S4 Widebody in progress (pics inside).....

Hi guys, as some of you may know my S4 is currently at Unit 20 in merseyside undergoing a pretty severe transformation and i thought i would post up some progress pics and details BUT some history first......(beware - long rant).

Previous car - Audi 80 Sport, was my dad's old car which i ran into the ground.

I thought it was brilliant to be honest, as it followed an 'E' reg Audi 100 quattro avant, which had seen better days and was subsequently stolen which paved the way for the 80.

After the 80 died i trawled the ads and was settling on a newer 1.8t but then saw that some S4's were beginning to come into my price range and decided to go for one - sod the cost of running it i just wanted it once i had a test drive!

Sooooo i finally found one that was actually affordable (to me) at the time.

Haven't got any pics of it on my computer when i bought it, but about 3 months after getting it i decided to spin on some ice on the motorway and managed to dent it a little bit......whoops.

Thing is, just before i left the house my girlfriend at the time said to be careful as the weather was bad, to which i replied, hey i have 4 wheel drive...what can go wrong? DOH!

After some time of getting used to the standard car i found out about sorting its handling etc.

Mods so far:

Milltek Single catback
18" RS6 replicas
H&R coilovers
MRC Remap

Some more random pics of the car....

Continued in next post......
Ash25

After a lot of reading and more searching and more reading i decided to save up for a K04 upgrade and other bits, but then also thought about an RS4 body conversion after seeing some awesome ones from other members.

Then some kid crashed into my car on his pushbike and ripped the wing mirror off and dented some of the panels etc which spurred me on to do the whole body conversion thing.

Here are some pics before the car went into UNIT 20...

Can you spot the lovely silver tape holding the wing mirror on then? was driving around town while it was hanging off for a couple of days, and there was no problem and so got used to not using it, then went on the motorway and the thing nearly took off! had to do a quick fix at a service station and thought it wasn't a bad fix....luckily the tape was silver eh?

Next post ...... carnage at UNIT 20....

I guess I should stop tempting fate by saying this as well...

Looks nice, looking forward to the next pics!

UNIT 20

So after much discussion, and thought, decided to get the engine and bodywork upgraded at UNIT 20 by the one and only Grizz.

Upto this point i have had the car for about 5 years and taken it from 65000 miles to nearly 100000 and after this time i had come to the point of either selling it and getting a B5 RS4 or keeping it and modifying the S4 to about the same level or more. . . . . tough decision as the prices of RS4's have come down sooooo much in the last few months that it seemed my dream of owning an RS4 was in sight. Also considered trading 'up' to an RS6 but didn't want to go for an automatic at present. I just loved having a saloon, and didn't reeeally want to sell up for a car that would only be a couple of years younger with approximately the same mileage, so i made the decision to go crazy on this car and therefore keep it forever!

So far i had put on some new wheels, new catback exhaust, gutted precats, H&R coilovers, and a remap at MRC and was very happy with the car with a guesstimate of about 330bhp, but numbers don't mean much its the way it drives that matters to me. After all these bits the car felt planted to the road and the remap totally changed the car for me....pulled smoothly all the way to the redline and just kept me smiling everytime i hit the loud pedal....but as it is with these cars i wanted more.....

Soooooooo the mods to be done by grizz are...

Miltek Dual exhaust turbo back rear silencer only
K04's
APR bipipe
RS4 intercoolers
JHMRS4 fuel pump and injectors (while at custom Code for remap)
RS6 Front calipers with RS4 discs, possibly RS4 B7 rear brakes
RS4 clutch
Lightened flywheel
Lightened pulleys
Shortshifter
AWE DTS
Facelift centre console conversion with armrest

All cambelt bits and pieces and other bits to keep it running smoothly etc...

AND.....the RS4 body conversion...

Managed to get some bits and pieces through ebay and ebay.de which was easy enough, loadsa doors on there, but the main problem is the rear quarters which are few and far between! ended up buying new parts which grizz sourced for me.

Also have to say a huge THANKYOU to Virdee for supplying some parts to me for a great price, will happily buy from him again, great guy, easy to talk to and knows a lot too! happy to recommend him to all of you here.

So i popped into UNIT 20 to see the car last week and here is the progress at that point...avert your eyes if you have a nervous disposition coz it ain't pretty!!

