Smart

You've got 164 post's to finish it in then Jimbo
will1981

Pull your finger out.....
S4Player

Sounds good jimbo can't wait to see what your going to do different mate, get some details released asap !
jimbo

first off , the turbos.

ive waited nearly 4 months for these to be done, they went away for a new pair of compressor wheels to be fitted , i also wanted the superglued on inlet sorting once and for all ,hence the wait...

before

after

calibra_se8

Nice
grizz

Nice , you got Loba to do them this time . A proper job..
S4Player

If Loba done these jimbo are they 700's or 750's?
StumpyRS4

These the LO700/750 Jim?  Or just a swapped over wheel (which one)?
supersi

no these are Turbo dynamic look a likes of the loba design billet inlet, not first set i mite add also on a RS6 project car at MRC shown on there face book sometime ago (BAM BAMS).

got to be a acknowledgment of good design as i see it.

Good luck on the project jimbo looking forward to the results
S4Player

They look good! Are you going to be at grizz's Saturday Jim?
jimbo

yes as si says these are done by td. there are a few differences in the design 1st, less screws holding the intake to the compressor housing. 2 the taper isnt as smooth.

much better than the superglued items ive had so much trouble with though and should be much better flowing than the last design.

compressor wheels are the same as before ,the s3 ones .same as in peters car and the lo700,s .if these had sold when i had them for sale i would have had a pair of lo750 ,s now but as they didnt i have to use them.

next up some new manifolds , loba 3-1 cast

im pretty sure i was on the limit of the log style cast mtm ones so these have found a new home on hektors car. gas flow rate should be up and egt,s down so should see a difference in power with these. i need to do a bit of port matching first and they may go for ceramic coating before fitting but we,ll see.

next a set of loba cams, these have proven to give a good 20 ps increase if i remember right on peters car with no other changes and spool the turbos up sooner meaning less lag so these are a no brainer , ive wanted a set of these for ages.

S4Player

The manifolds are superb! The coating on mine is a bit thin but should do a job, I'm having my turbo's changed and upgraded for more power. Looking at the power you made before the cams alone should have you just about on the 700 mark
Nudenut

Subscribed!
jimbo

just found it, 20 ps to be had here , increased torque and less lag

davs4

Nice one buddy
nomad

Nice build!
But dont lay the cams on that surface!! They are going to be in your engine!!
Nez

nice one can't wait to see the finish
Playo

Good to see you've put a thread up Jimbo. I've been waiting on on for a while now I'll be keeping an eye on this one.

Hope it's ready for the next Vmax buddy
HEKTOR

nice 1 jimbo, this will be amazing when done!
JasonA

Bookmarked. Look forward to seeing the results on this Jimbo!
quattrokid

hail the Mighty Jimbo

is this your stroked 3 litre engine Jim ?

no rich, finances wouldnt permit that .so  the bottom end and heads are the same as before, its just ancillary changes this time. but there are quite a few changes
marc1

Good work Jimbo - chop chop, you'll have it done for Saturday's RR day
peterp1972

About time you got that car back on the road. You might need a bigger tank for the Meth this time though

I'll try and make sure I'm there for the next RR when this is ready.
jimbo

after yesterdays dyno day it got me motivated so i landed at the gm auto services tuning haus this aft and got gordo to open up for me. ive been pratting around for a few hrs here and there this week getting the old cams out so wanted to get the new ones in and done today , heres todays progress.

cams in with new chains and oil seals, jesus this is a bitch of a job without having a tool to compress the tensioners, passenger side took 4 goes to get the cams lined up with the timing marks and yes i did count the number of links on each side.

plenty of cam lube went on too.

heres my top tip of the day for getting the crank pin in first time.

belt on next and timed up, i checked it about 6 times before i was satisfied

front covers etc back on.

thats it for today, pretty pleased the top and front engine work is finished, went to the pub to celebrate todays awesome progress.
mikey-s

About time you pulled your finger out! Get it to Bedford on the 21st Jan..  You know you want to..
StumpyRS4

Need any pistons/rods Jim?
jimbo

dont know about that mike im off to oz the next day.

you can have your bar and pin back now , its only been about 4 months
jimbo

not yet carlos, im going to finish this engine before i start on the other one
JohnnyB

Looking good Jim will keep an eye in this.
mikey-s

jimbo wrote:

No worries, let me have a thrash of your car and we'll call it even..
jimbo

no problem
supersi

New cam followers and springs jimbo ?
jimbo

no the followers have only done 25k from new and are mint, im not spending 1k on a new set, supertech springs were fitted when i had the heads done 5k ago .
jimbo

couple more parts arrived yesterday the current seimens deka 630 cc injectors will be replaced with these ev14 980cc bosch ones , the stock maf housing will also be replaced with this 95mm internal bore unit,

all parts supplied by loba.

audimad100

980cc injectors f*cking hell jimbo you trying to get to the outer atmosphere
this is going to be an animal for sure
Alps

How did I miss this Thread? Jimbo, looking forward to seeing the end result

By the way, could you not still have gone for the LOBA 750's by getting them to modify your RS6's?

