Removing front subframe.

Can it be done with a support bar and what is the weight of box and engine for SWL

Thanks guys.
Aragorn

when i did mine, i just stuck a jack under the engine and another under the gearbox

Clearly a support bar would have been better, especially with the heavier S4 engine. Probably still want something under the transmission so it doesnt yank the prop around too much.

The engines around 200kgs and the box around 80.

Thanks aragorn, One last question, is there alignment pins for the subframe? Or shall I just mark it's position?
Aragorn

there are, its just two 20mm dowels. The factory jack handle works nicely, so if you've got two of those your set. Otherwise i've used a snugly fitting socket as well.

Thanks aragorn mate, that's just what I needed to know

I used only the support bar, and it worked great! That way you can work better under the car.

It is like this:

yeh, but if you do that, the back end of the tranny attempts to swing down, and is only restrained by the propshaft and the (somewhat fragile by this age) prop centre bearing.

Much better to put something under the back end of the gearbox to keep it level!

Thanks guys, I've already got a support bar, and I'll support the gearbox as it won't hurt

No it doesn't. The motor has front end support which helps to prevent it, with the help of the support bar. I have done it, and I know how it goes. First I lifted the motor so much up than possible, and then removed the subframe. Rear end wasn't hanging at all.
