S4 V8 Noggy Avant

Picked up the B5s replacement today

99k
Matching recaro interior
Audi Nav system
Electric seats etc.

Timing chains clutch and flywheel done

Needs few bits sorting

Paid 4.5k bargain price

Drives fantastic the V8 I thought would be a bit docile but it burbles along fine then poke it with a stick and it moves really covers ground

Much chuffed and standard

Loving the New Noggy
A lot of car the money.
NogaroDrew

Very nice mate. Great value for money by the looks of it
Markv

Take it,  it fits in the garage
Noggymike

Nice one Martin

Fastest colour, rare one to boot!
marc1

Great cars. Would strongly recommend the RS4 H&R ARB's front and rear and removing the variable steering assistance fuse and it will handle a lot, lot better. Think the fuse is called the 422 mod but it's been a while... Google is your friend.  Got to love a Noggy. Enjoy.
marc1

^ these ones: http://www.larkspeed.com/shopper/...vant-Cabrio-H-R-Anti-Roll-Bar-Kit I.e. The thicker rear (they do a 22mm and 24mm rear option).
Challice

Just gone through the paperwork and in 2014 it had just over 5k spent on it using oem parts and done by specialist vag garage.

Drives so good and I'm really impressed with the performance it really comes alive over 4k rpm

Had to be Noggy only 2 for sale though this one was put up in for sale sect in July so it was fate that I had a nose through and sent an PM to him.

Can't beat that V8 prrr

Already got a ramair panel filter to go in that I pre bought last week haha
Noggymike

You painting the door blades???

Interesting, got these pics in the archive from when I was cranking out the overtime to buy one! Never viewed this one - was way before I could afford one - date on pics is 27th Dec 2005. Always wanted a Noggy Avant with matching alcantara (was due to view an 03 plate in Hammersmith, but DK pipped me to it!)

Ended up with my Dolphin grey one and loved every minute, I sold it two years ago yesterday after four and a quarter years ownership. It's currently on Autotrader and has been for a while, looking rather sorry for itself, the person selling it is not the person I sold it to

It was this video in particular that did it for me. Shocking quality video, originally posted about 2003 2004 when I was at Uni and when the B6 S4 was fairly new and You Tube didn't exist - you had to download car videos you wanted to watch - remember those days?!  I must have watched this a hundred times dreaming 'one day'....

Ace

It's quite a rare package
will1981

Identical to the one I had, noggy and noggy inserts.

Here's a couple of pics with spacers and darker wheels. Congrats!

For me darker wheels compliment the side blades too.

Loving this!

Let the ocd cleaning commence! Lol!

It needs it
aidank1981

looks lovely! think if i went avant it would need to be a B7 S4 or a B5/B7 RS but i'd need to sell a kidney first...
Zildjian

Bargain!! These didn't drop below 7-8k for aaaaaaaages.

They make a mega noise!!
Challice

Yup and I think the value will rise too.

Sounds great
Challice

Dirty manky window mould gone

Shiny now
Challice

Challice

Wash and rinse
Clay bar
Wash and rinse
Dry
Polish
Wax
Tyre trim gel
Polished windows

And the Wife got the inside clean

Also had in the car a new oem drivers door cover for the handle and window switches etc as the old one is worn and scratched so that was a bonus plus a pack of stickers to replace the worn out buttons on the HVAC
Challice

Have two faults coming up

Not to fussed though
kylebrady

Very nice mate nearly got the b6 myself but couldn't find one that had the tensioner guides and chain done
S4Max

Nice one, it looks like a great car and a lot for the money. It's good to read some nice posts about the B6 S4's as the forum is usually quiet. I look forward to reading and seeing your progress. Good luck.

Thanks

Think they are a put off due to lack of turbos but they aren't slow by any means of the word.

And as a complete package you couldnt ask for more

I like it a lot, newer more mod cons V8 sound track
Monodude

Hi Challice,

Looks spot on and all the right bits have been done, with the Engine mounts they are hydraulic mounts on the B6. Check that they have been plugged in as that might be why they have the faults coming up.

I replaced both of mine as one had the fault code and was leaking fluid and the starter motor at the same time, I did a thread on it a few years back with some pics so you can see what I am on about

Cheers

Al
Challice

Thanks it's currently rammed full ready for camping trip tomorrow

I'll have a search

Nice one Challice!!!  A load of car for the money!!  My best mate has one, red avant, he's had it for years and been in it a good few times, they really can shift when ringing out the v8!  I think you should keep the standard colour on the wheels, the silver makes them stand out, they are brilliant wheels.  The feel proper solid these cars too.

This was a few years back when mine was on 20's...

guymcc

Just been on autotrader....you've got a cracking buy there!  Nice work! Manual or auto, may have missed that?
Challice

Manuel box

Yeah it feels a solid car I didn't think I'd like it coming from the B5 but Im really chuffed with it.

It'll be staying oem looking I was out in it today and it turns heads

As much as I love your wheels Guy (now in my Noggy)

Your pink car looks better now with the changes than in that pic.

Have fun mate,

The other thing I was thinking if the previous owner put in new engine mounts that were upgraded and not OE as these are not Hydro mounts and dont have the wiring for them. Normally you stick a resistor in the connector so it doesnt have the fault code.

