Picked up my D2 S8 yesterday in the snow :)

and this is a car you really don't want to use on ice/snow with standard Michelin tyres on 20" rims!  The brakes were hyperactive on the way home, with ABS cutting in very early so feather weight braking required!  Nearly came a cropper only 5 miles from home, but managed to avoid hitting the island and bollard in the centre of the junction I was turning left at......

Really loving the car though - great on the motorway and feels really planted

So many gadgets to learn about - at my age manuals are usually left for when all other options are exhausted, but had to refer to it to pair my phone properly lol

Some pics from the journey home:

The S8 has done just under 41k from new and has an 'interesting' purple leather interior - it kind of grows on you.....certainly doesn't look out of place with familiarity!

well done for finding such a rare example!

Lovely car ...

Well done Adrian, very nice

Now don't be shy with the interior pics...
StumpyRS4

Looks great.  Any plans to colour code the sills/valance?  Always hate that on the older cars...
Adrian E

Who's ready for a bit of purple then?!

The flash makes it look lighter - honest!  It does grow on you.....

Found the odd niggly thing to sort, like a missing bit of trim around the battery compartment in the boot and no boot carpet retainers (one of the threaded fixings has snapped off.....) and the nearside mirror doesn't return to its normal position after dipping in reverse, but I've found a guide on how to sort that easily

Just wish the snow would go away so I could drive it as intended!  I've not given it full throttle yet

What time? sure it was you?
aka_dk

i think the purple is ok and quite cool

but the steering wheels needs to retrimmed, and change the gear nob

and get rid of the wood

looks MINT though !

great buy !

D2 is an amazing car, best car I ever owned - build quality and the recaros are awesome and only same weight of an a4 avant!

Would've been about 2ish at a guess - came off the M3 at Hook, following the TMC advice on the sat-nav - went cross country to pick up the A3 South of Guildford and followed it up to the M25

The interior is growing on me - certainly a talking point, and I prefer it to any type of beige leather lol

The wood trim is so dark in the flesh you can't even see the grain in it in daylight.  It's apparently Vavona high gloss amber 'wood' insert.

I suspect all D2s have fairly naff trim options?

My god, a real live stalker    at least I was driving sensibly - was pretty dodgy on some of those roads

Cheers

Spending on this will be kept to the minimum for now - I'm not working for the next 2 years, so any expense needs to be cleared with the boss/wife - I'm keeping some money aside in case something falls off and will see how its going by summer and whether it's looking like a keeper or not.

It's one thing that really pains me about Audi's with extended leather - it just looks wrong on most cars I've seen!  Worst one is an A4 3.0 which is still for sale - has cream leather which is covering the same areas as on mine - so steering wheel/handbrake/gear selector, but against the black airbag on that car it looks like a cheap and nasty re-trim!!

I kind of don't notice the colour of the rest of the interior with the purple breaking it up - not sure what would work to tone it down without looking out of place?  Would probably have to try and match the airbag cover.

Goes off in search of sales brochures for D2s to see what trim options there were.......

I caught a bow wave off the front of a 4x4 - chucked up all the slush in the centre of the road right into the front of mine - thought it was going to do a headlight on my new pride and joy

Sadly w*nkers in RR sports and disco 3s

Hi Adrian,

Nice car, an excellent find and I like the interior. Congrats.

I think there was an RS6 on here with a similar colour interior.

Cheers Oliver

The Milltek was making me smile when I fired her up this afternoon

That interior is a grower, it does look very tidy indeed .
Love the little luxury touches like the twin front armrest. What's the switch for in the drivers door pocket ?

Seat memory function.

(I used to own a D2 A8 )
Adrian E

I haven't even played with those yet lol luckily the Mrs is the same height as me so we don't have to juggle seat settings between us.

Have you got more than one remote key?

If so you can set them up as a his and hers. When you unlock it with your key, the seats & mirrors will go to your position, same when she uses hers.

Surprisingly handy when there are two drivers.
Adrian E

Hiya,

Yep, got 2 - could do with ordering some new remotes as they're a bit tatty but will wait till the hols to do some ebay shopping - assuming they still come up as frequently as they used to brand new.....

Need some key rings to differentiate the A6/S8 keys - they're identical!
briang9

picked my up recently too!!

Hello, another newbie here too. I also picked mine up a couple of weeks back and also sick of the snow!! (and being in Scotland we have plenty)

Saw yours when I was looking, and please dont take offence, but the purple just didnt do it for me.

Will try and attach some pics that the previous owner posted on Autotrader (hope I am not breaking any rules by posting the pics) when he was selling, strikes me as also being a bit different as apart from the mirrors its been de-chromed, looking forward to some fun once the snow goes

regards

Brian

Adrian, again that looks ace. Briang, make sure you post some pictures on the A8 Parts forum. Never seen a de chromed one on there before and I think it really suits it. We need some more D2 owners here!
CliveH

Lovely car Brian

thanks Clive

I grabbed a cheap and somewhat poor example on the cheap before the snow too. Its a 1998 S8 with 170k on the clock!

Still in the process of cleaning and fixing, many many parts broken, but the engine seems real nice:

Got it de-catted but otherwise stock exhaust today. An interesting mix of quietness then raspyness if you punch it.

With this much mileage, age and ye olde 32v cable throttle engine, its got oodles of charisma anyhow..
briang9

looks like your going to have a bit of work to do on that one!! have you had one before?
