Rs6 gearbox stuck in park.

I am after some advice as to what would cause an rs6 gearbox to stay stuck in park and not select any gears. You can move the gear lever back an forth but it still shows it in the park position.

Sounds like the switch on the selector is buggered, or the selector rod itself has come off. More likely the first.
Mechanically there is very little to go wrong.

Cheers mate.

If it was what you decribe is it an easy straight forward repair ?

I think the switch is a common problem, and it's a bugger to get to but it's possible with the box in place.

Ask over on rs246

If you can roll the car when you think you have it out of park, then it's defo out of park.
In which case the selector is selecting but the computer (the switch) says no.

Just an educated guess, mind you. Best to check.

It sounds like it may even be as simple as the nut on the selector lever has come loose and the cable is sliding inside it. This would allow the lever in the car to move and the selector lever to not move the manual valve in the gearbox. What I would do is put the lever in park, then go under the car, and obviously see whether the nut is loose where the switch is, and if it is, move the lever to the park position on the gearbox, and tighten the bolt up.

If the bolt is already tight, then as jockthedog said it is either the switch or the  selector rod, which is sump off, valve body out.

This is actually off a Range Rover 6HP-26, but is the same principle. Check the nut at the red arrow is tight.