New rear quarter welded to old rear quarter

Boot lid smoothed off after getting rid of spoiler

Other rear quarter welded to old rear quarter

New door mated up to sills and rear quarter

Contined in next post.....

More pics....well there will be if the forum would let me the keep failing...will try in a minute...hold on guys!

It's going to look absolutely brilliant, well done. Can I ask why Custom Code for the map?
aposegil

nice progress.
Ash25

Hmmmm can't seem to upload anymore pics, anyone got any ideas, the ones before worked fine? the upload window tries to upload the file but then says failed?

Ash
loomx

Looks awesome!

Use something like photobucket.com thats what I use, god knows how many photos I have on there now.
Ash25

wow replies already!

sorry but it looks like something won't let me upload anymore pics at the moment, so will try later on, sorry, consider the pics so far a teaser then.....

Chose custom code as its the tuner that grizz is 'affiliated' with to be honest. Got a quote from MRC to sort out the engine upgrades, and many thanks to Lucas who worked out the quote for me but then i decided to get the bodywork done at unit 20 and it just seemed a lot easier to do it all at one place. i could have feasibly had the bits done by grizz then taken it to mrc for the remap, but then mrc would have to work out what was exactly done to apply the best map they could so it seemed better for 'one' company to sort it all out. I am sure they will do a top job.

Well the pics i had to upload were of the engine out and some more of the bodywork, but will wait till i can sort that out.

currently grizz has the engine back in and the garage is dong the rest of the bodywork. i have decided on having the RS4 avus silver instead of the original s4 silver to give it that bit more of an RS look. also going for facelift headlights to get it looking more modern as well as the centre console.

oh yeah forgot about the RS4 oil cooler on the list.

thought about a front mounted cooler but got a good price on the rs4 intercoolers so went with that instead.

Next thing to think about are the wheels and the other thread i started shows the wheel i am after but they cost a fortune so might have to settle for some spacers for my current wheels for the moment.

Hopefully get some more pics up later....cheers for the nice words guys....but grizz is doing all the work so thanks and encouragement should really go to him!

Ash
James

Will look great. What colour are you going for?
Ash25

cheers loomx, uploading to photobucket now, but what do i do then? will the pics be available to see on the forum or would they just be links that need clicking?

Hi James....going for RS4 silver

Ash
James

link doesn't work....
James

Think this would be good for the project section. Mods?
Ash25

hmmm lets see if this works

interior pics. . . good thing i didn't give the car a clean before dropping it off then!

door again

new fender

rear quarter again

whole car

engine out

There, think that should work ok . . . i hope! cheers for the tip loomx.

hope you lot enjoy the pics....bear in mind its still a work in progress so the next pics could be in a couple of weeks. will update the progress when i know whats happening.

Stilll have a few things to decide on though ....wheels...debadge or not...etc...

Ash
frazered

good stuff Ash - very cool stuff going on.  my silver saloon will be jealous!

are you going to get rid of the badge? - it is in a strange place atm
Ash25

hi matt, cheers.....think my s4 is jealous of all other cars as its naked at the moment!

not sure what to do with the badge at the moment....currently thinking of going for the new s4 style badge on top left, but am swinging to total debadge with no rings either, but i keep changing my mind....(grizzknows what i am like...i am sure i am the bane of his life at the moment with all the things i keep adding/changing...you know 'while it's in bits mate do you mind' and all that shite ... sorry martin)

Ash
Virdee

Ash great to see some progress!

Looking good by all accounts!

Glad to be of help, and hope to be of help in the future
MarkB

Looking good. Edited your earlier post to show the pictures

Scaring me for when I do mine   That's in loads of bits!
Adam

Great pics of the build there and thanks for posting. Nice choice going for Avus silver, IMHO that will look great. Are you going with the black roof as well? Please do
ScottR

You should delock your boot at the same time as well to clean up the back end.  See H8cak's thread.  I did the same a few months back.
Ash25

oooooh the threads been moved! it sure is an honour, but not quite sure it deserves to be next to such beasts like the 666bhp monster!

thanks anyway Mark, and thanks for sorting out the pics, looks much better instead of just links..Yeah i didn't think the car would look so bare and in bits when i saw it, but i don't know why i didn't expext that when you think what was needed to do the rear arches! and the engine out looked pretty cool....can't say i knew what a lot of it was though but always want to learn!

thanks for the kind words frazered....yes the badge doesn't look right there but wasn't that there as standard on the prefacelift?

