speedo temporary floppiness

My speedo just went haywire for a minute or so after a few mins driving, then read zero, then after a half hour drive started working perfectly again.

Dodgy sensor somewhere?
It was pretty damp out, so possibly moisture?
Worked perfectly for 2 hours driving yesterday.

Gearbox was not affected, nor the rev counter, just the speedo and the miles-left-in-tank number in the DIS, which appears to depend on the speedo reading.

I'll VCDS it later to check for codes.

The speed sensor threw a code which it's thrown in the past so I think I might need a new one.
Could well be just water getting into the contacts.
I'll get Autohaus to check it next time around.
