Love it !!!

What kind of power and torque is it ?

Are those rear wheels wider than the fronts ?
MilkybarKid

Thats nuts
love it well done

michael, the owner and builder says that he think in this set up the car will easy pull 600hp and 800nm !
the rear wheels are 10x19 and the front are 9.5x19 !

Ash25 wrote:

it handle very well...not at least the v8 engine is lighter then the v6

there is in every situation a lot of torgue !!!!

frazered wrote:

yes, of course...the base was an rs4 b5 gearbox...
StumpyRS4

I'm (almost) speechless.
That looks lovely.

Really like the bonnet scoop too.

I need to borrow the wife for a few minutes...

The 4 in the background with the black C6 wheels and yellow calipers - is that the one that has black bonnet grills/cutouts?

Love the look of this one too...

Daniel

yes thats the car...but that are r8 wheels and not c6
aposegil

that just sounds awesome anyone want to buy my v6 setup lol i already ahve rs6 exhuasts and suspensions lol
CraigG

It looks and sounds awesome!

A few questions:

Why have you chosen to route the turbo air inlets thru the chassis rails and up to the bonnet scoop? Surely just sticking a pair of filters directly on the turbo inlet would have been just as good, and wouldnt have needed the bonnet mods for the large scoop?

Has he rebuilt the engine using a standard 40v block? As far as i'm aware, the RS6 block has a abnormal bellhousing pattern (to accomodate the HUGE torque convertor its fitted with), and would not bolt to a standard 01E. To get the stock bellhousing he must have either used an adaptor plate, or swapped the block out for a normal 40v V8 block at rebuild time?

Cheers

Daniel

hey craig...

that was the only way to put the turbos and the inlets for air under the hood...the shortage of space is very extrem !

this is an oem rs6 engine with fitted rs4 manual gearbox with an one mass flywheel !
MarkB

It fits very well but for me spoilt a little by the mesh where the reg plate should be....
Daniel

it is not easy to find the master solution...

he thought about black grills, too

MarkB

Black looks better but I'd still prefer a number plate fitted.

Top project though, so much so I think this should go in the projects and builds forum
StumpyRS4

Do you know the size/offset of the LMs in the original pics?
Daniel

front 9.5x19 and rear 10x19 both with 265/35
Adam

That looks absolutely gorgeous IMO

I think the bonnet suits the look really well, awesome
StumpyRS4

Tghought they looked wider than normal...

I posted about this a few weeks ago - asking the question if you could run the quattro system on different width wheels front to rear as you have done !

Others suggested that it couldn't be done because it would dammage the diff.

What are your views on this as i thing they look amazing when the rears are obviously wider than the fronts.....
H8CAK

Im in love. Love the bonnet too. How the hell did he get that engine in there?
Jules

That just looks fantastic - love the bonnet scoop!

It's got SMICs though - so why the number plate cut-out? Doesn't need it does it?
Daniel

hey pegbox !

michael drives his car some years with this combo and nothing had happend to the diff...I think the difference is not to much !

@ Jules

yes, in germany we need the number plates at the front and rear site, but I think, my friend will find a good choice...
Jules

Hello Daniel - sorry, I think you mis-understood what I meant: what I mean is that people normally cut out the area where the number plate goes because they have an FMIC (i.e. to allow more air-flow to the FMIC) - but this guy has SMICs so doesn't need to cut out the area where the number plate goes.
Daniel

these guy have some coolers back of the front bumper...
ScottR

It's an awesome feat of engineering and I think it's excellent that they've managed this, but I don't understand why.

Those power and torque figures are achievable on the 2.7T engines aren't they (and for considerably less work)??

Still... love it!
pegbox7

Those power /torque figures must be in base tune, I'm sure it can be cranked up considerably to produce big power . Its probably just running at a very safe unstressed state of tune..

I would expect a large amount of space under the curves

Wider power band...
davey

I want I want
Daniel

when you drive the big block in the rs6 you can see how powerful it is and then you must think away the +400kg and the automatic...
davidr

I wondered what happened to this... I saw it on Audizine(i think...?) but only as afr as the wiring loom work.....
Nice bit of shoehorning on that lump...
Graham

Brilliant project, thanks for sharing.
Venari

Very cool, and just 'my cup of tea' - something I would do... just not as well funded.
PaulyRS4

love it love it, looks like a very tidy build. Looks like an animal.

