retro fitting recaro seats

How difficult is it to fit electric recaro seats to my s4. It already has electric lumbar support and heating

Straight plug and play facelift to facelift.

If you are putting avant rears into a saloon, then you will have to figure out some way of holding in the seats so they don't fold forward. I'm actually trying to find more info about it myself since I've just got some RS4 Recaros in my S4 saloon. The stock rears in mine used a sort of staple shaped thing for the clips in the seat to latch onto. The Avant rears latch on to a pin thats higher and horizontal rather than vertical.

If you are handy enough with metal fabrication, you could probably make something up using a set of avant pins and the original mounting holes for the staple (assuming you've got a saloon)

EDIT: I forgot to mention that you shouldn't run into any other bother when installing Recaros. Fronts fit straight in and the rears do to, except for what I've mentioned about the locking pins. Saloon S4 Recaros will be a direct fit into a saloon, but I don't see too many of them up for sale often. Avant seats are direct fit to Avant. Its only Avant to Saloon and vice versa that has trouble.

Avant has this pin which is facing side to side in the car

Saloon has this staple which is facing front to back in the car.

Have you stripped the rear seats down, they come apart quite easily, you just need to be careful obviously, but if you get onto etka and find out if the seat frames are the same between s and RS then you could simply swap covers and foam between the different seats frames?

Edit: or I'm sure the latches just bolt onto the frames so maybe just swap latches over to make fit

Anyone know the fire colours for the heated seat.
I've got the power plug (red)
Airbag plug (yellow)
Got a small black plug with brown wires I'm assuming they are for the heated seats

The Recaro rear seat backrest frames are different widths on saloon and avant, you need to change the center mounting bracket to suit which ones you have. The saloon seats have two headrests, center lap belt and deeper bolsters. The avant ones have three headrests and a 3 point belt built in to the seat and have flatter bolsters. The saloon and avant latches are at different heights on the backrests also. I examined both as I planned to switch Rs4 hitech covers on to a leather saloon Recaro backrest and those were the differences I found

A green rectangular plug is for the heated seats. If you ain't got this then the seats aren't heated.

Plugs will be in a group together too, red, green and yellow.

So just got me front seats out ans as stated above the original seats have a green plug with 4 wire in it. My recaro so don't have the green plug but a 2pin black plug.
If I trace the green plug wires back I have the same black plug with the same two brown wires.
Anyone have access to a wiring diagram fore the front seats
Also how can I test the wires on the recaro to see if they are for heated seats.
Broonie

Green plug is for the heating element, if your recaro has no green plug they are not heated
aidank1981

i think only the black leather was heated as standard? is that correct or was it optional on all seats?
Broonie

I think it was an option on all S models, apparently a lot of the recaro seats came with the heating installed in them and just didn't have the loom/switches, just left with a green plug under the seat with nothing plugged into them

ah ok! i got mint  TQS recaros for 350 so couldnt refuse them but they had  no green plug so that may well be the case
Adz552

Thats my thinking. Maybe i just need to get the green plug and connect the heating elements. Well i hope so. Or make a little loom up
Broonie

If there's no green plug there's no heating elements in the seat,

I also fitted tqs recaros to mine, I prefer half leather over full leather and I like the pattern, but mine aren't heated either, I've considered getting a pair of s3 heated front recaros for cheap and swapping the heating elements over to my seats
aidank1981

I'm the same! Had full leather and it's practical but too slidey love the retro TQS stripes 😍

so i found this last night

So any help on this would be really helpful.
After doing a bit of research and tralling other vag forums I've come to this conclusion.
The seats I have DO have the heaters in it (maybe recaro put them in all the seats, don't know) as I have the brown and blue and brown wires that power the heater elements but I don't have the 6pin green plug. I don't seem to have the thermistor wires in the seat. These apparently tell the seat control module the temp of the seat to regulate the temperature so it doesn't burn your arse.
I could just fit them and not have the heater function but I don't wonna do that, I'd rather get them working so that's where I could do with the help.
Can I somehow fool the seat control module or get some thermistors and wire them into the seats
Broonie

No green plug means no heated seats, it's that simple

Do you have wires there that have no plug on the end?

If you don't have a green plug there will be 2 plugs, one for airbag and one for electric adjustment motor

The seats have the heaters in them.
Maybe the heated option wasn't chosen when it wash first ordered and so the wiring to operate the heated seats wasn't fitted but the seats do have the heating elements in them. Come and look for yourself

On the original seat the green 6pin plug also goes to the same brown wires and I have a heated seat wiring diagram to back up what I'm saying.
If you where here you'd see what I'm on about.

Pictures of your situation would help?

I'm on it just getting the pictures together

Wiring diagram

Plug with the correct wires

Plugs I got from scrappy

Wiring on recaro seat

The green plugs I got from scrappy today are the same as the original seat plugs
As you can see on the diagram the black/yellow and brown wires go to the heated seat elements. On the seat the black/yellow goes to a plug and changes to brown/blue so that's the black plug on the recaro seat bottom photo.
On the diagram the black/white and brown/black wires go to the thermistor. Have them on the original seats but not on the recaro.
Soo either the recaros don't have or need the thermistor that the original seat have so I need to either add thermistors to the seats or fool the seat control module somehow with a variable resistor
Adz552

Come up with an idea. Bridge the thermistor wires with a resistor to fool the seat control module and complete the circuit.
Ill let you know how i get on
Adz552

so ended up buying a pair of 10k thermistors and puting them in the seat.
wired up the heated elements
got the seats in today and the look awesome and work well

aidank1981

look lovely!
Adz552

got my seats fitted today
