washed my car today - it revealed something new

It was the first wash in the month that I've had it and it's looking smashing.

First person to tell me how to get it cleaner wins a trip to Coventry
I already know how - pay someone who cares to do just that

My pal turned up on his rebuilt CB1300 to add some colours other than blue sky and sandstone

I'd taken off the number plates to clean behind them properly.

When I put them back on, something magical had happened

Don't remember having an RS plate. Hmmmmmmmm

Well, did you guess (some knew/guessed)

Mike say hi to the new, real RS666.....

ScottR

Very nice and clean load lugger you have there.
mavada

Very nice
Graham

Very nice looking RS6 and a plus too.
Rasss-4

Now mike, remember some of us are here for you if you need a shoulder to cry on. Cannot beleive you let the plate go. I would have had it stuck on my coffin.

Does suit the 6 though
jasongtr

it looks epic

Doug

It has been a pleasure to hand over the iconic RS 666 to you and tbh it is back where it belongs

Keep it safe for me as I may have it back off you in due course.

Enjoy it.

Wow congratulations Doug, I didn't see this coming!!

I take it this is MD04D** which I have personally been in, owned by Marcus from 9000 miles, purchased from Alex @ Fontain.  Later owned by Amar

Wow! That is a beaut! It does look like amars with that one off interior!!

Doug, please tell me you took the time to remove all those old number plate stickies before sticking the mother of all plates on the mother of all six's!!

Then Lucas, sometimes of MRC and then me. Yup.

Ta, I had to do it.
Just hoping it doesn't get nicked! Its re-trackered now tho.

Absolute peach mate

RS666 belonged on a car like this and fair play to boggy mike for saying so
Norrs2

Stunning car, stunning plate!

What colour is this?
jockthedog

Sprint Blue is the colour. It's metallic which doesn't come across in the noddy iPhone photos.
Even to my untrained (and generally uncaring!) eye, there are lots of paint swirls which could use a good waxing.
And several paint chips which could use a touch-up.

Might even do some myself. If I get REALLY bored
This car will be treated like I treated my S4 before I started ripping it apart. Should still look the same in 10 years. That's the plan, anyway.
stuartx

Didn't know you had a 6 buddy.
Norrs2

I can see it now in the top photos.  Never seen a Sprint Blue C5 before, looks amazing!!!

Must be very rare indeed or was it an option on the Plus only?
jockthedog

Dunno Norrs, No matter what colour, these Pluses are rare - between 70 and 80 in the UK. Some of which will be scrap by now I'm sure.

I'm very proud of it. The interior is stunning - black leather with cream alcantara centers, headlining etc. Carbon with blue weave trim.

Identical to the car in the Pistonheads write up:

Stuart - Just got this recently. Something had to replace the GTR and this is what I got for the money (incl Mike's old plate )

you'll no doubt see this on the ramps at AutoHaus soon

I'll look out for it, I'll be sending mine to MRC after this rebuild, but will still be using Dave for smaller things.
tommartins

Nice man! it's looking good. you should take care of it like this.
jockthedog

Thanks Tom, that gets my vote as best first post ever

I do intend to treat this a lot better than I have my S4. Won't be any roll cages in this one!

Sprint RS Plus C5. Simply the best C5 to have

I've started spending money on the car. First service for me and I changed the gearbox oil too - 65k miles.
The entire front arms set has now been replaced too, as there was heavy wear on some bushes.

So that's my first 1.5K spent.

I also started tearing down a ZF5 auto box yesterday. There's a LOT of oil in these things (7 litres?) and most of my time was spent trying to joggle the box around on a pallet to get it all out.

Immediately found I need more tools, so I'm going to take up a retired mechanic friend's offer of his old tools so that I can get on with it. Center diff came out yesterday and the front diff will be today with luck.
C J

Did the box have problems Doug or are you doing it just as a learning curve cause you can??
jockthedog

The box was 'getting a bit clunky' is about all I know, so yes I'm really just doing this to see what's what.

Once I have this box fully rebuilt, I'll probably get it put in my own car just to to check that I know what I'm doing before I start doing boxes for other people.

Too nice a day to spend shut away in the garage but I'll get back on it soon, once I've got hold of a 17mm allan key and a longer 23mm socket - two things I needed yesterday.
Noggymike

Good work Doug, I'm sure the C5 box will keep you entertained enough!
IanH755

I'd expect burnt plates in the 1st drum (1st-2nd) which seems to be the norm, and the 2nd drum plates should be OK. I'd have a look at the Valve Body if it was clunking as this is the bit of wizardry which controls the Hyd pressure and a clunking noise is normally this or a cracked filter causing a loss of pressure.

some new legs for the old girl, as these H&Rs are crap and too low....

These are a brilliant idea.

Love the motor too - got to be the ultimate C5. Looks lush in Sprint blue.
jockthedog

gotta love that 'Bilstein Blue' nail polish