Adam, i thought silver would be good, just a subtle change...but the black roof i am still mulling over....not quite sure if it would stand out a bit tooooo much. depends if i go for black wheels or not i suppose? sort of like it to look a bit discreet so a black roof might be a bit 'look at me!', especially in liverpool!

cheers virdee, yep its finally started..cheers for all your help mate, got everything in good time and order...i see you do OZ wheels....hmmm i am looking into prices for some superleggera III's but as they are quite (well ..VERY) expensive i might not go for them, so don't want to make you look at prices unless i have decided i will go for them. out of interest what sort of lead time would we be looking for them?

Hmmm not sure about delocking the boot, i think grizz might cut my balls off if i change anything else at this stage! already thinking of going for the electric folding mirrors! before searching did you smooth off the top line or replace the whole lock with the facelift version? might leave it to be honest.

what do people suggest for the rear brakes anyway? thinking of going for the B7 rears but have seen the other thread about brake pedal feel, and as the pedal already feels 'soft and does travel' before i even have the fronts done, would it make it noticably worse? maybe need a new master cylinder? do other people have different rear brake setups with no problems with the pedal feel?

Oh yeah i will prob be seeling the older bits off the car if anyones interested? stuff like the intercoolers, spoiler (though already had a bid for that), exhaust, decat pipes for s4, silver trim on dash and doors, centre console with ac control, door trigger handles in chrome as i am going for the black rs4 ones, possibly the wheels, front and rear brakes with discs, some doors, front bumper etc. bear in mind its from a prefacelift and all in unit 20 and will need collecting, but not sure what exactly is available until the car is finished, so let me know if anyones interested.

got loads more questions but need to speak to grizz at end of week to find out where its up to and then sort out what else needs doing....it seems never ending.....(sorry grizz....and thanks for putting up with me!).

Top drawer Ash, I'd love a widebody saloon.  Great choice of colour as well.  When will it be finished?

Agree with that.  It would awesome in white....
ScottR

Third vote for white!

Not only would it look amazing, but an added possible bonus... when you're storming down the motorway at 70 people infront may think the boys in blue are rapidly approaching and move over
aposegil

i have to agree i love white cars

see this kind of conversion make me think how hard would it be to put rs6 panels on mine to have that wide arch look lol
DavidT

100% support for white. It is such a in colour now but more imprtantly, it will show tha bodyshape off so well
Grim Reaper

White would of been my choice (in fact mine hopefully will as going from Ebony black to Ibis white) but then its not my car, Avus will look just as nice. The car will look so damn nice once done. I really wanted a widebody saloon myself.
Tom_S4

Fantastic project here.

Without sounding like some maxpower reader, I like the white idea but I would be tempted to go for a pearl white:

AdamS4

I would love to have mine looking like this... http://www.6speedonline.com/forums/audi/128713-b5-widebody-pics.html

i think white will be out of fashion very soon

DON'T go for white!

best to go for classic RS4 colours - much more classy!
s4woody

thats for his suspension...
viperbl

Cheers guys ...
Ash25

thanks for all the kind words guys.....can'twait for it to be finished.

should be done in a few weeks as i need to get the centre console bit done as well and the wiring could take time? grizz is on it.....cheers colin(electricracer) for having a look, i think grizz might be calling you sometime to have a look at it all maybe?

Hmmmm white you say? i do agree it does look good, but its definetly not for me ..each to their own. a white widebody would def be different and i like the fact it may fool people into thinking i am some sort of law enforcer but prefer to be a bit more mad max than 'how may i help you sir.....' pc plod
i agree with frazered so going for classic avus rs4 silver....still not sure on black roof though

why would the suspension need those orange things?

also what colour wheels do people think would look good on this beast? i am torn between the deep dish design with chrome/shiny lip...but either with black inserts or dark grey/gunmetal inserts.

