SQ5 nice concept for the family man

I like this beasty

I agree!

"The 3.0 litre BiTDI engine, the first diesel engine to be introduced to the 'S' range, delivers a powerful 313PS and 650Nm of torque. This superb performance powers the Audi SQ5 from 0 to 62mph in 5.1 seconds (top speed is electronically limited to 155mph).

A fast and smooth-shifting eight-speed tiptronic plus quattro permanent all-wheel drive with torque vectoring transfer the power of the brawny V6 diesel to the road. "

My Q5 is growing on me, and the good thing is that a DPF delete and remap  should hopefully get me somewhere up near those figures as well

Nice, but I think I prefer the rs q3 if it goes into production? Saw it in autocar a while back but not sure. 5pot
Graham

There are a few articles in the press about the 3.0 TFSI petrol engine in the SQ5 being shown at the Detroit Motor Show. Sadly not for UK or Europe.

Interestingly the power output of the engine in the SQ5 is being quoted as 349BHP.

Great write up
Thanks for posting

one has to ask how many other s / rs cars will be made across the platforms, all of them ?

they will struggle to compete against the v12 tdi they made !!!
GrantF

I guess if they think there is an opportunity to sell more cars, by expanding the portfolio, then they will design and manufacture to meet it.

Considering the Q7 with the V12 TDI was around 100k, I think we're talking a whole different market in that respect..

It's been stated that Audi will be producing the S/RS models earlier in the lifecycle of the standard model. Fair enough if you consider that, if a top-end model will sell enough to cover any development costs and be profitable, then it becomes a no-brainer.

S/RS models are no longer the halo cars they once were - that ended when they stopped the practice of only producing one RS model at a time, and the .
colicabcadam

no as in a sq7 lol !!! how will it compete against the v12 tdi lol !!!
graemep

Somehow doubt we'll see an SQ7, and even if we did it would be at a different price point.

There was a gap of at least 30-40k between the V12 and the next most expensive, so I'm sure even Audi could fit something in there..and their marketing dept will try to sell it regardless of engine..

Although back on topic the SQ5 looks a pretty good option, will be interested to see how it compares to the Macan when that arrives..

Impressive tuning results from the SQ5, almost 400bhp and 800Nm of torque

The 1 sat in Glasgow Audi has a 54334 price tag
Wtf will Audi ask for the RS Q3 then ?!!!

The Q7 sat next to is cheaper (just)!
GrantF

Must have most of the big ticket options specced on it. The SQ5  has the new bi-turbo diesel engine, which the Q7 doesn't have yet..AFAIK

Thats a serious wedge mate!

( my post should of said RS Q5 above)

That's into C6 RS6 territory and Q7 ground as well !!

Borrowed the SQ5 and RS Q3 for the weekend from Audi.
SQ5
Engine - Great Diesel Power. Instant torque no matter what the rev range. Fantastic room inside and quite comfortable no matter what the road.
But thats where it ends.
Transmission - extremely slow compared to the DSG. Suspension is great over bumps but I cant justify the 'S' badge attached.
Brakes - Sloppy sloppy and once again Sloppy!!.
Interior - Outdated feel. Has the old MMI found in the B8 A4. While this is still acceptable it's not quite up to the current models.

RS Q3
Engine - the 5 pot is amazing. Does not feel laggy and sound amazing under WOT.
Transmission - Proper DSG. Quick changes with the blip expected. I did have an issue in sports mode. Seemed to hit the limiter, cut out and then change. Best setting was drive with traction in sports mode and Dynamic setting.
Suspension - Hard to fault. Amazing around corners for the weight of this car. The S3 was struggling to keep up.
Brakes - Finally an SUV (Although Small) that stops like a real performance car. Hate to admit it but the RS Q3 brakes much better than the New S3.
So at this point you probably think the choice  is a no brainer. Well, now the bad points about the RS Q3.
Interior - Although it has the new MMI thats where the good things end. The cabin is small, there is not boot space thanks to the interior panels at the rear. We could not fit one of our large suitcases in, compared to the SQ5 where 2 cases easily fitted. Driving position??? Feels more like you're sitting in a White van than an RS. The controls are badly positioned especially the dial for all settings. There is no scribe on the dial like found in the S3. And Even though we had the performance package, the seats themselves are uncomfortable after the first hour of driving. The same package is in our S3 and we have no complaints about these seats.

So what to do.
There is a small SUV that ticks all the boxes though. Unfortunately it's not supplied by Audi.
The Porsche Macan - All the benefits of the RS Q3 for performance and handling plus one of the best interiors I have ever been in.
My only problem with the Macan is I can't have it until June 2015. That is the current waiting period.

Good review I reckon...

I have only sat in an RS q3 and I couldn't get comfy at all, I thought it was just me but turns out it isn't .
The sq5 is a nice power spec but by the looks it's not got much to back it up.

Must do better ......
Porsche have got it right then, salesmans dream car.

Just don't like waiting almost a year to get one. Hopefully not as bad in the UK
