She won't start!

Had the engine out for new turbos

Upon trying to start for the first time I get nothing, starter motor doesn't turn and turn or even click, nothing from the fuel pump.

All the gauges seem to work, the car locks and unlocks on the key fob just won't turn over.

The ground strap from the chassis leg to the block is connected
Grounds to the firewall from the ECU loom are connected, the spaghetti junction of plugs by the power steering reservoir is connected, the plugs behin the ecu and the ecu is connected.

A little confused why it wont turn over. Assuming it is electrical, the ecu isn't happy so wont do anything.

Look forward to your suggestions

the starter feed on these cars is completely unrelated to ECU, Immobiliser or anything else. Its just a wire, from the key to the starter.

So regardless of the ECU or any other electronics status, the car should happily wind itself over on the starter motor.

IIRC on an S4 theres a 2 pin plug near the airbox that feeds the starter and alternator. Might be worth checking that.

Ahh that's very useful, in which case I'll check the wiring to the starter then! I wonder if the energiser wire went back on the starter correctly?!

Check the plug where the starter cable goes through the bulkhead,  easy to forget to plug it back in.

Everything is connected up as it should be... The wire through the bulkhead is a purple and grey 2 pin plug, that is connected.

The energiser cable is attached to the start.

The only thing I can think of is the power to the starter. The live cable splits into two, one terminal goes to the alternator and one to the starter. I convinced myself at the time it didn't matter which went on which. Can any confirm?

Thanks
Aragorn

The cable goes to the starter, then loops from there to the alternator.

Test for 12v at the bulkhead connector on the red/black wire when the key is turned to the start position.

Double check the plugs behind the ecu.  As already mentioned,  go back to basics and check for 12v at that grey plug,  and use the engine block as your ground instead of the battery!
