S8 D2 pricesThis could get some groans, but here goes...
Following on from the S8 D3 prices, has anyone seen the prices of these beasts lately?
From a bargain basement pre-facelift 'basic' spec 98 model at less than £4,000 to a fully loaded Final Edition 52 plate at £11,500
A lot of barge for your money...

There was a foxy housewife near where I used to live back in '99 who had a sleek silver D2 S8 and a grey Land Rover 110.
She preferred doing the school run in the S8 despite the narrow roads and the winter conditions.

Not that nice to drive really, it's a big barge, mind you I don't know what any A/S8 is like to drive to compare it to really.
Phaeton's have lots of nice leccy touches, and the new ones have decent-ish suspension but I doubt it'd be a patch on a nice big Audi of the same value.

I have to say without doubt the best car I have owned, only sold mine as it was getting over 10 years old and couldn't improve the performance further without major modifications. Have to say the build quality was faultless and just something really really right with it. I would advise that the D2 is awesome and so over looked.
3.7ltr and only front wheel drive - couldn't get insurance for s8 as was only 19 years old at the time, but even still such a good car.

Believe me, my mate's Alpina B12 feels every bit as nimble as a smaller car, let alone an A8. I've seen speeds in that on bumpy country roads which I wouldn't even dream of in the S!

A late fully loaded one would be nice - the earlier ones feel like an older audi. Has to have all the extras though

Far out man, I'm trimming the grass of reason with my purple piglet powered rock chopper.
Hey this 60s thing is great (due to the fact that most of Penwith is still in it).
I recon the S8 is the the nearest that Audi ever got to a pimp mobile.
Could you put NOS on one?
Hmm

The 'basic' spec of the later facelift models is pretty high, including leather interior, cruise control, acoustic parking (front & rear), electric heated front sports seats, satnav plus, sunroof.
The options list was consequently pretty short, the main ones being :
BOSE sound system
CD changer
TV for satnav unit
Dipping mirrors
Memory systems (for driver's seat, etc)
Solar sunroof
Multi function steering wheel
Sun blinds
Tyre pressure monitoring
Xenon plus headlights

rare to find 2 with the same spec, late s8's also have sport button and gearbox doesnt have to be put into tiptronic to use the gearchange switches on the wheel, seen a few with electric rear seats too, theres loads of other little features on a8/s8 which make them pretty trick

Got £7000 for it. Exactly what i wanted for it

That's a fair price, and worth every penny IMHO - an awful lot of car for the money! Did it have all the toys?
|
trikezx6r

Bose, Blinds, Solar Roof, Servotronic Steering, Parktronic, Black Leather with grey alcantara inserts in the door cards, Mertyl Wood Trim, Rear entertainment with headrest screens and DVD in the boot, Probably more.. 77k miles FSH
Probably could have got a little more for it but it went to an enthusiast so i'm happy in the knowledge it'll be cared for

What would be the considered opinion on top whack for an S8 today? I'm talking for a low mileage car with reasonable spec, but not sensational on the toy front.....
Although there's a couple for sale around the £10k mark, will the market still stand for that price level for an 8 year old plus car?
|
CliveH
|
You can certainly get a low mileage reasonable spec for less than £10k - an awful lot of car for your money
|
Adrian E
|
I've seen one I like the look of - 2002, plenty of recent money spent (service in June totalling £2300!), has some nice spec although missing most of the rear seat toys like DVD screens, heated seats or recliners. Does have the blinds.
Just finding it slightly tricky to justify spending not far short of £10k on an older car than S4s I've been looking at with similar mileage which are 2 years newer and a much newer design. That's a factor on the SWMBO front!
I know it's difficult to put a price on something not terribly common these days (A8 or S8 that's not been to the moon and back) but I look at early S8s fetching under £5k with similar miles, so not sure if it's sensible to pay £10k for one irrespective of age/spec these days? I would buy the older car, but need Isofix which they don't have.
According to trade guides the part exchange value is under £6k - sounds about right when an average mileage (80k) car would be worth about £6k retail too. I'm thinking the low mileage will add a fair bit but is more than £8k a sensible price to pay unless it has every toy from the factory and the most immaculate history you've ever seen?
I really want to satisfy my V8 lust before I'm too old/sensible/skint to do so lol