Car audio

Now not to sound like some boyracer basshead ricer bling tastic maxpower reading chav but what do people have in thier rs/s cars concerning car audio?

initially i had the bose tape thingy with 6 disc changer and it went straight away...well into a cupboard....does anyone want it? i don't know if it will need a code but its all there.. any takers?

anyway currently i have some focal speakers in the rear shelf (6.5") and some 5.25" crap lanzar components in the front doors. also a mahoosive dual 12" sub box in the boot which came from my old car which is waaaaaay too big and i turn the volumje down on that thing coz its loud and deep enough to vibrate the RVMirror! the amps are bolted onto the rear of the back seats. had it fitted by some stereo guys in manchester. had some incredible alternator whine but sorted that out with using a groundloop isolator. yes i know its only a plaster but its temporary.

well now the car is getting sorted i am going to make do with this all when i get it back but then going to upgrade it to get the best SQ i can for a reasonable price.

(SORRY BUT DON'T READ NEXT BIT IF YOU ARE CRAZY ABOUT WEIGHT SAVING FOR PERFORMANCE!)

i am going to use lots of dynamat on the doors and maybe the boot as the front speakers are only mounted onto the plastic door cards and vibrate like hell and distort  very early on. getting soem mdf baffles made to fit some larger 6.5" speakers in the front stock locations and will be going for some Focal K2P component speakers. i will be keeping the rear speakers for some rear fill. the sub will be changed out (anyone want it?) to either a slimline 12" x2 in either the boot cubby holes behind the rear lights or mounted onto the back seats.

Going to go for an audison lrx6.9 amp to run the front speakers as i might go for an active 3 way setup for the front speakers with dual 6.5" cones in the doors, but it will all be made to look stock and very discreet as dont want the whole showoff my system look, just good quality sound. will keep the other 2 amps for the rear speakers and subs.

Just wondering where people think i should mount the amps, i was thinking in the floor in a false floor above the spare wheel well.

basically i would like to keep the most boot space as possible. i am also thinking about ditching the rear parcel shelf speakers and going for some 8" subs in their place and ditch the 12", but worried i won't get enough low sub sound compared to the 12" i am used to?

some pics of the stuff i will be fitting ....possibly...

JL Audio TW5 13.5" sub, but its very slim so can fit in a small box/mould and will be quite discreet i think

Focal speakers for front door K3P

Audison amp LRX6.9

Now i was just wondering what other people had in their cars and how they mounted all the stuff?

Been on talk audio and diymobileaudio for ideas but just wondered what you lot had done?

sorry if this is all a bit non-engine/car mods but the sound quality in my car is important to me.

annnnnnnd i know once the new exhaust is on i won't need the car audio system as it will prob be LOUD.....(i can see the face of my girlfriend now once she sees/hears the car when its finished)

That would probably be ohlins.

If i had the money and justification i would have ohlins. I used to have it on all my bikes and it was fantastic.

and what are ohlins then? i will google but just saw this.....

That white one looks good delocked and debadged at the back.

won't all this dynamat weigh the lady down?

reminds me I need some replacement speakers for mine, there is an aftermarket sony HU on mine which is good for mp3 but for some reason the rears are very quiet

good man not going for white - tis like the ford lemon yellow that was Max PWR favorite some years ago!

do you mean the vauxhall carlton with the 3 spoke wheels.

That silver widebody looks super Paul, great pic

That is the dogs doodah's - I like it alot - especially the black rims and I miss my sunroof looking at that one - i want ...

I got some infinity components f&r - front doors are so poor due to no bass reflex - just the foam and door void, thought about making some enclosures ...    ...... just thought - cant be arsed tbh - so let me know how the mdf goes in the fronts and sound quality pls....

yeah the doorcards are crap....really think you should dynamat it or maybe do the baffles or something coz it makes an amazing difference on these cars.

yeah the dynamat won't do anything for the weight of the car, but not toooo worried about the weight gain, putting in some saving measures elsewhere to compensate!

cheers on the vote for silver guys!

Now to work out which black wheels to get.

Wheel Sizes

Right guys, i am pretty sure on the size wheels to get but not sure on how wide i need to go. . . .basically i don't want to have any 'tramlining' effects and  it thought the wider wheels have this problem?

by tramlining i mean the car getting onto the grooves in the road made by trucks etc and the steering wobbling and all that jazz. just been driving around in a BMW 325 and it has wide wheels and i think i am feeling the tramlining effect and don't like it one bit! its either that or because its not quattro which i am used to?

either way what do people think on the wider wheels, does anyone have any problems with them?

