PORTABLE POWER SUPPLY FOR CAMPING

Right then. one for you lot.
Need a portable power supply for camping trips and particularly for Le
Mans in June.

Needs to be self sufficient, i.e. not needed to plug into the car or a gennie, so good battery power.  And most importantly needs to have a 3 pin socket outlet for normal appliances (IPOD, phone chargers/ laptop, speakers etc).

Was thinking something along the lines of:

Or this

Any thoughts or suggestions ??

Hello mate, I have the one in the first link you put up.

Brilliant idea but the internal battery is tiny and doesnt last too long.  Especially if you use the 240v inverter.

If you want to charge ipods / phones dont use the 240v port, use the 12v accessory sockets.

Alterntively consider a leisure battery and a 240v inverter, but its gonna be heavy!

If you just want to charge laptops / Phones / ipods etc.. consider this setup...

I've got the powergorilla that I use with a netbook and it usually give it a full ccharge again if I do it when the netbook is off.

I also have the powermonkey classic-v2 which will charge my phone one a nd a half times but I have a phone that drinks battery power! it should do normal phones around 3 times.

if you're powering low voltage devices such as ipods, active speakers, chargers, etc. You are best off getting a multivoltage lighter adapter to use on a jump pack.

Using a 240v inverter is grossly inefficient. Energy is wasted to convert from 12-240v then wasted again through transformers to get back down to the required voltage for your ipod, etc.

So an ipod that requires a few hundred milliamps to charge now requires a few amps, most of which is burned up through the conversion.

how about this http://www.glow.co.uk/acatalog/GAZELLE-POWER-PEDAL-GENERATOR.html

That's the sort of thing but without the pedal bit!

I never think they generate enough charge, or you'll be constantly pedalling!

Looking for a bit more juice I think, and that's not code for Saq by the way!!

Looking at this option,  but the Halfrauds gennie thing is the sort of thing I'm after...

Why not a small petrol generator? They're getting pretty good and pretty cheap these days and you get much more juice for your dough, to recklessly mix metaphors

Am looking at them actually, thanks.

Any recommended ones.