With thanks to Daniel and rs-quattro.de I have put these pics and video onto youtube (for those of you not keen to download that 66MB video file)...

how did he mate up the rs4 trans the rs6 block??  adapter plate??
bimmerchop

I'm interested to know as well. From what I've been told, the RS6 block has a crank that can only be used with the RS6 torque converter and auto trans.
aposegil

that engine is def a rs6 lump.

as for the clutch it is easy to get round that custom flywheel

it is easier to use a normal 4.2 v8 n/a block as i heard the rs4 flywheel matches up no problems.
Daniel

hi aposegil...

I not sure if I understand you right...

but in the b5 is a hole complete rs6 bi-turbo engine working and not the simple 4.2l engine !
bluebrakes

He's asking how your friend managed to get an rs4 gearbox onto an rs6 engine.

hello Yes Daniel i do understand hence I said "that engine is def a rs6 lump" and you can mate up a 6 speed tranny to the rs6 lump with a custom flywheel seen it done
Daniel

If It Don't Fit, Use a Bigger Hammer

but you don`t need a adapter plat !

I need some more details man i really wanna do this come on spill the beans!!!! haha. What flywheel/clutch setup? what mounting points for engine and tranny? why no adapter plate?
Spdkng

wtf dan or someone spill it!!!!
aposegil

speak to MRC they have the parts to do it and if I ever did get round to do it I would be buying from them.

Does not look like an RS6 block to me?

S4/RS4 transmission will work with practically any motor.

FLAME ON...
A 3.2 VR6 Turbo will still blow the doors off of it....

....DUCKS FOR COVER

Like an S8 unit to me.
I could be wrong but the webbing does not look like an RS6 unit.
Would love to get more details.
Daniel

hey Issam...

take a flight to germany...then you would see that it is an rs6 unit !

Oh wonderful..... loads of tech info.....

Is this project being developed by the secret police of a foreign f*cking country?
aposegil

sorry ghost but what has your "foreign f*cking country" got to do with this.

what do you guys need to know? its a rs6 block with custom flywheel and a rs4 gearbox with custom manifolds, down pipes and looks like gt28 turbos?

also as far as i know rs6 heads designed to only fit the rs6 bottom end and those are def rs6 cam covers
Ghost

Its okay I can now confirm that no foreign country/super power was involved in establishing that this was actually a totally straight forward engine conversion, you know like the ones we all yawn about.

I thank god for this as I have been trying to establish if this thread involved potential military secrets or possibly industrial espionage, nope just an engine in the wrong place, wow!
aposegil

yes it simple only headache is the wiring

glad you finally seen it clearly

what the hell...guys what is going on in your heads ?!?!
DavidT

I don't think there is anything wrong with what Daniel posted.

He's given the details of what the car is and told Issam to go and look at it if he doesn't believe it. Sounds fair to me.
loomx

Theres a place and a time for these kind of arguments... its called pistonheads.com, because arguing matters...
RS4Jules

I love this car ,and thanks with sharing it Daniel

I love this pic,it just shows with the right wheels and offset a perfect stance making the rear arches look even wider.
I still really want to fit the b5/b7 combo back bumper, its just biting the bullet to cut the wheel well in half to do a
proper job that i'm not liking

bluebrakes

nothing wrong with what daniel said.

awesome project.

What is it with forums and getting arsey!?

I just wanna know how they mated up the trans. The rs6 comes auto and ive heard that you need an adapter plate to mount up to it so how did this guy do it without the adapter? Also what did they do for mounting the engine and tranny?

bigleem

WOW, I have just fallen in love with the perfect car and when I win the lotto this is what i'm going to have as my daily drive. The work is amazing, please give us a update. All the cars in that workshop looked awesome ven with covers over them. I wish I had the money and lived in Germany.

Brilliant,Brilliant,Brilliant oh did I say Brilliant?
Silverking

If anybody doubt that this is possible, i can arrange pictures of a maniac at home that are putting this engine into a a4 1.8t quattro.

He is using stock gear box but have problems with getting starter to fit to this combo, will probably make some custom parts to fix it;)

incredible project Daniel !
i can only imagine how the car must pull!
not a fan of modifying the outer of an rs4 but what you guys did is also good looking !

see guys, i told Avus Silber is the fastest b5 color
AliGod78

This is just awesome! I take it the B5 chassis can handle that kind of torque?
And is this completely custom? Not idea what that's supposed to look like I'm afraid. One hell of a project! What progress since?
