S4 B6 remap time. Is JHM still the best?

I've been researching this for a little while now and it boils down to 3 companies; JHM, Revo and MRC.

The JHM seems to be the best one from everything that I've read, but is that still the case?

I mainly want to improve driveability by getting rid of the DBW throttle lag and jerkiness. More power wouldnt hurt either
So far I've gutted my precats and I intend on putting on a cat back magnaflow system. I was even thinking of going catless if that's recommended?

Thanks for the help!

I've got the JHM Tune on mine, huge difference in both torque and power.

Never had it on the rollers, so can't give you any figures, but a noticeable difference.

Hi Jim who did your JHM Tune
JimGreen

ME.......... They send you the map via their server which you log in too, with a special code they will send, then you download it directly into your ecu, have a chat with Jake @ JHM, make sure you let him know it's a UK car and get the high octane map. They definitely have the map available as they tailor made it for me, (Pre Cats Removed - Often referred too as Piggy's on here, Miltek non resonated full exhaust system) it's a very noticeable difference to a stock car.

JHM's map has a lot of safety features built into it, which other maps don't. Check their web site, all the details are on there. Their advantage over other companies is that they have done hundreds of cars, maybe even thousands and constantly develop their maps, I know REVO and MRC are both well respected, but I doubt they work on as many S4's & RS4's as JHM.

Thanks Jim.
Not too sure if I want the high octane map, does it make a massive difference? I personally don't see the point of spending an extra 15p per litre for a couple more horses.
Don't suppose you mind lending me the cable? I don't mind giving you a few quid
JimGreen

Don't know the power difference between the high octane map and the lower octane one, worth dropping Jake @ JHM a quick email and he'll let you know.

I borrowed the cable from someone on here, can't remember who it was though. Just put up an add and I'm sure someone will help you out and loan you theirs.

Go to mrc mate. You don't want a generic map. They will roller the car to give you a standard figure. Then put a generic map on and roll it again. They tweak the map and roll it again to get the most out of it. Just been there with my standard C5 RS6 and went from 450 bhp and 648 nm of torque to 527 bhp and 797 nm of torque. Very impressed with them.

MRC are probably (My Opinion Only from knowing a few people who have used them) the best UK based company and you will end up with a map specific to your car.

BUT : If you don't have many mods done (Piggy Pipes & a well known and often used exhaust system), the JHM Tune will be VERY close as they've mapped so many and the generic map is based on their experience of doing MANY S4's. As perfect as you will get without a live mapping session.

I spoke to MRC, they said I'd gain about 15bhp. JHM claims double that. I'm going with JHM anyway as I've managed to get hold of a cable. The only mods I have are piggies, I'll be putting on a magnaflow system in the near future and I might try a diy porting of the intake manifold and removing the aux rad to allow for an induction kit.
Thanks for your help guys!

Do JHM's figures apply to UK fuel?
JimGreen

Yes, the map they supply is for UK fuels, you get the choice of Super Unleaded (97/98 Ron) , or Unleaded (95 Ron). I went for the Super Unleaded and you will feel a very genuine power and torque increase

I genuinely believe you made the right decision, others may not necessarily agree, but I had the JHM map on my B6 S4 and know the power difference it made.

I had Piggies, a Milltek Exhaust System (Non Resonated) and K&N Filter...... that made the most of the otherwise stock engine.

Thanks!
I've just got myself a quickjack so work will soon commence on bringing the car up to standard. Plenty of maintenance to do this summer! Once the gearbox, clutch and flywheel have been dealt with I will be remapping it

These motors love the higher octane fuel. It pays for itself in the increased economy. The higher octane fuel allows the ECU to advance the ignition timing & produce more torque - this gives you better cruising mpg as well as more torque everywhere on the curve. It is worth the extra cost
If you run on 95 dishwater the ECU is always pulling timing and you probably loose 20lbft over what you should have.
