Warning Light.

I have had a warning light come up on the dash and I can not see it in the hand book. It says BRAKE in red and then beeps at me. Anyone got any ideas?
quattrokid

isnt the pads because thats a yellow circle with what looks like speach brackets around it...

have you checked the pads anyway? brake fluid low? brake lights working ok?
gazjen

Isn't that the handbrake release warning
quattrokid

Possibly Rich, but if its a 'red' message it could be a low hydraulic pressure issue.
i.e. the green mineral fluid level is low, or the accumulator (or possibly the hydraulic pump) is tired and in need of replacement.
My bet is on the accumulator if it's not been changed.

Either way he wants to get it looked at sharpish mate.

(suggested by the last owner of my car)

if you need an accumulator I know where to get one

Who's Rich?

Sound like I should get this looked at. I'll check the rear bulbs later

My S4(2.7) had that come up and it was the ABS ECU.

Sorry dude! Can vagcom be plugged in to your car?
TimG007

I think so but it is the older port so needs a different lead. On the way home today when I pulled away at the lights a bit quick I thought I heard a knocking from a CV Joint. This could get costly very quickly
mikeyquattro

Unless the CV failing has caused a wheel sensor to get dirty/fail maybe?

I'll try and have a look. Trouble is it's my only car at the moment so I can't have it off the road for a few days. The golf is now off the road ready to be stripped. I'll have to sort it quick or get a cheap runner so I can strip the audi.

..me. I pasted the reply from the previous owner from another forum...

Tim is the steering or brakes feeling heavier?

the brake light failure would bring up "brems licht" on the display. I have it on mine because I have a boot spoiler with a built in high brake light so as a result of a small voltage drop brings up the warning even though all lights areworking fine.

have you lost any fluids?

Check the hoses that connects to the powersteering fluid container. I had this one leaking just a little and replaced the clips with proper ones. The alarm went away.

You can test the "bomb" after you turn off the car, pump the brake pedal. It should be normal at least 10-20 times before it goes hard.

Welcome to the forum quattro20v
TimG007

YES!!!! That's worked. I had a small leek in one of the hoses. I've changed it and filled it back up and the warning has gone.

A very warm welcome to you indeed sir.
