The longest week...

After seeing Sarge drive off with his new owner back in December, I've been on the hunt for an R8..

Found the "one" last weekend in amongst the snow and slush, in luvverly heated garage in London.

Now the longest wait til saturday when I hope (weather permitting!) to pick it up!

boy these days go slowly!! Thank goodness the weather is poop as I wouldnt really want to be out in it in this.

Its Daytona Grey Pearl / silver blades, and V8 - as I need to keep something on the wish list for next

4 (or maybe 5!) more sleeps....

Well done Nick, good choice. Look forward to seeing pics of the new motor
guymcc

Nice one fella! Looking forward to the pics!
RS_Nicks

Thanks Phil - its been an interesting and priviledged journey - never saw myself in a position to consider, let alone buy one!

Been back and forward with 911's too - was considering a gen 1 997, then gen2 with PDK - that was an amazing car, but in the end the newness of the styling and crisp handling / incredible engine of the R8 won over the 911 for me. Its been a journey - now the post-purchase-dissonance kicks in and I have to go through all my mental reasoning again - the sooner I get back in it and drive it myself, the better for everyone around me!

No doubt, the 911 would be a damn sight cheaper to run over 2 years (easy to get a warranty, 2 year service schedule, longer life tyres, etc etc) but its NEVER about the practicalities, is it!!?

Nice choice, go to say i'd choose an r8 over the 911, can't wait to see pics.
RS_Nicks

I have some pics but it would surely be like posting pics of someone elses' missus if I post before I get it..

I managed to get a great plate (IMHO) for it though - that IS mine already.

Your patience will be rewarded...

Rule 1
Moonwalker

Haha, nice one Nick. I've just bought a plate for someone else's misses too, I feel your pain. You're going to love the R8, well done.

Oh hello!
RS_Nicks

@ DK  - note to self, check colour codes EXACTLY before posting ANYTHING Audi spec up!

To be 100% accurate, it is indeed Daytona Grey Pearl / Quartz GREY blades.

My bad, I was typing in a frenzy of excitement at the time!!

..2 more sleeps...
iR8V10

Prefer the quartz to the oxygen!

Friday will be a long night...
grizz

Very nice mate , you've got to get a full milltek on that baby ..
Nudenut

Looking good Nick, welcome to the club...

As said Milltek FTW on the V8

Rasss-4

Maybe the title should say ' the longest month '
RS_Nicks

Sorry everyone!!

Been too busy doing a lap of the world and the R8 is Waaaaay more interesting to look at, drive, wash, pamper, listen to () than sitting on here talking to you lot!!

Fantastic! Great drive back from london, that Milltek is simply superb, lets out ALL the right noises, even more appreciated in the built up streets (not just by me!!)

Spent most of the rest of the weekend taking family and friends out on pax rides

Havent had many chances to take pics as I've been in it more than out, however, a few follow here.
(plate will be coming off shortly too)

Last week when I viewed it:

Just after collection:

I was looking for as late a model as I could afford, and found this one with one owner (plus VW demo for first 180 miles), just serviced, new brakes all round, new tyres and absolutely mint interior (very OCD owner didnt use the heated seats in case they dried the leather!)
Spec is:
2009 Daytona Grey Pearl / Quartz grey, V8, Manual, 27k, PZeros, black interior, Alcantara headlining (grey)
Mag ride (wasnt looking for this, but does seem good; comparable to the sports mode on the 997 at first try)
B&O sounds, iphone prep
Electric / heated seats
and more, though it hasnt got the extended leather or any c/f and it has got a couple of marks that I'll sort later but to be honest, its all about the driving - and it really is a superb bit of kit...

Despite being significantly less powerful than Sarge, the fun with the R8 is ever-present - its really involving, from the moment you turn the key and the dry-sumped engine turns over a few more times than a "normal" engine as the lubricant is pushed round til it fires into life and stays at fast idle letting you enjoy the sublime V8 tone. Then the "clackety-clunk" of the gearchange is addictive and informing, the whine of all the whirling belts inches from your ears is superb, and then as you drive it and the revs climb it's a battle to see who gives in first - its as if the engine is urging you to get to the red line all the time - ITS FANTASTIC!!

The engine is really torquey in all the gears - its more a question of what soundtrack you want than which gear is the right one!!

As you might have guessed, I LOVE IT!

I'll get some more pics up next time I get out of it....
Rasss-4

Very Nice and I cant say I blame you what with the amount of us Nob heads on here

Looks better than I imagined in the daytona.
Have you suffered face cramp yet from all the grinning...
Graham

Looks really good
Ryan_W

Looks superb! Extremely clean, it's obviously been cherished!
Jules

Very nice indeed - love the colour. Congrats and enjoy!
graemep

Looks stunning in that colour, especially in that second pic

Was severely tempted to look for one, and would have probably gone for Dave's if I didn't need a third seat..
Graze01

that is one lovely looking car - not sure its for me but very desirable

hope you get lots of enjoyment from her

congrats

Graze
AliGod78

I'll be round shortly for a PX ride
Looks amazing, the stance of these just looks great!
RS_Nicks

Thanks all for the comments - I am lucky that mostly I dont need to take pax anywhere - my littlest reckons he could squeeze behind the seats on Saturday so that I could take both boys for a spin together!!

Its not quite as mint as it looks and will be treated as soon as the weather holds out, I clayed the rear and lower door sections and it was really grimy, but it does have a helluva shine as it is.

Like I said, its lovely from the inside!!
philws4

Very very nice Nick, well done. Let me know if you take a trip up towards the Mayfield area would love a pax trip out.
Moonwalker

Nice one, Nick. I'm glad you're happy with it. Looks like you got yourself a great example.
