Secondhand R8?

How much can I get an R8 for? What are the early V8's going for?
s4marsh

starting at 52 -53k when i had a look last week
MarkB

Yeah, I'm thinking 60k to get a good one.

Hmm I wonder...
s4marsh

With the right spec you'll probably pay that yes.

I can see the same cars dropping another 10-15k in 2-3 yrs though.

Is the R-tronic as desirable as the ads on Pistonheads seem to say?

It's a slush box isn't it? Does it mean paddle shift?
MathiasS

Th S-Tronics are quite fast cars. I know someone with a Milltek and remap and it makes 443hp. It stand good ground against my stage III S4 ! Love the R8's but for that money hands down GTR-35 !!!
s4marsh

Isnt the r-tronic just dsg under a different name with 7 speeds, so instant changes? My choice would still be a manual gearbox though.

I wouldnt even consider a Kenwood Gtr no matter how fast they are

Do they coke up like the B7's?

I'm sure I've seen them in their high 40's Mark, not sure of the specs though. Are you seriously considering one? A handling dream by all accounts.
aka_dk

if the "R-Tronic" is DSG, then go for that as it will make it so much faster to drive

The R8 is prob going to be very kind in the depreciation stakes, much like the B7 RS 4

So I wouldnt be put off buying one ... if you can afford 60k, then the relatively mild depreciation shouldnt be an issue as a running cost

they wont drop like some Astons etc down to 40k anytime soon

I guess a key will be finding a cared for example and not some playboy's plaything !!
aka_dk

the've not gone below 50k yet

best bet is too have funds ready and keep your eyes peeled for people about to p/x or trade, as they tend to put them on pistonheads at bargain prices .... normally well to do people

was one the other week at 52.5k ... easily a 60k car on a dealer forecourt

didnt last a week

Reading a few quick reviews of the r-tronic its awful.
Its a single clutch automated manual same as the lambo e-gear which is jerky and slow to change gear.

What are they like for reliability?

Not looked at them before today so I have a fair amount of research to do!

There's an R-tronic going through Blackbushe auctions on 3rd May - May 2008 car with 17k miles (not warranted for some reason though!) in blue, was on S4HME but standard plate is LL08EZC

Volkswagen Financial Services is the seller, so I'd assume end of lease or not paying the bills.

If you have contacts with Audi I'm sure you can find out more about its history?

Guide price is 52-58k depending on condition (CAP).

They do turn up at auction reasonably regularly so you could save yourself quite a bit if you can get good info on its history before bidding.

How long you reckon before a good V8 is at the 40k mark?
grizz

It's a 6 speed manual box with a computer to control it ..Still 1500 for a clutch & flywheel ..

Plus the labour

So just like the Gallardo. Is that the S or R tronic?

Any deals to be had on new or ex-demo? V8 or V10 but must have a roof.
Maku

In late 2008, an all-new seven speed longitudinal[7][12] S tronic[12] version of the DSG transaxle went into series production (Volkswagen Group internal code: DL501, parts code prefix: 0B5),[8] led by Audi transmission design engineer Mario Schenker.
Direct-Shift Gearbox

The transmission options are either a Lamborghini sourced six-speed manual gearbox with metal gate for the shift lever, or an Audi-developed R tronic[3] gearbox - which is a semi-automatic, without a traditional clutch pedal with automatic gears shifting mode.[6][17] These options are the same as those available on the Lamborghini Gallardo. A double clutch Direct-Shift Gearbox (DSG), now badged by Audi as S tronic, is not available (as of April 2010[update]).

Not sure I was that keen on the R-tronic gearbox on the Gallardo. So there isn't a DSG option on the R8 as yet then?

Mmmm, still about 12k too expensive!
aka_dk

lets see how long it lasts

Ahh that is a shame.... if it were DSG I would get that!  Manual it is then I suppose.  Got a test drive next week... going v8 (as v10 silly money still) & can s/c the V8 and get 600ish