Ash
jimbo

im running 275/30 x19 tyres and yes they do tram line but on the flipside they do look awesome.
Ash25

jimbo wrote:

jimbo are these on the bimotos coz they do look awesome! does that mean they are 9.5 wide ?

thinking of sticking with 8.5 (rs4 standard is 8.5 right?)

anyone else with tramlining issues?

Ash
Adam

I felt mine tramlined when I went to 235 tyred 19s All better now back to 18s
okkim

When I had 10" ET 10 19" wheels with 265/30 tires, I had no problems with drivability. It went straigt like train. Now I have 9.5" ET20 wheels with same tyres, and is is still very to drive.

if i didnt have the rs2 and had the correct amount of money this is what i would do.Get an S4 and make it RS4...it is the next most brutal looking RS car i have seen...keep on the good work!

cheers mate, gotta send all the good words to grizz though as he and the bodyshop are doing all the work!

seems that tramlining could be an issue, but then again some people aren't too bothered. i think if i do get new wheels then if i stick to rs4 sizes then it should be ok as i am sure everyone who owned an rs4 would have complained if they ALL tramlined on stock wheels.

anyone got any idea on the car audio side of things at all? beginning to think of keeping it simple and going passive for the front components as i think the subtleties of going high end will be lost with the new exhaust anyway!

cheers for the kind words and encouragement guys! hopefully will be popping into unit 20 either tomorrow or monday to have a look, so might have some more pics later on depending on progress.

cheers for the info...will pm musty and see what he says.

On the wheel front what do people think of HRE wheels? haven't heard much about them but they look good...anyone have any opinions on their quality?

Mainly thinking of their comp line of wheels, prob something like the comp21 on their website.

www.hrewheels.com

Ash
Virdee

Make sure you check out the prices on HRE wheels.....I've heard they are quite seriously priced!
Ash25

HRE Wheels woah! wallet busting or what! hmmmmmm have to have a good hard think if they are worth it.

still might go for the oz supers instead.....look brilliant in my opinion. will have to decide soon on new wheels or spacers with my current wheels.

anyone know if 19"wheels fit in the spare wheel well at all? i assume 19"would but just wondered. when the new brakes get fitted i assume my 18" rs6 reps will fit over them but if i get new wheels wondered if its worth getting a 5th wheel for a spare but if it doesn't fit in the well then it will have to be a call to the RAC if i get a flat. unless someone would like to buy 3 wheels while i use the 4th as a spare? no? didn't think so..

anyone not got a spare in the car or got any views on the tyre foam stuff for flats? don't really want to run the car without a spare coz i can imagine getting a flat at the worst possible time knowing my luck.

Ash
jimbo

ash just keep an 18" spare and if you get a flat on the back all well and good , get a flat on the front you will just have to swap front -back then put spare on the back. i have an spacesaver 18" spare , no idea if it fits over my front brakes.
Ash25

cheers jimbo, didn't think of that! makes a lot of sense.

thing is i asume the 18s would fit over the b7rs4 rear brake setup? or does the space saver fit over the b7 rear brakes? if so, then i would most likely put in the spacesaver instead. any ideas?

Cheers

Ash

my space saver is a 7.5x18 with 225/35 tyre

jimbo wrote:

thanks jimbo, might have to consider a spacesaver depending on what i do with the audio install. might put a small sub in the wheel well or maybe the amps. a space saver would be better as it would sit lower in the well and an amp could poss fit over it without raising the boot floor much or at all. all depends on if the amp will fit there though!

i am considering putting some subs in the rear parcel shelf so it would most likely mean that the metal in the rear shelf would need cutting to accomodate slightly bigger speakers to be situated there. i am thinking of having 2x10" subs in an infinite baffle setup which would mean that the parcel shelf would need cutting, but it would be covered to look very stealth and oem, don't want everyone to see it through the back window!

i just wanted to make sure the metal bit for the rear shelf isn't structural is it? i assumed it wasnt as there are already holes cut out for the current rear shelf speakers?

this option basically gives me a very usable boot with virtually no space taken up by the subs, and the sound will go low but not too loud so it wont be the car everyone hates with its massive boomboom! (just maybe with the exhaust note   ).

bit like this, but better, and with 2 10" subs, not just the one in the middel, and also covered so it wont look so obvious! maybe put them nearer the sides like where the rear speakers are at the moment as i am getting rid of thse ones and putting them in the rear door stock positions.

what do people think? might not bother as it might sound pants.

oh and the next post will be of a couple more pics of the car!