I opted for the standard ones 400... was painful. But apparently they take out the engine vibes on tickover then as the revs rise when you floor it they stiffen up so you get the best of both worlds.
Challice

Have to have a look when I drop the engine oil

Just back from holiday did 370miles round trip and it didnt miss a beat averaged 24mpg but it was back roads up n down hills did 300 to a tank.

Have noticed that the rear end sits lower than the front by a good 10mm
coullstar

Maybe broken rear springs then?  Also had one of these a few years back pretty much identical.  For the price they are great all rounders and sound ace.
Only thing that went wrong was the starter, 600 to replace that.
Challice

Not sure if the springs would be broken as it rides and handles fine with no noise.

Mine was done when the timing chains and clutch etc was done

Just reading up on pre cat removel and needing 02 spacers for the main cat sensors to stop it throwing a code.

Could get it mapped out by MRC but I don't want it mapped until the exhaust system is done
coullstar

I had two broke on the RS at the rear and only way to tell was it sat low at the back.  No other noises.
Saying that most B6 Quattro's do see to be like that.
Challice

Hmm have to have a look a some point my list is getting bigger haha
Challice

Loaded up the dog was in the back to
Challice

1st log seems ok

Sent it to doug to see what he thinks

I did do a video of the exhaust but it sounds pants
goodridge

So how does it feel performance wise compared to the B5?
Zildjian

Bet it was nice to drive around, without worrying about potential boost issues or anything 😀
Challice

Zildjian wrote:

100%

It's a better car to drive feels even better build quality, rides great.

Performance wise.

You don't get the turbo kick but it does hold you back in your seat and when you look at the speedo your moving some.

Throttle response is fantastic the V8 just picks up a pulls away.

Its a massively under stated car
Challice

Manky wiper arms sorted

Challice

Love that V8
kylebrady

Think I'd consider one of these after the b5

That's what my E39 M5 was like. Didn't kick me in the kidneys like a modded S4 does, but it was still accelerating very very quickly,....especially above 100 units per hour. Soooo linear. Really, any car that hits 60mph in 5-ish seconds, is worthy of the 'fast' label
Challice

This is true I haven't launched it yet but I have given it big licks out of 90deg junctions / turnings and the back end will happily slide out.

Strange having tracion control though

I can 2nd that, the B6 S4 seems to go under the radar but is a cracking car, glad you are enjoying it mate and might see you at ADI Combe if its on? as I havent seen a post for it yet in the meets section

Cheers

Al
Challice

I'd like to take it on track but needs brakes and front tyres so best not.
Challice

10mm spacers on the rear to fill out the arches

However I found the reason it's sitting low at the back the right hand spring has broken the top coil has snapped off.

rob_arthur

lovely looking car, seems like a great move on from the b5
guymcc

Spacer is working well!  And at least you now know what the problem is.  Fairly straight forward fix too!

Thought so, there very well known for going.  Good excuse to get some H&R...
Challice

Yeah as I jacked it up I herd it fall out, means I doubt I'll be going to ADI

Got the oil and fuel filters just need plugs and oil to do the service
Stigs dad

Blimey mate you don't  mess about. Cars already looking up to your standard of ocd on the b5 I bought from you.  My silver b6 quattro  estate had the same issue at the back end as yours has . That turned out to be cracked springs. Took the b5 to santa pod today and all I spoke to have commented on how tidy your old motor was.   Done a few bit's since buying from you but explained 99% of the work has been done by you.  Hope you can make it to audi  driver on Sunday as I was going to make the long trip down.
Challice

Won't be going I'm afraid as I have coilovers arriving monday so I need to get those fitted as I'm working the following Saturday sucks as it's so close.
Challice

Coilovers fitted just need to raise the front left and rear right maybe the rear left too just to make the arch gap side to side even.

The ride is actually very good and handles better to just need wheel alignment done and I think 5mm spacers up front.

Also need four tyres and Brake lines as the rear right has minor perishing
Noggymike

Looking better on the coilovers Martin

What's your plans with the door blades?
Challice

They will be Noggy but the list before that is big.

Service
Wheel alignment
4 tyres
Brake lines
Discs n pads all round
Deep clean
Wheel refurbish
Sort paint on drivers door and wings very flat bad respray
Rear spolier
Remove pre cats
Exhaust system

Lots to do with no time to do it.

I was fitting the coilovers today and was thinking what's the point?

Weather all that list gets done or not only time will tell
Noggymike

You have to have a game plan Martin!

I have recently had some wheels refurbed by Speedwells in Birmingham.

Great price and quality results.
Challice

It just needs bringing back to life and subtly improving

I use a company in swindon who are fantastic did the B5 wheels and the speed lines I had on the Mk2 Golf
nick78

Stunning S4 mate have you done anything else to it since october ?

I had a black B6 saloon afew years ago loved it and seriously thinking about swapping the mk5 R32 golf i've got now for one really miss that V8 !
Hoyle

Lovely looking car, was behind one on the weekend in my van. He gave it a bootful and faded into the horizon

Best colour by far and now you've fitted suspension really sits well, have you seen much improvement in the handling ?

Have you got any better pictures of the flat paint? Is it something a polish could help? I'm a dab hand with detailing and managed to get my noggy blue really shining again with a 3 stage polish