As for the LOBA cams... is that 20ps to be had only in conjunction with all the other mods? Or can an extra 20ps be had even with just an exhaust and remap?
mikey-s

Jim, yours did 597whp last time at MRC (correct me if I'm wrong), what was the actual crank figure??  Just thinking that trans losses should be approx 25%, which for you is over 100hp, and that takes you over the magic 700 already doesn't it??
FazS3

Going to be a monster!

I have just seen this and it's horrible.
I'm the one on saxophone.
jimbo

lol, why is mikes head sideways?
jimbo

promoted to p+b section. cheers
jimbo

got myself a mityvac as an early crissy present.

got to spend a couple of days on the car so got round to finishing the electric fan install, im not going to use the kit it came with im just going to wire it to the connections for the front fan that were made redundant when the fmic was fitted a few years ago, this way it will run constantly when the ac is on and will cut in automatically at around 99 degrees. its a 14" pacet fan i originally got a 16" but it was too big, i still had to modify this one to get it fitting right and as you will notice ive cut a small notch in the front panel, i had to take the rad off to do this. i wanted it tight up against the core but the blades fouled so had to pack it off 10mm with some rubber washers.

jimbo

next up i replaced my front mount intercooler kit with a duh kit , this came with an rs4 throttle body boot and the connections for the kit already welded on so i wanted to smooth it out like my last one was but this was made more difficult but did it any way, i also managed to get in and open up the dv take offs.

didnt get a before pic of the inside but it was just a rough casting.

next the clutch, i got this earlier this year, its the loba twin plate kevlar package with its own lightweight steel flywheel, the pedal feel and engagement is just like an oem clutch.

jimbo

next the exhaust manifolds,

when you spend well over 2 grand on a nice pair of manifolds most sane people would fit and forget them but here at JIMBOSPEED in partnership with QUEENS ROCK RACING one gets ones die grinder out and tries to improve things. i used to port and polish mini cylinder heads when i was younger so got back into the swing of things with these loba manis. this is the hardest metal ive ever had to grind but im pleased with the results, each port took an hours work so times that by 8 and thats a whole day gone, hers the pics in no particular order i just thought id post them all.
my heads were originally port matched to the mtm manis so are bigger than the gasket holes so i opened up the throats to 39mm with the cutting away being around the top, i didnt want there to be any lip in this area, i also opened the gaskets upto 39mm too.

i may have wasted my time here but we,ll never know.

ceramic coating wouldve been nice but the budget had already been smashed, il save that til next time, anyhow both manis back on the engine now.

next im going to have a good look at the turbos.
supersi

Good work on the manis jimbo, id have done the same for sure.
jimbo

cheers mate , i thought youd approve

cant do any harm can it and it hasnt cost me anything to do.the pics ive taken really doesnt do the work justice as the camera hates the shiney surfaces, all the pics are in mixed order but both manis are really smooth inside on the bends and as far in as i could get in with the grinder, if i could have taken them in bits id have done the whole lot.

wait til you see what ive done to the turbos.
supersi

haha sounding interesting about the turbos

whats your thoughts on the intercooler pipe work, as looks so small Dia.

Your a mad man!!

Cant wait to see the finished masterpiece!
Playo

Excellent work Jimbo!

I love how everything you do is so hands on mate, good on ya
HEKTOR

looking good jimbo!
RS4Jules

I cant understand most of this crazy engine talk

But i have to see it looks like its going to be even more of a beast than before.

Great work Jimbo

P.S you going to fit spacers
jimbo

thanks for the positive feedback guys it really motivates me. ive just spent the last 2 1/2 hrs porting out the hotside on the second turbo, its detious and boring work but i think this mod will pay off.

just for you jules in leymans terms "smooth things make the fire get out faster ".this is my next job after the engine to get these bad boys retrimmed and fitted, am liking what youve done to yours, may copy a few ideas.

no im not fitting spacers,

not until i get a set of chr,s anyway
HEKTOR

jimbo your work is first class, i love it.

Cant wait to see the finished artical and what numbers it makes. It will be even better than before.

Seats aint bad either
RS4Jules

Nice one Jim,now your talking my language

These will look amazing and in the right colour even better lol
jimbo

yep. mj is only half an hour away too.

si , im pretty sure the pipework is 50mm the same as the oem pipe from the turbo to the intercooler inlet, it shouldnt flow too bad when theres 30psi behind it, theres no sharp bends either to slow the flow down and this kit eliminates 4 straight couplers from the pipework which cant be a bad thing either, the ic core size is identical to the mrc kit i had before so cooling will stay the same, ive got a new bumper , modified it to suit and its all painted ready to go.
jimbo

nearly 400 hits on this thread today and only 8 replys, come on you miserable lot, need to make this a 40 odd pager like hektors thread as itll be the last one im  doing. honest

turbos now finished...

