beautiful !! I am trying to build my dream garage collection consisting of my B5 RS4, a nice UR Quattro and an RS2 although I've never seem a white one before which doesn't matter as I favour the Ragusa Green. I'm moving house this year and have already designed the garage around these cars. Another good thing I noticed the garage is called Volkservice which would point to these chap mainly looking after VAG cars, the car is in Blackpool are any if you UR guys in that area? Again getting ahead of myself as I'm not home until the 11th of March by which time the car will no doubt be sold, if it's not I will buy it if it's as good as it looks.
P.S my Dad had a couple of these in the eights the first he bought brand new from Hawco up North, red with black leather I still remember the reg C100YST is there a register on here with existing UR's
Cheers lads

Ah ha didn't see Mikey's post, that's a shame looked like a good one, ah we'll the UR hunt continues
Norrs2

Cheers Lewis!

After seeing Mikey's post (well done for that), run a mile from this car.  Mechanicals can be relatively easy to fix, but a Pearl White car with 'ripples and filler' spells future disaster and big ££££ for proper repairs and paint. To do a proper Pearl job with the 'correct' base coat (it's a 3 stage - Base/Pearl/Clear)is about £1,200 in materials alone.  Shame, this car looked promising.  It's also not worth anything like that given what Mikey's mate saw.

On the RS2 subject, there is 1 only Pearl White UK car.  It was actually sold by Hawco in Inverness.  The car was also sold as a used car there back in 2002.  I was desperate for it but coudn't afford it at the time.  It's now in the south of England somewhere.

In respect of finding you a ur, I will keep a look out on the quattro owners club forum (members only access unfortunately) as good members cars with all the required history pop up from time to time and a much better bet than something from a car dealer.  A good quattro will give you mostly trouble free motoring, a bad one will mug your bank account.  If you were looking at this car at that value, that is an excellent budget to get a proper mint 10v WR/MB car with none of the issues of this one.

There's quite a few differences between the 10 valve WR and MB (MB is much less laggy), this thread will explain them:-

http://audisrs.com/about46040.html

Will keep my eye open for you mate.

PS, is there a colour preference or any no no's?

It's a 10v MB and now long out of my ownership. I still get goosebumps thinking about it.
It's now owned by someone oop north, well it was when I sold it a few years ago.

Don't know how you are about colours yet, but I just had a brain fart and remembered that a mate of mine in the qoc was going to sell his for about the same money as the Pearl one.  He's had it for years, it's had a proper bare shell repaint about 4 years ago and is still totally rust free which is testament that it was done properly. It's wanted for nothing and is sound mechanically too.  John the owner has total OCD and the car is totally mint.  Only non standard thing on it, is the Steering Wheel from a 20v (which is nice) and a SS Sport Exhaust. It's quite a rare colour - Lago Blue Met.  It's the rarest MB 10v Model.

Anyway, here's some recent pics and if you're interested (as it's not currently been advertised) I can give him a shout for you.  I know he still has it.

Yes and no. I really didn't have the space. Although it was garaged I was way too paranoid of driving it and panicked if anyone came near.

I remember shouting mentally at someone at work who placed his motorbike helmet on the bonnet while he got ready to mount!! I swore a lot!!
Then my Daughters friend opened up a can of Coke in the back and I overreacted slightly

What I would say to anyone thinking of getting one is to research your prey. Not just the car but the current owner or company it's for sale with. Some background of their sales history or maybe what they do for a living.

Have they been able to afford the upkeep or pay for genuine parts when required? These aren't cars to run on a budget so I'd like to see that it has been kept in a style to which it should be accustomed to.

Check check and check again.

A proper quattro nut then!!

I can only imagine your reaction at the biker foolishly doing that.

Yes, all very good advice there!

The car I posted above fits all that criteria, it's a well know car in the quattro community and the owner has spared no expense maintaining it to the highest standard, so I can fully endorse this car based on my knowledge of it.

The thing about ur's at the moment, is that they seem to have dried up in terms of availability.  There hasn't really been that much out there for about a year now.

'Good' 10 valve cars have gone up by about 50% in the last 18 months. Where you could get a very good restored MB 2 years ago for £10k, you're now looking at £15+ for the same car.

Good 20 valve cars are now in the low to mid £20+k bracket.  I know of a Tornado Red one in Aberdeen at the moment with about 70k miles on it, totally orginal mint condition, and the owner want's £26k or he's not selling!

The trouble is, all the best ones are in current ownership and not for sale.  Prices are now encouraging some folk to tart up the lesser ones (like the Pearl one here) with a potential multitude of sins under the freshly painted body, and asking top money.  Hence, you have to tread very carefully indeed as you know.  Parts cars are even £5k these days!!

Still though, there doesn't seem to be all that many of any condition to choose from right now, and prices will continue to creep up for the best ones.

Unfortunately nothing very comprehensive or live out there.  A few have tried in the past but pretty much failed.

If you have any details (model - WR or MB) colour and reg number, I could post on the qoc forum to see if anyone on there has it.

For refererence, of the approx 2,500 RHD quattro's imported into the UK, rough estimates are that less than 1,000 still exist, of which many are not on the road and some will be beyond economical repair.

Regarding the car that the OP has asked about, some things don't seem correct to me .. The headlight washers look odd for that year of car, as does the boot lid - of the '86/87 year cars I had experience with, the washers were more of a small 'over-rider' design and the boot had 2x black badges, not a sticker.
It could well be the pictures and how they are being seen on my PC, but the car looks more alpine white than pearl

You are of course totally correct on both counts, well spotted indeed. Washers should be as the pictures of the other cars on this thread.  That quattro badge on the back is from pre-85 facelift models.

That car should have 2  plastic badges (with a black or silver face) at the back (Audi on the left, quattro on the right), with no Audi rings in the centre.

MB's have 3 Chrome badges which includes the 4 rings in the centre and 20v RR's only have the 4 rings in the centre of the boot with no other badges.

Post 85, it's actually the only way to know which model it is for cross over registrations, i.e.   a D plate can be a WR or MB (also a few Eplate WR's out there) and a G plate can be a MB or a RR.  Badges on the boot will be the only give away externally.

Thanks Norrs2 ;

Sad news is it's not currently showing as taxed on that reg number, DVLA website doesn't recognise the number.  It could be out there on a private plate though.
Vale46

Thats a shame. I think the private plate theory is likely however .. the then new owner seemed to be really taking care of it, although it was many years ago now.
Thank you for looking anyway.

Never known any D plate MB's. E plate can be MB or WR

No mate, Gail's is zermatt silver on a C plate (WR).  This is John Johnson from Sheffield that bought and sold to Stuart's mate's the  Avus RS.

It's a peach ur for sure!

Thanks for your post -
Honestly, I am a little confused however. The info. states ' scrapped + exported' yet there is no date for either. In addition, the DOR is 1/1/87 with 'no previous owners' .. it was an '87 D so this would make sense, but it'd be interesting to know how if owners were possible before it was registered !

No idea,
Bits to note are the "Scrapped? Yes"
This VIN WAUZZZ85ZHA900386 was built between Oct 86/Nov 86
Engine was also Oct 86

OK cheers.
I was only curious as to the accuracy of the 'scrapped' part due to the sketchy nature of the rest.
Appreciate the post.