Ash

car pics painted

here we go, just got sent some pics that Grizz aka Martin at Unit 20 took this week.

car shell is currently primed and painted so i think the doors either have been done, or will be soon. engine has been sorted and put back in. just waiting for some bits to fit the oil cooler on but will prob need the front end off again to do that.

once its all painted then the interior bits like the centre console and that stuff can be sorted, but still a long way off till its finished...just coz i keep adding stuff!

brakes still need to be done, as well as the exhaust i think.

Just wanted to say thanks to Grizz again for all his hard work and efforts in sorting out all the engine work and bodyshop stuff, liasing with the bodyshop, sorting out all the little bits and problems that crop up when doing something like this. he has been great in organising all the work and also in doing all the engine work (cheers to his little helper LEE? as well).....the modification just keeps getting more and more complicated (well to me anyway) and thats without me adding and changing my mind on stuff. and sorry for the hassle of pushing the car around as it cant be started due to the immobiliser cutting in as all the door contacts are on the old doors!

Ash25

I think the car looks awesome already but i think i am a bit biased!

with the wheels on you can see the extra width that the new arches have, and shows that i will either need new wheels or just get spacers. might get some spacers at the moment as this project is getting costly!!

hope you all like!

Ash
James

Ash tops marks, this is looking very sweet indeed. Looking forward to seeing more pics
rik

It does look damn good.

Love the shot of the rear quarter with the rear bumper missing...shows just how fat those damn arches are

That is looking awesome!

I so miss my old car that I did this conversion on but it's nice to see someone else do this.

I would go with Avus silver as I have never seen a Saloon version in this car and this to me is the classic RS4 colour.

Yes I like alot - makes good sense if your got some wedge burning a hole

Like alot of us - we have all sunk a fair few grand in our mota's and one way of keeping it fresh.
I was never sold on the saloon b5, even now really, probably as I first owned an avant, (it was very useful)
but the wide body is really subtle as its so well blended and oem finish - I like - keep up the good posts & pics
grizz

All the other panels are getting painted tomorrow , There has been a lot of work to get all the parts sorted for the sun roof ....

cheers guys!

thanks again to grizz, sorting out all my wishes has been a bit of a ball-ache for grizz i am sure! thew sunroof has been a pain for the bodyshop as it needs a new roof etc. managed to get the sunroof for a steal off ebay and its something i always wanted in the car, and as the car was being ripped apart for the conversion now was the perfect time to do it!

some more pics grizz has sent me for you to enjoy!

I so miss my old car that I did this conversion on but it's nice to see someone else do this.

I would go with Avus silver as I have never seen a Saloon version in this car and this to me is the classic RS4 colour.

cheers docurley, so so so sorry to see what happened to your car i just couldn't believe what they did to it! have to say seeing your car on the forums got me thinking about it myself.....was a brill conversion you did. did i see somewhere you were doing another different rs4 conversion?

HAHA yeah i could, would be a bit cold though....and i like my creature comforts like doors and a roof etc........

Retro sunroof was a bit of a mad idea really, costing a lot and all that shite but its something i really regretted when i got the car in the 1st place.

Well it all started with the fact that i wanted to go for a new car around now, as i sort of said to myself that i would like to have an rs6 when i was 30 as the prices would be low enough for me to maybe afford, and i thought when i got the s4 i would keep it for 5 years then see where i was in life so to speak. well i had a couple of choices, either sell up and get an rs6 or an rs4 or keep it and mod it with the money i would have used buying the other car. after lots of thought and a thread later on rs246 (look for mod it to hell thread if anyone in same postion) on the pros and cons of modding etc i decided to keep the old girl. i just fell in love with the s4 and after already spending some cash on it i thought i might as well keep it. after doing this to it i will definetly keep it forever and not sell as obviously there is nooooooo way i wuld get any of this cash back.

