Std S2 Avant Vs Modified Evo VIII, well well well

I've been a bit on and off with this S2 ever since I took ownership of it. I've never really felt any attachment to it like I have with most of the other cars I've had........until today.

A young lad at work has just got an Evo VIII and within 48 hours it had a de-cat and down pipe then a ECUTEK remap to take it to about 330ish bhp.

My S2 is totally standard as far as power goes, the suspension has been fettled and the bushes have all been done so it is quite tight but that's it, no power mods at all.

Well, we arranged to see the comparison between 230 and 330 BHP up the 'private runway' we have use of at Racelogic.
We sat level during the start then supposedly on the count of 3 (fingers) we would go. He went on 1 so I was already at a disadvantage.
He obviously was now a length or two ahead of me within a few seconds but then that was it, nothing else, I was never any further away than that the whole length of the two lane runway...obviously, did he back off? was there excessive traffic? (planes and things).

We rounded the end of the runway and came down the other side, again being behind I was not aware of the starting point so I had to just watch. Again he got ahead slightly then nothing, he got no further and I stuck to him right up to fifth where we were both obviously approaching silly speeds.
So does he have a duffer? I don't think so.
Is my S2 super powerful? Nope, it's not as quick as my old modded B5 S4.

To confirm his side I called when I got home...."Hello, were you giving your 'full death mode'"? It's just that you didn't seem to get very far away from me......both sides.
He said "Yeah there was a bit of traffic (planes and things)up the first side but down the other side it was full throttle"

So now I have a little more respect for the old 5 pot growler and it may stay a little longer than planned.....maybe, and my friend from work is planning yet more mods to shake off the 16 year old purple estate car which is 'apparently' for grandads!.
RubanS4

you showed him then the old (1) vs the new (0)

Nice one Mike. Show em whippersnappers what old skool power is all about

I'm still confused and shocked by it. He's going to get some stick on Monday.

They are strange old things, thinking about it I must find a national trust sticker. It was a young lad in a Subaru Imp STi that restored the faith in mine, they're just too slow, and I suspect if I'd emptied the shopping from the boot and taken the roof bars off, even slower.
Keep the faith my son (look I know we're the same age but you know!)
Bless em

ps fancy a race ?

Get a homefry on it!
Its the best 250 quid you will ever spend on an S2, it totally transforms it

A race against the RS2, ummm not a chance, but the faith is strong tonight with the S2, good lad (pat on the bonnet).
Are we the oldest on here old geezer?

The upgrade route is tempting but no firm decisions have been made as yet. If I do go down that route MRC are the only people that I'd let loose on it, I have tottal faith in their workmanship.

With 138,600 miles on it?
5potmad

yea!!! If she is in good nick i homefried mine at 145k still runs fine,
dest

138? Thats barely run in mate lol

The homefry is proven time and time and time again at rolling road days.
Yes, of course MRC could map it very well too, but for 250 quid you wont get better VFM!
All you do is post your ECU off to Paul, get it back and plug it in
He will even lend you one so your car isnt off the road while he has yours.

Mine clocked 180k this week and is running like a dream

watch for clutch slip.!! audi fitted new clutch at 2k cost before i bought car and the clutch was fine...........5pot fits "homefrie" clutch now slips trying to contain 310lb/ft
dest

My old blue S2 was running 278bhp 315lb/ft and didnt have any clutch slip atall.
A decent standard clutch shoudl easily be able to handle a homefry without ANY issues atall.
Infact, Ive never read anyone having problems on s2forum with just a homefry

If I was going to play with mine MRC would be the route.
