This

Might actually encourage me to drive my 205 more, and get some cosmetic bits done (which will cost half / third of the price to do when (not if) the crash comes)

Once upon a time, in a village, a man appeared and announced to the villagers that he would buy monkeys for $10 each.

The villagers, seeing that there were many monkeys around, went out to the forest and started catching them. The man bought thousands at $10.

And, as supply started to diminish, the villagers stopped their effort. He further announced that he would now buy at $20 for a monkey.

This renewed the efforts of the villagers and they started catching monkeys again.

Soon the supply diminished even further and people started going back to their farms. The offer increased to $25 each, and the supply of monkeys became so small that it was an effort to even find a monkey, let alone catch it!

The man now announced that he would buy monkeys at $50! However, since he had to go to the city on some business, his assistant would now buy on behalf of him.

In the absence of the man, the assistant told the villagers. "Look at all these monkeys in the big cage that the man has collected. I will sell them to you at $35, and when the man returns from the City, you can sell them to him for $50 each."

The villagers rounded up all their savings and bought all the monkeys. They never saw the man nor his assistant again, only monkeys everywhere.....

So......£10 min to spank my monkey?

I remember seeing a green one for sale in Ireland about ten years ago for €65,000. About £40K at the time.

1000% yield in ten years. Ay carumba!

I almost bought one 20 years ago, but got put off by a Wright up in car magazine, saying they would be incredibly expensive to maintain.

There was a white one for sale at a dealers in Fernhurst about 10 years ago, I used to drive past it going to work sometimes it was up for £26k stood next to a white ford rs200 for similar money.

Epic analogy,
why do people buy a 1980/1990's car in 2016, is it just investment / nostalgia?
Noggymike

Because it brings their youth back to them in a weird way, carefree and with more attitude

and hair
Professor Peach

Nostalgia would be my reason, but I'm sure many would be investment (especially when you're talking that sort of money). The car I remember really wanting when I first learnt to drive was way out of my league. I could now get a decent example for not too much money (if I could find one in decent nick), but the cost/difficulty of maintaining and old car does scare me a little (being a spanner muppet). Oh well, perhaps one day, but I can't ever see them making big money!

Hubba Hubba!

...nope, just me then!
Stigter

I understand what you mean Professor Peach.

IMHO Nostalgia for me could only go so far.
For me the Audi B5 platform was epic because at the time 400+BHP was insane for a family car which could be acheived without having to open up the engine and it was a good package, plus in s4 form - very low key and reserved with only people in the know giving you a nod that they understand what it is.

But now the game seems to have changed. I mean £20K will buy a RS6 which with a map will be knocking 700+bhp, or Audi b8 s4 with few bolt on parts 480-500bhp.

I guess I look at it like top trumps.