didn't really see the point in selling and getting an rs4 with similar milage and similar age and then do similar things to it like exhaust, brakes, suspension on top of buying it as wll as the fact that i absolutely love the shape of the saloon!
the rs6 choics was alittle bit more exppensive at the time , but just couldnt get round to the fact its a bit bigger and automatic, so i have put off the rs6 for another 3-5 yrs as maybe a family wagon if and when i have kids.

with the bodymods and engine it would have been cheaper to buy an rs4/rs6 but then i would want to mod that as well. i love the fact that this will be a little bit more unique and definetly how i want the car without having to spend big money on a newer car. i like to have something a little different, which like most of you who are on here like to do as well, as you all are modifying your own cars and spending mucho dinero doing this......its something of an obsession in some

YES! there should be shouldn't there...he might not do as much work though? a little distracting maybe?

I can't recommend grizz highly enough, he has been awesome in his workmanship and efforts in organising all of this, he truly has, i tip my hat you sir (ummm if i had one and it was like 1880 or something).

all these thanks and praise should be going to grizz really, he sorted out the engine in double quick time, and has taken pics etc throughout!awesome service!

if anyone is around at unit 20 giv him a pat on the back from me.

yeah a bit mad isn't it!

ages ago i actually saw somewhere that someone had actually taken their roof off an old a4 and replaced it with a full glass panel with a little tint in it!! might have been an s4 but it was in the USA and can't find the pic. but it looked absolutely amazing, very oem.

just couldn't help thinking eveyone staring at you from buses though, would have to be very tinted and would feel a bit like a greenhouse? though the merc sl's have his as well as others now. still think it would be the ultimate sunroof on an s4.

unless you mean leave the roof off and go cabriolet style?

Ash, the forum won't allow you to post photos over a certain size.  If you want to show the photobucket photos (as Adam has done for you), all you need to do is put [ img ] and [ /img ] around each of the photobucket links (click 'Quote' on Adam's post to see what I mean).

Thanks for your kind works ash .
TBH It's been a real pain in the ass .... Trying to find the parts no's for all the little things ....

The guys from the body shop have been very good even if they have spend most of the day asking for more parts ," what goes where" & " how does this go in "

I said i liked a "challenge" so it's my own fault .

The good news is it's almost back together so more pics tomorrow ..

Fair play, that is some project guys

Looking good
frazered

a moon roof with the electric filaments that change direction to give you privacy and switch back at the flick of a switch to a sunroof would be awesome!

making fast progress there ash!  i bet you are gasping to drive her.  are you going to be parking her on the street again after this or do you have a garage lined up ?
rik

Has it occurred to anyone else that a carbon fibre roof would look awesome on a silver widebody?
frazered

doculry had a black roof on his B5 looked good

CF would look awesome

Grizz is the one sorting out those bodyshop guys....think he secretly likes cracking the whip which is why its going so well!

electric moonroof idea would be awesome! carbon fibre roof would be good for all those weight savers out there though! did think about a black roof briefly but thought it might stand out a bit too much....though i do like the look of the black roof on a silver car...looks 'right' to me.

definetly not parking this beauty to be on the street! unfortunately don't have a garage though, just a driveway. it was ironic though that the car was only parked on the street for a week when the driveway was getting done and some git broke the mirror and scratched it.....and dented it... so its going on the driveway from now on!

yeah when you said you liked a challenge i couldn't resist! you've done this conversion to your old car so didn't think it would be a problem...but then the sunrrof came in which has been the biggest bitch to deal with. sorry.

oh yeah cheers for the tip scottr, didn't think about it that way. will do that next time.

speaking of which, i think grizz as taken some more pics today so hopefully will get them soon so i can put them up on here!

think a lot of the bodywork is now done, most of the interior trim is in, just now sorting the centre console conversion. sunroof was an arse as it needed lots of extra bits and some lateral thinking to get it sorted....good work grizz! rear bumper, boot and sills are being painted next week then the brakes and exhaust will hopefull be on next week or thereabouts...

just need to see if i can source some oz wheels soon, if not then its prob gonna be spacers for the time being. those esp engineering ones look good?

hope to upload pics soon of the progress.