scream if you want some pics.
mikey-s

Is that spacer plate a specific size for the Loba clutch Jim?  I'm not too bothered about seeing your turbos, I'm sure we'll see them again next time you pull the engine.
big mac

really nice jimbo you have some wishlist bits going in this build i hope it hits what you think it will is there much modding to be done to fit that twin plate clutch bar the spacer and flywheel??
philws4

I'm screaming Jimbo. Give us some pics of the blowers

Keep the updates coming Jimbo it's all good stuff. I love reading the build threads, don't be put of by a lack of replies.
supersi

Have you engraved the LOBA logo on them now ?
Playo

Show us yer snails jimbo!
Bops4

Why switch to the duh cooler from the mrc if the core Is the same size? Isn't the mrc cooler supposed to be one of the best.
davs4

Loving this top man Jimbo
HEKTOR

Jimbo im not finished modding yet, just taking a break then i'll be hitting the 100 page mark
will1981

Have you ordered the CH-R's yet Jim?
Let me know if you want rid of those  MTM's
jimbo

mike. the spacer plate is half the thickness of the oem one, your right the turbos are shite and arent worth seeing.

phil, pics are on the way

si, nearly

bops, all will become aparent . stick with the thread and youll see.

will, it may be a while.

I've seen them, and they look really nice. No water damage at all, yet.
supersi

Yer come on jimbo, show us your handy work on the turbos

marc1

Really looking forward to seeing this Jimbo, seriously impressive work.
jimbo

first the hotsides got done, ive opened up the throat a bit as you can see, its just a funnel tapering down to the turbine wheel so gas speed and flow is pretty important here the the casting is pretty rough so ive spent about 2 1/2 hrs just on each casting with the grinder getting down as far as the tool will go. im pleased with the before and after results.

while the grinder was out i thought id do the outlet side too, id already removed the nasty lip just after the turbine wheel last year so it was just a case of smoothing the casting before the gasses expand into the downpipe, ive probably wasted my time here but i dont care.

jimbo

now for the coldside of the turbo, the new billet inlets are a hell of a lot better than the old superglued inlets i had before in terms of design and flow just looking at this pics shows this, also the o-ring depths cut into it were different so the plan was to whip them off put them in the lathe and make both grooves the same but in the end i got around this by using o-rings of different thickness to acheive the same overall diameter so left it at that, i still thought i could get them to flow better though so out came the grinder again.

before

jimbo

all these need now are a pair of lo750 compressor wheels and id be happy for life.
jimbo

anyone know where i can get the foilbacked heatwrap thats round the actuators on the net, im gonna double up on this and need some for the intake pipes?
Alps

Jimbo, as some already have said... you're a nutter

And, like all the others, really looking forward to seeing this build progress.
RubanS4

Jimbo your car will be awesome
supersi

Nice one,  like the inlets they look a better job now.

We are not worthy!!!!!!
marc1

Jimbo - you are nuts improving brand new turbos and manis  They do look good though, and like you say it's not cost you anything but time and you'll enjoy the fact you've done all the hard work.

When do you reckon you'll complete it all by?  Will have to have a meet (Sunn Inn or the like) to come and see the monster.

The seats will look stunning in Silver Nappa.
jimbo

work on the lower intake pipes started this aft, got one done, should get the other one done tomorrow evening .
jimbo

just thought id root out a few pics from the last thread , its 18 pages of mostly drivvle but here are a few good pics and we all like pics eh.

inlet manifold before and after.

rods ..

headwork

and a pair of cr dropping headgaskets courtesy of mrc.
eep

what did you use  to clean up the manifold/tbb/turbos? Is it an attachment for a normal drill?

is there anything left in/on the engine thats still standard?
calibra_se8

Great progress, going to be a monster
jimbo

hi dave , jp from jnl did the heads and inlet manifold. i used a die grinder with the usual grinding stones and sand paper flap wheel type thing to do the exhaust manifolds , turbos and intake pipes. the tbb  was just done with sand paper wheels only.a die grinder spins at 25,000 rpm with 90 psi behind it where a drill spins at maybe 2,500 rpm. you can do the same job with a drill it just takes  a bit longer.

by now the only parts on the car that remain original from when i got it from deane are the back seats , roof bars and mirrors, pretty sure everything else has been changed or modified...
eep

die grinder sounds like a fun toy.

will the gearbox need any work for this power?
jimbo

dunno dave , ive got 4 spares.
MathiasS

4 should do
S4Player

Ill be having one jimbo lol
Nudenut

Great work Jimbo, you're the man!!

Glad you've still got those roof bars
jimbo

at this point i need to decide what to do with the pre turbo water injection, do i

1.   leave it where it is

2.    ditch the idea

3.   relocate the nozzles to the upper intake pipes and fit a solenoid valve on each nozzle

trouble is il never know what killed the turbos last time, was it the pre turbo jets or water being spat through the diverter valves from the number 3,s on the ic end tanks or the air filter..

any input gratefully received.
MathiasS

I saw a great setup on AZ where a member had an Aquamist HFS-6 and he pade seperate holes in the inlet manifold for each cylinder to inject it there
